What is Islam?

Islam is one of the many religions that have taken part in our world. In my opinion, it is also the most beautiful religion.

The true definition of the word "Islam" means "to submit to Allah", and unlike its opposing counterparts like "Christianity", "Buddhism", "Marxism" etc. it does not originate after a person. It also does not originate from a tribe, like "Judaism" or "Hinduism".
The world "Islam" in Arabic truly means to willfully submit into submission of the only worthy God for worship, who is known as "Allah"

(To those who don't know, the word "Allah" is a direct translation from arabic to english for "God" as "Al-Lah" which means "The only God".)

Anyone who decides to join Islam, is known as a Muslim.

What many need to know is that Islam is a religion built for peace, selflessness, forgiveness, kindness, and love. It is an extremely patient religion, and is made solely on the fact of education. Not the standard form of education we all know, but inner and spiritual education. It teaches us that life is a life of worship for our one and only Allah. A test to pass into an afterlife filled with bliss and joy.

Each and every single person is fully responsible for their own actions, actions that will determine their judgment on the final day.

Islam is the third and final religion brought forth by Allah, created into a series of laws to keep our world structured and peaceful. But please keep in mind that Judaism came first, then Christianity. Islam, was the final and most perfected religion that Allah decided to give us.

Unlike some other religions which claim that God entered in a covenant with a certain group of people and that this group is genetically better than all other human beings, or closer to God, Islam on the other hand teaches that no color, race, tribe, or lineage is better than any other. Islam teaches that all humans are equal in the sight of Allah and that the only thing that can distinguish them in His sight is their piety and worship.

------------------------------------
What are three levels of Islam?
1) Islam:

* Testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
* Establish the daily prayers
* Pay Zakat (Obligatory charity due the poor)
* Observe the fast of Ramadan
* Perform pilgrimage to the Ka'aba (in Makkah ) once in your life if you are able

2) Faith (Iman):

* To believe in Allah
* To believe in His angels
* To believe in His Books (Scriptures)
* To believe in His Messengers
* To believe in the Day of Judgment
* To believe in the Divine Decree (Divine fate) whether good or evil

3) Excellence/Goodness (Ihsan )

To worship Allah (God) as if you see Him, for if you can not see Him, He assuredly sees you.

---------------------------------------
What are the pillars of Islam?
Islam is built upon five major pillars. A Muslim is taught that anyone who dies observing these five basic pillars will enter heaven. As mentioned, they are:

1) To bear witness that there is no entity worthy of worship except Allah alone, and that Muhammad (pbuh) was His messenger. This establishes obedience to God Almighty alone.

2) To perform five prescribed prayers to God every day according to a specific prescribed method and at specific prescribed times. This continually reminds us to bear God in mind in all actions, either before or after any given prayer.

3) To pay two and a half percent (2.5%) of ones wealth to charity every year if their savings exceed a certain minimum level which is considered above the poverty level. (This is the basic concept, the actual calculation is a little more complex).

4) To fast the month of Ramadan (from the Islamic Lunar calendar) every year from sun rise until sunset. This involves not eating, drinking, smoking or having marital relations, from sun rise until sun set.

5) To perform a pilgrimage to Makkah (in the Arabian Peninsula) once in a Muslim's lifetime if it is financially possible and their health permits. During this period, Muslims come from all over the world to join together for six days in a prescribed set of acts of worship. All Muslim men are mandated to wear the same garment which was designed to be very plain, simple, and cheap to obtain.

**IF ANYTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE ADDED, PLEASE SEND ME A PM.**

Who is Prophet Muhammad?

Muhammad was born in the city of Mecca, and orphaned at an early age. He was brought up by his uncle Abu Talib, and worked as a merchant and a shepard. Muhammad married his first wife Khadija daughter of Khuwaylid at the age of 25. They had a very happy and beautiful marraige, and he was faithful to only her. Although, after Khadija passed, it was recommended that Muhammad marry Sawda bint Zama, a Muslim widow, or Aisha, who was at the time either six- or seven-year-old, or nine or ten-year-old daughter of Abu Bakr. Muhammad is said to have asked her to arrange for him to marry both; he married Aisha five years later. After that, (around the age of 50) Muhammad married additional wives nine of whom survived him.

Khadijah is said to have borne Muhammad four daughters (Ruqayyah bint Muhammad, Umm Kulthum bint Muhammad, Zainab bint Muhammad, Fatimah Zahra) and two sons (Abd-Allah ibn Muhammad and Qasim ibn Muhammad) who both died in childhood. All except two of his daughters, Fatimah and Zainab, died before him. Shi'a scholars contend that Fatimah was Muhammad's only daughter. Maria al-Qibtiyya bore him a son named Ibrahim ibn Muhammad, but the child died when he was two years old.

