The Reborn! story revolves around a boy named Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada, who is chosen to become the Vongola Family's boss due to him being the great-great-great-great grandson of the first Vongola boss, who had moved to Japan from Italy during his time. He is told by Reborn that he will become the tenth(decimo/italian) Vongola boss. Also, the other candidates for the position of the head of the Vongola Family have died. For these reasons, Tsuna is the only remaining heir. As such, Timoteo a.k.a. "Vongola IX", the current head of the family, sends Reborn, an infant hitman from Italy, to train Tsuna. Tsuna then unwillingly undergoes training from Reborn. Reborn's main method of teaching Tsuna is the "Dying Will Bullet", which will make the person be "reborn" with a stronger self intent on fulfilling his dying will. Through his experiences, Tsuna unconsciously becomes stronger and more confident, which ultimately makes him better suited as the Vongola Family's boss despite continuing to reject his Mafia inheritance. He also starts making several friendships such as his crush Kyoko Sasagawa.

Tsuna goes through many predicaments in his progress of becoming the Vongola boss including fighting against escaped Mafia convicts posing as Kokuyo Junior High students. Later, The Varia, Vongola assassin squad, claim the right for their boss, Xanxus to be the true Vongola boss, and start a competition to decide it. To defeat the Varia, Reborn recruits most of Tsuna's schoolmates to become the Vongola guardians: Hayato Gokudera, a dynamite expert who wishes to be his right-hand man, Takeshi Yamamoto, a baseball player who thinks the Mafia is a game, Ryohei Sasagawa, the energetic captain of the school boxing club, and Kyoya Hibari, the deadly head prefect. Lambo, a weak infant assassin who came to kill Reborn, and Chrome Dokuro, a girl who has a mental and physical link with the criminal Mukuro Rokudo, joins them as well. Later, after defeating the Varia, Tsuna and his friends are transported to the future where they must face the Millefiore Family, who are annihilating the Vongola.

Tsuna is a hapless youth with low test scores and lower self esteem. His mother hires a tutor to help Tsuna out, but it comes as a surprise to the both of them when the tutor is a baby named Reborn, claiming to be from the Mafia. Reborn informs Tsuna that he's the next heir to the Vongola family mafia family and tries to help Tsuna reach the goal. Reborn possesses the Dying Will bullet, which kills a person and brings them back to life to fulfill the last regret they had, and even works to get Tsuna some henchmen to make him a true mafia boss-in-training.

Tsuna

User Image

User Image

Tsuna is a junior-high student who becomes the Vongola Family's mob-boss-in-training. The reason Tsuna was recruited is because he is the great-great-great grandson of the first Vongola boss; only ones with the Vongola bloodline are able to become it's boss. Also, the other candidates in line for the position of the head of the Vongola Family had died. Before Reborn finds Tsuna, Tsuna is known as "No Good Tsuna" (ダメツナ?) for his poor grades, bad luck, and lack of athleticism. He is normally insecure, considering himself a loser. He has a crush on a girl from his school, Kyoko Sasagawa, seeing her as the only reason to go to school.

When Reborn shoots him with the Vongola Family's Dying Will Bullet he comes back as a powerful boxer wielding berserker. However, Tsuna's friends tend to remain amazed by Tsuna's actions in such mode, causing several people to be interested in his skills. He also manages to befriend with Kyoko, which makes him very happy. Tsuna finds himself thrust into the mob life that is his future and begins to meet not only his friends and future family members but also the challenges that his new life holds.

Although Tsuna is the tenth generation Vongola boss, Tsuna is unwilling to take part in anything that has to do with the Mafia. He always denies the fact that he is a future Mafia boss and tries to avoid anyone involved with the Mafia.[4] In the Vongola Test, he states that he would rather destroy the Vongola family than accept its history of violence and cruelty. Tsuna is often surprised and horrified at Reborn's and other mafiosi's actions. Later, even though he still wants nothing to do with the Mafia, he is grateful for the friends he has made since meeting Reborn. He cares for his new 'family' and would put himself in the way of danger in order to protect them.

