I just posted this on operatorchan and was wondering what you guys thought of this: I have an interesting idea here for your entertainment tonight /k/. As you likely know, some pistols have a short rail just foreward of the trigger guard that can be used to mount a light, laser or other item. My idea was to add a foregrip to that rail to make it easier to hold a more constant aim and hopefully some extra range and control. I have never heard of this being done before, but it seems that it would work quite well in theory. If anyone has ever tried this, or knows anyone who has, please post results. I'm not so much worried about the legality of possibly turning it into a rifle since it wwould be a quick on-quick off thing. Also, an actual rifle is not an option where I am, so please don't take that road. Pic very much related so...how well do you think it would work? I am sadly still without a pistol, so I have no means to try it out. sad

Maybe if the grip was attached to part of the frame that DOES NOT MOVE, it might be cool.

That'd be an NFA regulated firearm, and require the $200 tax stamp.

Stoic Socialist That'd be an NFA regulated firearm, and require the $200 tax stamp. For some ******** reason, this is true. Also, at least on Glock rails, they tend to fall off during firing. This means you're likely to shoot yourself in the hand.

What you described would be equivalent of putting a scope on a SMG and calling it a sniper rifle. "ATF has long held that by installing a vertical fore grip on a handgun, the handgun is no longer designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand. Therefore, if individuals install a vertical fore grip on a handgun, they are “making” a firearm requiring registration with ATF’s NFA Branch. Making an unregistered “AOW” ["Any Other Weapon"--kind of the feds' catch-all term for firearms that do not fit neatly in their legal definitions of traditional firearm categories like handgun, rifle, and shotgun] is punishable by a fine and 10 years’ imprisonment. Additionally, possession of an unregistered “AOW” is also punishable by fine and 10 years’ imprisonment." http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2258930/posts

Come to think of it, I believe gangster John Dillinger invented an idea quite similar. He mounted a Thompson foregrip to (I believe) a 1911, or some kind of automatic pistol... I don't remember. It was his custom gun. And in the openings of the televisions show Guns & Ammo TV, Michael Bane fires an automatic pistol with a magazine mounted on a rail, using it as a foregrip.

That's the foregrip my brother had. Don't be fooled, it falls of with recoil. There's also a video on YouTube of a guy using one on a G18. It slips off, and he puts a bullet through his finger.