Muhammad did his own household chores and helped with housework, such as preparing food, sewing clothes and repairing shoes. Muhammad is also said to have had accustomed his wives to dialogue; he listened to their advice, and the wives debated and even argued with him.

Anyways, discontented with life in Mecca, he retreated to a cave in the surrounding mountains for meditation and reflection. According to Islamic beliefs it was here, at age 40, in the month of Ramadan, where he received his first revelation from God. Three years after this event Muhammad started preaching these revelations publicly, proclaiming that "God is One", that complete "surrender" to Him is the only way acceptable to God, and that he himself was a prophet and messenger of God, in the same vein as other Islamic prophets.

How it went about goes like this: At some point Muhammad adopted the practice of meditating alone for several weeks every year in a cave on Mount Hira near Mecca. Islamic tradition holds that during one of his visits to Mount Hira, the angel Gabriel appeared to him in the year 610 and commanded Muhammad to recite the following verses:

"Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- Taught man that which he knew not."(Qur'an 96:1-5)

According to some traditions, upon receiving his first revelations Muhammad was deeply distressed and contemplated throwing himself off the top of a mountain but the spirit moved closer and told him that he has been chosen as a messenger of God. Muhammad returned home and was consoled and reassured by his wife, Khadijah and her Christian cousin, Waraqah ibn Nawfal. Shia tradition maintains that Muhammad was neither surprised nor frightened at the appearance of Gabriel but rather welcomed him as if he had been expecting him. The initial revelation was followed by a pause of three years during which Muhammad gave himself up further to prayers and spiritual practices. When the revelations resumed he was reassured and commanded to begin preaching: "Your lord has not forsaken you nor does he hate [you]" (Qur'an 93:1-11).

According to Welch these revelations were accompanied by mysterious seizures, and the reports are unlikely to have been forged by later Muslims. Muhammad was confident that he could distinguish his own thoughts from these messages. According to the Qur'an, one of the main roles of Muhammad is to warn the unbelievers of their eschatological punishment (Qur'an 38:70, Qur'an 6:19). Sometimes the Qur'an does not explicitly refer to the Judgment day but provides examples from the history of some extinct communities and warns Muhammad's contemporaries of similar calamities (Qur'an 41:13–16). Muhammad is not only a warner to those who reject God's revelation, but also a bearer of good news for those who abandon evil, listen to the divine word and serve God. Muhammad's mission also involves preaching monotheism: The Qur'an demands Muhammad to proclaim and praise the name of his Lord and instructs him not to worship idols apart from God or associate other deities with God.

The key themes of the early Qur'anic verses included the responsibility of man towards his creator; the resurrection of dead, God's final judgment followed by vivid descriptions of the tortures in hell and pleasures in Paradise; and the signs of God in all aspects of life. Religious duties required of the believers at this time were few: belief in God, asking for forgiveness of sins, offering frequent prayers, assisting others particularly those in need, rejecting cheating and the love of wealth (considered to be significant in the commercial life of Mecca), being chaste and not to kill newborn girls.

Although Muhammad was one amongst many Prophets, he is one of the most important Prophets because he was the most profound. Also, he WAS (and IS) the chosen Prophet who had the job to publicize the greatness of Islam. The final and most structured religion that has been made to create justice, equality and rightiousness amongst the world. Muhammad (PBUH), who sits by Allah, most merciful, most bountiful. (SWT)

What is the difference between Hadith and the Qu'ran?

The Qu’ran is the chief and most holy book of the Islam faith. It is filled with revelations from God which were given to prophet Muhammad. During the revelations, Muhammad would say aloud revelation and his scribes would write down the words or memorize them.
For many years the Qu’ran was passed down orally but a short while after Muhammad’s death the separate parts were brought together by order of the caliphs Abu Bakr and Umar to form the complete collection into the Qu’ran.

It is filled with messages of encouragement, parables and stories which are written partly in prose and verse. These revelations tell the world of the one God, his teachings and impending judgment which will take place at the end of time. The words in the Qu’ran are believed to be directly from God and offer individuals salvation if they are to abide by its precepts.

The Hadith on the other hand, is a number of traditions that recount the sayings and adventures of Mohammad specifically. It's similar to the Christian gospels in that it is a third person account of the activities of the prophet Mohammad and his followers. Unlike the Qu’ran it is a number of individuals telling that which they had supposedly heard or seen of the prophet Mohammad. The traditions were passed down orally and after a number of years these reports of Mohammad’s words and deeds were then brought together and written down as a coherent collection.

**In my opinion the problem with the Hadith, is that we don't know what is true and what is false. Many fiqhs who are also known as legal philosophers (those who are the representators of Hadith), can easily misinterpret the true meaning of what it may define. This is why you must do your research and ask yourself (as in ask your heart) if what you're hearing is true along with the assisted guidance of Allah. I say this because 90% your gut never lies. Listen to it, as we have been given the gift of instict.**

The truth.