Abilities

When Tsuna is shot with either the Dying Will Bullet (死ぬ気弾,, shinu ki dan,?, "Deathperation Shot" in the Viz Media manga) or the Rebuke Shot (小言弾,, Kogoto Dan,?, "Criticism Shot" in the Viz Media manga), or he eats a pill composed with the same material from the later, his body limits are removed causing dying will flames to flow out freely. The Dying Will Bullet increases his powers to make a task that wanted regrets when he is shot. In the series, Tsuna also uses variations of the Dying Will Bullet that allows him to create any object or to force his strength into any part of his body. When shot by the Rebuke Bullet or eating the pill, Tsuna's body limiters are removed, allowing him to take control of his body with the Dying Will Bullet effect. This is known as "Hyper Dying Will Mode".
In Hyper Dying Will Mode he also uses the X-Gloves (イクスグローブ, ikusu guroobu?), which were created by Reborn's pet, Leon.[11] It is made out of the same material as the Dying Will Bullets and can ignite Dying Will Flames, giving Tsuna the ability to use them as thrusters to fly. Because Tsuna is part of the Vongola bloodline, he has the ability called "Hyper Intuition" granting him greater insight than most. After passing the Vongola test, the gloves are changed to X-Gloves Version Vongola Ring which can also produce a new type of explosive flame. As Tsuna is unable to control the new flame he creates a new attack called "X Burner (イクス バーナー?)" to manipulate it. It utilizes the two different flames created by his V.R. X-Gloves, but Tsuna has problems to control it until Spanner gives him special contact lens to calculate the fire amount.
During the fight between the Vongola and the Varia, Tsuna learns the Zero Point Breakthrough (零地点突破, zero chiten toppa?), a technique originally used by the 1st Vongola Boss. With this technique Tsuna can extinguish and freeze objects and flames of others. Tsuna also creates his own version of the Breakthrough called "Zero Point Breakthrough Custom" (零地点突破, zero chiten toppa kai?), which allows him to capture Dying Will Flame attacks and convert the energy to his own.In his fight against the Millefiore, Tsuna obtains the Vongola Sky Box which contains the Box Animal, Sky Lion Version Vongola, a miniature lion nicknamed "Natsu" (ナツ?). Natsu is able to petrify flames by harmonizing with them and is able to transform into weapons belonging to the first Vongola boss.

Takeshi Yamamoto

User Image

Personality

Rarely seen angry or without a smile, Yamamoto has a warm and friendly personality and stops any arguments that occurs between his comrades. is popular among his classmates and loves to play baseball to the point of attempting suicide when he is unable to play.Because of baseball, Yamamoto holds his physical health in high regard and focuses on protecting his body in battle. However, as the series progresses, he decides not to focus on protecting his body so he can protect his friends using all of his strength. He hates to lose and is ridden with guilt and regret upon defeat.

Yamamoto remains calm during life-or-death struggles. In addition, he is a rapid learner and understands a situation better than anyone. This leads Reborn to claim he is a "born hitman". However, Yamamoto is oblivious to the fact that he and his friends are mafiosi, believing that they are playing a game and that Reborn's weapons are toys. He is also optimistic to the point of naïvetè; although many of the opponents he meets during the series attempt to kill him, Yamamoto searches for a way to defeat them without mortal injury, such as using the back of his blade or not dealing a killing blow, and attempts to save his opponents as they are about to die. Even after accepting his role as Tsuna's Rain Guardian and the Vongola's swordsman, he continues to balance his life between baseball and swordsmanship, only devoting himself to swordsmanship when he needs to protect his friends.

Weapons and abilities

Due to his baseball training, Yamamoto possesses a strong body and the best reflexes of all the Vongola, giving him a natural advantage. He is able to dodge bullets shot at close-range and from a distance. Yamamoto originally uses a bat he receives from Reborn. When swung over 300 kilometres per hour (190 mph), the bat changes into a katana. After training under his father, Yamamoto receives "Shigure Kintoki" (時雨金時, Shower in Late Autumn, Golden Moment?), a shinai that changes into a katana while using the "Shigure Soen Ryu" (時雨蒼燕流, Shigure Sōen Ryu?, lit. "Shower in Late Autumn, Blue Swallow Style"). His training in the series' alternate future allows him to create an affinity between the Shigure Kintoki and his Rain Flame, something his adult self could not accomplish.Yamamoto then learns to fuse his swallow box weapon, called "Kojirō" (小次郎?) or the "Rondine di Pioggia" (Italian: Swallow of the Rain), with the Shigure Kintoki. This, along with the three short swords his Akita Inu Vongola box weapon "Jirō" (次郎?) carries on its back, creates the quadruple irregular blade "Asari Ugetsu" (朝利雨月?). The three short swords can be used for aerial combat, ranged attacks, flying or propulsion. Kojirō is also capable of creating heavy rainfall.

