Depends on what your definition of "Easy" or "Hard" is. I don't think anything really has changed in the core issues facing children/families today. There are different factors that play into each new generation, of course but, honestly nothing has changed.
Each past generation, frets for the current, and how different times have become. I've seen it in my grandparents, and my parents. There is always going to be the ideal of "When I was your age.."., as long as Humans keep reproducing.
Kids these days are favored with better medical treatments/medication, better technological advances, better education/schooling, and so on and so forth. We're creatures that strive for being better, obtaining the "best", and to be the first and latest creatures on the Earth. These are those pluses.
Downside, there can be and has been, a break down of what society deems to be the basic family. Which is, Two parents (Male and Female), Wed to each other. Both are employed and can without a doubt tend to and care for their children. (Circa 70s). Of course, those defined lines of understanding roles and the obligation have been smeared.
So, as our children are born and brought into with world, there has to be an element of change involved. There are single parent, either divorced or never married. Gay/lesbian unions that often do include children. People whom are on welfare/state assistance, unemployment pay, sick leave...the list goes on and on.
What people don't understand is, these children today are not the offspring of the 50s, there are of today. What parents allow their young to view, learn, and understand is completely under their control. If a few non-supportive/active parents don't do this, we have our variation there. Those kids might feel like it's harder but, there have been plenty of these variations in history for eons. It's just that we're so well up to date on things due to our increase in "Right now, 24/7" information love affair.
So, do kids having easier or harder? I don't think they've got easier, or harder than the previous generation, what so ever.