The truth. What is the truth you ask?
Well, the truth is, nowadays the religion of Islam has become a laughing stock amongst every nation. The majority of Muslim dominated countries have ridiculed and neglected to follow the real ways of what the religion is about. Yes, the originators of Islam have carelessly tossed away the rules and standards of what their structured religion is meaning to bring forth.

You see the young men and women of Islam wear their hijab, completely cover their bodies and claim to pray five times a day to be completely faithful to Allah (SWT), yet gossip about each other, and lie to their parents. They date, and have sex. Goggle and drool over each other even when barely any skin showing, blaming each other for their crude behavior. They have become violent and selfish, hateful and ignorant, never taking ownership for any wrongful action they've commited. Both genders (mainly females though) who claim to follow the religion of "Islam" have begun to change themselves by getting plastic surgery.

Is that really what a true muslim is?
To label themselves as something so holy, pure and beautiful, yet go against every TRUE meaning it is?

Just because you pray five times a day, and give a few bucks to your fellow homeless-man doesn't make you muslim.

First and foremost, contrary to popular belief, the hijab you're all thinking and have come to know, is NOT mandatory.

But read carefully, in Islam it is mandatory to cover yourself if you are a women, because it is clearly stated in the Quran: "And say to the believing women to lower their gazes, and to guard their private parts, and not to display their beauty except what is apparent of it, and to extend their head coverings to cover their bosoms, and not to display their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their womenfolk, or what their right hands rule (slaves), or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire, or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent, and not to strike their feet so as to make known what they hide of their adornments. And turn in repentance to Allah together, O you believers, in order that you are successful.” (Surat-un-Nur: 31)

So what does that mean, well lets break it piece by piece:

Quote:
to guard their private parts,

Wear what you want (pants, shirts, sweaters etc.) as long as they're covering your private parts. Any man who proposes the idea that a woman is showing her private parts that way is an idiot, and needs to get out more.

Quote:
"and not to display their beauty except what is apparent of it"

I bet you anything that means the face. Yes ladies, you're allowed to show your faces to the world.

Quote:
"and to extend their head coverings to cover their bosoms"

It means, instead of having to lie to yourself and thousands of people by tightly wrapping your hair back through the hijab (because I can bet you ANYTHING, that the majority of these women are NOT happy with what they wear), wear a hooded scarf that'll go down to cover your boobs like this:

Quote:

"and not to display their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their womenfolk, or what their right hands rule (slaves), or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire, or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent,"

Okay, so we can't display our beauty except to our husbands, our fathers, our father in-laws, our children, our husband's children, our brothers, our nephews, our fellow female gender, our servants, gay guys, and kids? That kind of sounds like the entire human population to me...
confused

Quote:
"and not to strike their feet so as to make known what they hide of their adornments"

So that means that you should NOT wear heels to direct attention towards you, but rather slippers or sneakers. Makes sense to me.

Quote:
"And turn in repentance to Allah together, O you believers, in order that you are successful."

So, basically, don't dress like a whore. Don't act like a whore having slutty intentions, and don't look like a whore.

Be faithful in Allah, with 100% genuine intentions of your prayers. Do not bullshit yourself, your society, and more importantly, do NOT bullshit Allah, because unlike humans, Allah knows what you're thinking even when you pray. In doing so, you'll succeed in this life.

Second, whoever told you the male gender is more domineering, must of been on some kind of drug, because the Qu'ran does not advocate that.

The truth is, BOTH genders should equally respect and appreciate one another. Women need to understand that even if their male counterpart are expected to tend to their needs, that does not mean you have the right to lie to him, and give him a hard time.

An example of this would go like this:

Quote:
Wife: "You're filthy. You sick pig, get out of my face! I saw how you looked at our neighbor! Don't you know how stupid she is? How could you even want to look at someone like that! Not only that, but you don't even provide for this family anymore. You're useless and I hate you!"

Husband: "Honey, I work everyday to feed you and our children, I help you with cleaning when I can, and I cook with you when you want me too. I'm sorry I looked at her, but you know how beauty is, it's appealing. What more can I do?"

Wife: "Well, in order to make me happy you must buy me gold and pamper me with whatever I want."

Husband: (To save his marraige and his reputation amongst his children and colleegues agrees) "Okay."

Believe it or not, this happens a LOT. You need to understand that when a man chooses to take care of you (which he will if you treat him right), your job is to take care of him and tend to his needs as well as he does to yours. He will take care of you when you treat him with respect and UNDERSTANDING.

Men need to understand that women are not slaves. A woman's job is not in the kitchen, nor is it to make as many babies as they want her too. Women deserve just as much personal freedom and choice as they do.

What a lot of men forget to take into cosideration is that the woman is the child bearer. She is the mother of your feelings, and emotions. She will take care of you when you treat her with respect and UNDERSTANDING. She is going to make a man and woman of your children.