Yamamoto utilizes the Shigure Soen Ryu he learned from his father. Because the style will be passed on to only the worthy students, the forms are taught once and the student is expected to memorize. The students are then able to create a form in addition to those they learned, signifying the student's true worthiness to succeed the style. Because of the nature of the Shigure Soen Ryu, weaker branches deteriorate and other branches disappear because there is no worthy successor. This leads Yamamoto to believe the style is flawless and invincible. Yamamoto was taught eight forms: four defensive and four offensive. He then creates another four: two offensive, one involving his Kojirō box weapon and one that combines all the forms. He also uses Squalo's attack "Attacco di Squalo" (Italian: Attack of the Shark), which causes a moment of paralysis after a strong sword swing. When combined with a Rain Flame's attribute of tranquility, the attack causes full body paralysis.

Hayato Gokudera

History

When he was younger, he was a talented pianist. However, he soon decided to join the Mafia after his mother's death.[citation needed] His father is also reportedly a member of a Mafia family. Unfortunately, no one wanted to accept him into their family; the fact that he was an oriental half-breed lessened his chances of finding a Mafia family to take him in. To become stronger, he sought advice from Dr. Shamal, who, at the time, was working for his family. Gokudera seemed to have looked up to Shamal who taught him how to use dynamite.

He and Bianchi are actually half siblings, by their father. Gokudera's mother was a woman with whom his father had an affair. She was a very talented pianist, whom their father fell in love with at first sight. Not long after, they became involved and the woman bore a child. However, in the mafia, illegitimate children are not tolerated, and everyone was told that Gokudera was also from Bianchi's mother. His real mother was killed after driving off a cliff on her way to see her son. It slid off the road at an impossible location. It's been said that there weren't even tire marks. Suicide was considered, but she had been looking forward to that day and had even brought a present for the young Gokudera. Gokudera himself was unaware of what had happened until he was eight and fled the mansion the day following the revelation. However, it was then said that the reason Gokudera's mother slid off the cliff at an impossible place was because the accident had been deliberately caused by one of Gokudera's father's organization members.[4]In Chapter 282, however, it turned out that Gokudera's mother was already sick with a disease and it was she that turned down Gokudera's father's proposal because she knew she was going to die soon. According to Bianchi, Gokudera's mother had already died before slipping off from the cliff.

Gokudera did not decide to join the Mafia until after he found out about his mother's death, as he wanted revenge on his father because of this. He wandered about, with no family wanting him, until the Vongola finally agreed to let him join. He worked as a hitman for Vongola for several years, which is where he gained his title of Smoking Bomb.

Personality

Gokudera was born in Italy and is three-quarters Italian and one-quarter Japanese from his mother.[citation needed] His blood type is B, is 168 cm tall, weighs 54 kg. He also learned to play the piano. At school, Gokudera is adored by many of the female classmates who view him as the "rebellious badboy." However, despite his image of a rebel, Gokudera excels in his schoolwork and aces all his tests, much to the surprise of Tsuna. Still, he idolizes Tsuna greatly and considers himself to be the perfect candidate to be Tsuna's right-hand man. For this reason, Gokudera tends to regard most of Tsuna's friends as an enemy fearing they would attack him. This is most notably shown with Takeshi Yamamoto, but, along the series, he starts developing a friendly relationship with him though he tries to stay cool.

Due to a traumatic childhood experience, every time he sees the face of his older sister, Bianchi, he becomes sick, sometimes even falling unconscious. He is however immune to his sister when she happens to be wearing something that covers part of her face (mainly the eyes).

Abilities

Gokudera's is a dynamite specialist who uses it to either threaten or battle opponents. He was revealed to be able to conceal dynamite on his body. Originally, Gokudera's main weakness was the fact that it was difficult to pinpoint and calculate the exact distance between himself and his target and sync it with the amount of time it would take for the bombs to actually explode. Gokudera learned from Dr. Shamal, to use a type of Rocket Bombs. Each one, once thrown, causes the backside of the bombs to fire up and rocket towards his opponent like high-speed missiles, which then explode on impact.

