いAdjective は何ですか。 [I adjective wa nan desu ka?] The tricky thing about these kind of adjectives are that you can't really give them an exact definition.
However, you can still classify them. Most I adjectives end in an I sound.
Examples: A-tsu-i ~ "Hot" Sa-mu-i ~ "Cold" Tsu-ma-ra-na-i ~ "Boring" Ta-no-shi-i ~ "Fun" U-ru-sa-i ~ "Noisy
In most cases, "I" adjectives end with the sound "I" (the Japanese "I"). There are only a few exceptions. Continue to next section please!

Past tense So, now that you've learned the two adjective classifications, I'm going to teach you the different forms of adjective usage.
Past tense is self explanatory. & Its pretty simple.
For "I" adjectives, you drop the "i" and add かった; "katta". Get it? SO... For "was cute", cute is かわいい; "kawaii" was cute is かわいかった; "kawaikatta". Remember that there are TWO "i"'s in "kawaii". So, its "kawaikatta". Another example is すごい; "sugoi", meaning "amazing". SO..."was amazing" would be すごかった; "sugokatta".
"Na" adjectives is a little bit easier. Just add だった; "datta". SO... きれい; "kirei" is "pretty" or "neat". "Was pretty" or "was neat" is きれいだった. Another example: ゆうめい; "yuumei" is "famous". "Was famous" is ゆうめいだった; "yuumeijanai".
Get it? For "i" its chop off the "i" and add "katta". For "na" its add "datta".
If you have ANY questions, feel free to post.
Try these:
すばらしい; subarashii ("I") - spectacular とくい; tokui ("Na") - skilled あたらしい; atarashii ("I") - new しんせつ; shinsetsu ("Na") - considerate
がんばって。 Try your best, everyone (:
