Ahnik wasn't lost exactly, you couldn't really be lost if you didn't know where you were going or care to go back where you had come from. At least, that was how he justified it. He didn't even recognize the signs that he was getting nearer and nearer a pride's lands. He should have been smarter than that, having spent the majority of his life to this point guarding his home pride's lands. But being in a bad mood, as he often was even now, took away from from your attention. Not knowing what to do didn't help him enjoy his new-found freedom. Though he was doing much better since getting some tips from the one lioness he couldn't seem to escape even when he left his home.
"Ugh," he muttered to himself, pausing in his grumpy shuffling to take a look around at where he was.

Najiyya was a small, curvy and pretty lioness whom belonged to Vizier Faiz as a part of his large harem of females. Some girls might not really like the idea of 'belonging' to a male. Some might hate the idea of being thought asd inferior. However, Naji was definitely not one of these girls. She had been born and raised here under the ideals of the pride and she was happy with her place in life.
However, despite the fact she didn't mind sharing her male with other girls. Despite the fact she was quite content with hunting for him and caring for him as well as carrying out other basic duties, she did have that rebellious streak to her. A streak that her poor sister Fae absolutely hated.
Its not that Naji usually went looking for trouble. It was more like trouble found her and she didn't turn him away. She liked a bit of excitement, liked to bend the rules just to see if she could get away with it. And, if she didn't then she'd accept the punishment dealt to her and move on. That was why she was dithering at the borders today. She just wanted to see how far out she got before her sister realised and came to hunt her down. Poor Fae, she really needed to loosen up!!
So it was that when Ahnik paused to look around, he would see her heading his way, eyes bright, ears alert, her head slightly tilted with interest.
A male!
"What are you doing way out here, Sir?" Best to be polite to a male, even if he wasn't part of the pride.

He froze when he realized someone was around, not because he was worried, just because he was surprised. She didn't seem like any obvious threat, mainly based on her size but being pretty certainly helped with that. He stayed where he was, relaxing a bit and letting her walk up to him if she was so intent on talking to him. It was then he realized he could very likely be near- or even in- a pride's lands. That would certainly explain why he was being approached.
Until she addressed him rather politely.
"Nothing," he answered not without a touch of his usual attitude, he didn't really have an answer for it, "Where is 'way out here' exactly?" He still had little idea what to say but maybe he could figure it out if he knew why she chose the words she did. If she were a guard- which seemed unlikely to him to begin with- then why was she being so polite? And if she was just another rogue.. well, why was she being so polite?

She smiled sweetly at his response, though that smile contained a little amusement at his reply. Nothing? Nothing? When was someone doing nothing, exactly? But either way, his next question seemed to sum up everything she needed to know. This male was not part of the pride, had never been part of the pride and had not even heard of them. Well, not until this day, that was.
A little voice in the back of her mind warned her that she should call for a male or just turn and leave. She had no business talking to him and she knew she could get into serious trouble for doing so. But this male seemed okay, even if he was being a bit...um...grumpy?
Either way, she fathomed it'd be worth it if she could peak his interest in the pride, right?
"Well, Sir, that's a question I can answer." She grinned, her tail flicking. "This is the Ukuucha'wafalme pride. I gather you haven't heard of us before. Perhaps most rogues haven't. I don't know. Never been out...there." She waved a paw in the direction he had come from. "Never will, either." Her hazel eyes watched him carefully as she spoke.
"If you like, I can tell you a little about this place. Who knows. If you're looking for a home, this might be just the place! I'm not sure how it works in other places, but males are well respected here."

Ahnik only scowled in response to her cheeriness, though he was relaxed and calm- clearly no threat, merely uncertain and hiding it behind a grumpy expression as he always did. He nodded when she said she could answer his question, waiting and not really reacting until she mentioned males being well respected. It certainly explained why she had been so polite to him. And it intrigued him. The way she said it implied more than just a certain bunch of them.
"Hmm," he murmured thoughtfully, "Respected how? Tell me more."
Was he even really looking for a home? Well, was he really cut out to be a rogue? Probably not so much.

Najiyya smiled, nodding. It seemed she may have captured his interest. Great! That meant she was being useful, right? Would her sister or Faiz see it that way? Well...um...think about that later. Yes. Think about it later and make sure not to tell them...just in case they don't feel she was doing a good thing by talking to him.
"Uh huh."
She settled herself more comfortably, clearly preparing herself for talking. "Okay, it's like this, see. This pride is run...a little different from others. But....where to start." She pondered on this a little. "Okay...well, here the females are regarded as...inferior. Which, if you think about it, we are. We're not as strong as males, could not win a war or do anything like that. We're here in the pride to do all we can for our male, to hunt, to serve, to bear him children if he so wishes." She dipped her head a little. "And, if we disobey or break rules, our male can punish us how he sees fit. Of course...most males here treat their females kindly, but...with a firm paw if need be. Obviously...there are the males who are more violent than others, but...lets not talk about that. It's not important here."
She continued somewhat hastily. "So, females here will respect you and we do as we are told." A wave of a paw broke up her speech. "However, whilst females can hold one of two rankings, males can take control of their status within the pride. His importance is based on his harem." Her eyes flicked up somewhat coyly. "For here it is quite accepted that a male take more than one female as his mate. The more females he has the higher he is viewed by the others."
She paused. "I'm sorry...I've never had to explain the pride's ways to anyone before. Did...any of that make sense to you, Sir?"

Najiyya did a very good job explaining the pride, or she had a very accepting audience. Or both. He stood silently as she explained, his tail swaying eagerly behind him as he listened. He thought about each thing she said but there wasn't much to think about, from the sounds of it, he rather liked it. It was a different perspective than he was used to but part of him was excited by the idea. You didn't have to be anything but male to have a certain level of status and he definitely fit that requirement.
He stayed silent for a moment after Naji finished explaining and asked if she had made any sense, which probably didn't help her think it made sense to him.
"And can anybody join?" he asked curiously, clearly personally interested now that he had heard all of this about it. Interested but almost suspicious at the same time. Perhaps he would be best to check with someone else. A female seemed unlikely to happily tell such a story, it could be a trick of some kind but.. that didn't stop him from thinking it was worth checking out. It was worth the risk.

Najiyya nodded again, eyes sparkling with delight. She'd captured his interest in the pride! Such a good thing! A shame she could never share it with the others.
"That's right, Sir. Pretty much anyone anyway." She thought he'd have no problem. He was a handsome, strong looking male with a sort of endearing demeanour to him. "Males, when the join, must have at least one female with him at the time. Other than that, the pride is pretty accepting. There is no restriction on pelt colour."
Her head tilted slightly. "But to be honest, Sir, I'm just a female. A male's world here is quite different, as I'm sure you can understand. If you join, another male would be best suited to giving you all the information you need, though us girls will be happy to help where we can."

Interesting, very interesting.
He stayed quiet again, swaying his tail thoughtfully- and then Naji seemed almost to read his mind. He would like to talk to someone else to learn more, particularly from a male. But did he need to already be ready to join to approach someone? That was almost the way it sounded. "Could I talk to someone else now?" he asked, knowing the iffy situations inviting strangers in, especially if you were of lower status but.. you'd never get new members if you didn't accommodate. Even if cautiously.

"I suppose you could." Naji replied. "I don't really know many of the males myself, none but my own, so I couldn't really recommend. They scan the borders quite a bit so it wouldn't take too long to come across one."
She pondered, flicking an ear forwards. "But it may be better for first impressions to have a girl with you?" She shook her head as if scattering the thought. "But to be honest, Sir, I don't really know what's best to do, being a female and being born here, it's not a situation I've ever come across."
She continued. "But maybe it is best to talk to someone else first, to find out if this is the kind of pride you'd like to be a part of." She paused and then cast him a sort of pleading look. "But...if you do decide to do that, you won't tell anyone you spoke to me, will you? I'm...not supposed to approach males let alone talk to them without proper introductions." She looked sheepish now.

Ahnik had his moments sometimes and this seemed to be one of them, he nodded as she explained there might be males around soon enough and that she might be in trouble for chatting with his at all. He could appreciate that, certainly. Assuming it wasn't a trick, she had been helpful anyway and so that was enough to make him agree. He could be reasonable.
"Don't worry," he said confidently, seeing no need to explain his thoughts (and not even entirely certain of them himself), "I can keep it to myself. If you'll get into trouble, you ought to move along now, then."

She broke into a smile, instantly liking this male. She adored her own pad, Faiz, but recently she had discovered there were other males in the pride that were cruel to their females. It upset her deeply, perhaps more than she realised, and to meet another potential male who seemed like a nice fellow gave her heart.
"I will do. Goodbye, Sir! Maybe we'll meet again someday." And, dipping her head, she turned and trotted off - just in time, too. For a few moments later she heard her sister's call, seeking her out.
But either way, Najiyya felt a sense in pride of what she had accomplished. Females were not good for many things, but today she had proved that she could catch the interest of another male looking for a home.

"Bye," he called after her, and then he simply stayed where he was for a moment as he considered his options. He could try to check her story out but he believed her anyway so he may as well do the more impressive thing (as the lioness had said it) and find himself someone to join with. The only problem with that was figuring out how to do it, certainly it wouldn't be easy to find someone to just agree to it.
Ultimately it was the uncertainty of the exact mechanism of creating a harem and joining the pride that would make him stick around for confirmation and more details before setting out to get started.
