First off, I'd like to say that I am NOT genre literate. I can't tell s**t between genres. So I just want to ask you people's opinions and thoughts on it.
We all know that they consider themselves softcore, as they're a hardcore band playing pop-punk.
Mostly they are considered pop-punk. But there's something different about them that makes them not quite pop-punk. They have something more...
They're not emo. I don't claim to know what emo is, because it is one of the hardest to understand and classify in my opinion. Also in my opinion, From First To Last fits the definition of emo EXACTLY, but...they're not. (They're close, but they're not really.) Fall Out Boy is closer to emo than any other band out on the radio now, as they have hints of hardcore (which emo is a side-genre off of hardcore/punk music) but they aren't even close to hardcore anymore with the very small exception of a few random spots where there is random screaming. And it's not emo-type screaming...so...I don't know.
They're not purely pop. They could be classified pop-rock, I suppose, or just plain rock. *shrug*
I prefer to just stick with softcore and pop-punk.
Oh, and on MySpace, Adam classified them as pop-punk.
What does everyone else think, because there has been plenty of unnecessary controversy on this topic in my opinion. I just want to try to come to some sort of mutual agreement.

I'm genre illiterate too, in a severe sense. I'd just go with pop-punk, because that seems to be the most basic definition for their music that I've found.

You know, I got to thinking and...
they're just freaking pop-rock.
They don't have the same sound as many MAINSTREAM LABELED pop-punk bands like New Found Glory or Simple Plan...which are in reality power-pop, because The Ramones are real pop-punk but often just labeled punk.
So...pop-rock or softcore. 3nodding Depending on the song. xd