In the future arc of the manga, the future Gokudera created Sistema Cambio Arma Istantaneo (lit. System Change Arms Instantaneous; Italian for Instantaneous Arms Rearrangement System), commonly called Sistema C.A.I., a system of box weapons that utilize the five different Dying Will Flames that flow within his body. Each attribute of flame has a different effect when used with the storm-attribute rockets fired with the C.A.I.; the storm attribute causes the object or person to degenerate, the rain attribute slows and weakens enemy attacks, and the lightning attribute creates a solid laser beam. His box weapons contain a number of miscellaneous accessories used in battle; one creates a lightning disc to ride atop in battle, while two others create shields to defend against enemy attacks. He also possesses a box containing a wild cat named Uri. With Sun Flames, Uri can transform into a massive leopard. He is later given the Storm Vongola Box, G. Archery, that lets him store up his energy to release in powerful shots.

Kyoya Hibari

User Image

User Image

Personality

Hibari is the leader of the Discipline Committee of Prefects, who all are delinquents loyal to Hibari. Like his subordinates, he too is a violent delinquent who uses his status to harass other students. However, he prefers to be alone and cares little for his subordinates. His catchphrase is "I'll bite you to death" (kamikorosu), which he says to everyone whom he is ready to fight. Hibari is very proud of his school, and is apparently the only person who likes their school's anthem, even using it as his ring tone.In the Kokuyo Arc, he adopted the Kokuyo assassin Birds' bird. The bird (subsequently nicknamed "Hibird" due to its connection to Hibari) becomes attached to Hibari. Hibari has a soft spot for animals such as Hibird but there have been times where he has been nice to I-Pin, though it is unknown why. Reborn piqued Hibari's curiosity early on in the series and Hibari considers him a worthy opponent, having a strong urge to fight him. After Tsuna passes the test for the inheritance of the Vongola, the Hibari of the future comments that Tsuna starts to resemble the one he knows, who excites him as much as Reborn does. In the anime version, he has the tendency to say "Wao," (like "wow" in English) whenever he's impressed or being sarcastic.

It has been noted that Hibari is exactly like the first Vongola Cloud Guardian. The first Cloud Guardian had been the head of a country's secret intelligence division, never stood alongside the Family, hardly got along with anyone, and preferred being alone. However, he and Vongola Primo had one thing in common that allowed them to work together, in that they defeated the most enemies and were benevolent to comrades.

Weapons and abilities

According to Futa's ranking list of the strongest students of Namimori Middle, Hibari is the number one strongest student in his school, a fierce and well trained fighter who has an almost insatiable bloodlust for a worthy opponent. As his main weapon, he uses a pair of tonfa. Hibari's tonfa have also been shown to have hidden compartments containing other weapons. In the future, he has a box weapon which contains another pair of tonfa which emit Dying Will Flames.

In the future, Hibari has become adept at using rings. His flame has become so intense that even without the Cloud Vongola ring, he is capable of great feats of strength. However, he shatters normal rings when he uses them. The younger Hibari is also capable of emitting a massive Dying Will flame with the Vongola Ring, though he had only recently arrived in the future. This was said to emerge when Hibari was feeling angry with others for disrupting him. It is revealed that Dino taught him how to emit the flames. Hibari has been shown to have more knowledge than most concerning the boxes and uses them at a high proficiency.

• Hedgehog - When used, a hedgehog is shot towards the target. Due to the Cloud's ability, propagation, the hedgehog can become bigger when it takes in Dying Will Flames.

• Needle Sphere Form - His hedgehog forms a huge sphere that grows larger, attacking everything within a certain radius.

• Needle Sphere Form, Reversed - He creates a big airtight space with a limited air supply where only people are allowed inside, it is used to bring about a physical fight.

• Cambio Forma - Hibari's Cambio Forma of his Vongola Box are the Alaude Handcuffs (black handcuffs with spikes all around one cuff). Although it starts out just as one, he is able to multiply them at will with his Cloud Flames. He is able to trap his opponents by multiplying the amount and sizes of the handcuffs until they become physical restraints, and then he tightens the handcuffs and chains until they squeeze his opponent to death.

Ryohei Sasagawa

User Image

User Image

Personality

Ryohei is the older brother of the Tsuna's love interest, Kyoko. He is a boxing-obsessed student who often prefers to fight his opponents head on and sees any disadvantage as a chance to improve his fighting skills. He is always hiding the truth of what he is doing from Kyoko due to an incident that happened when they were still in primary school: some high school students who did not like Ryohei used Kyoko to lure him into a trap, which resulted in the scar on his left temple. Though Kyoko feels responsible, he was not dissuaded and continued to fight.

Every time he sees Tsuna and his friends doing something strange, he gets fired up and always wants to be a part of it, though appears to be unaware that it is Mafia-related. Due to Ryohei's enthusiasm, he often rushes into things without fully evaluating the situation, which often ends in his humiliation. He can get flustered at times, however, as shown when he sees a picture of his adult self and Hana Kurokawa together in the future. He also has a short memory and forgets many important details, something his adult self solved by writing memo's. He often uses the word "extreme".

Abilities

Ryohei is an excellent boxer who possesses greater strength than the average human. His boxing training resulted in his proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, and ability to take and give a huge amount of physical punishment. Even the Dying Will Shot, which increases a person's strength by removing the body's limiters, has no effect on him since he always lives "to the extreme." His body's potential strength is exemplified during his training with the Arcobaleno Colonnello, who told him that his naturally strong muscles and his superior cells are at its best after his body is rested, thus Ryohei only uses his left fist in order to keep his right in perfect condition. Colonnello also shoots him with a spiritually condensed bullet to unlock his potential, which enables him to unleash "Maximum Cannon", a blow strong enough to break boulders.

In the future, Ryohei has greatly improved in his abilities, learning Lussuria's footwork techniques to move at great speed, and using it to upgrade his Maximum Cannon into "Maximum Ingram", which deals multiple blows. His Sun Dying Will Flame, which contains "activation" characteristics, can increase the rate of recovery in his own skin cells, and can also be used to overload other box weapons. He also carries a special box that releases a kangaroo named "Kangaryū" (漢我流, lit. "my way of honor"?), but only uses it for support since he relies on his own strength. The kangaroo generates boxing gloves that multiply his healing capabilities, and a pair of boots that grants him the ability to fly. When young Ryohei replaces his older self, he is given the Sun Vongola Box Weapon, The Knuckle of Maximum Break, which hyper activates his nerves and muscles making him much stronger and faster. However, this power is overwhelming on his body so he can only use it for three minutes.

Byakuran

User Image

Byakuran is the former boss of the Gesso Family, and the incumbent leader of the Millefiore Family whose aim is to obtain "ultimate power" by gathering the Vongola Rings, Mare Rings, and Arcobaleno pacifiers together in one place; he has a portrait that has a slot for each item. To achieve his goals, Byakuran has ordered the complete extermination of the Vongola Family, even targeting their friends and allies. He also had special radiation released into the atmosphere in order to specifically kill all Arcobaleno members. Though he possesses the Sky Mare Ring, he has purposefully hidden his true abilities, and maintains a carefree attitude, even during his fight with Mukuro Rokudo, whom he critically injures. Despite his ruthlessness toward his enemies, he has a cheerful disposition when around his subordinates, especially toward Shoichi Irie, despite knowing of the latter's betrayal. According to Irie, Byakuran's power is the ability to share thoughts and experiences with versions of himself in all possible parallel worlds, giving him a power similar to omniscience, the ability to know everything. Byakuran's realization of his abilities was brought about when a young Irie continuously time-traveled into different futures and came in contact with two versions of Byakuran. His other selves have used this ability to become the dictator of their world, with the world the story is set in being the only one where he is not. However, his power is also weakening over time, which is why he needs Uni, to replenish his abilities but in the end he is defeated and incinerated by Tsuna's flames.

Known as the "princess", Uni was originally kindhearted and warm, and in order to prevent all out war with the Gesso Family, she started negotiations with their leader Byakuran. However, the latter forcefully drugged her during their private meeting. In addition to becoming cold and emotionally detached, the drug made her unable to speak up against Byakuran, resulting in the merger of their two families. She later regains her original personality, stating that she too has the power to travel to different worlds. When Byakuran denies her request for the Six Funeral Wreaths to have a rematch with the Vongola Guardians, she withdraws from the Millefiore Family and requests for Tsuna to protect her.
