User ImageToday, Shababa and her siblings were spending the day with the yana'hin. Shababa loved getting to spend time with the cub-nurses. When the cub-nurses told stories, always about the glory of demon lions, Shababa would at the head of her group and soak up every word. She also liked to ask them questions: Why are lions the perfect vessels for demons? What are the rules for participating in a duel? How deep does the volcano go and what's it like inside? Shababa wanted to know everything.

Eventually, yana'hine Shababa was talking to grew tired of her questions and suggested Shababa go play with the other cubs. Sound advice coming from an elder female. Shababa should spend more time playing with her peers. If she was going to have any power when she grew up she needed to forge alliances early.

Shababa walked around the play area, searching for a suitable playmate. Although she looked like any other cub her age she tried to carry herself with an air of importance. After all, her father was the brother of Sil'in Drathir.

Burilda was currently doing what she loved to do most; working on her tracking skills. Where it used to be she would just follow something as close as possible until she actually got to it; not it was that Buri would mark what she wanted to track and then wait a few hours before she did. Today she'd done that before her and her sister had been sent out for the day so that their father could sleep.

So she'd tagged a rabbit and had been wasting some time away waiting for the scent to get somewhat cold at least. Even though... she was sticking close to the scent; afraid with the fact that she might actually lose it and look bad as a result of it. She let out a big breath of a sigh and flopped down onto her stomach rolling onto her back looking up at the sky. Happy to have the sun on her fur and a light breeze thank gods.

But uuuuuugh it was so BORING! How could anyone stand just laying around the dens all day! She humphed and gave a bit of a grumpy look. As if that would make something better happen. She wondered if it would... She had to admit that would be pretty cool...

There were way too many boys around for Shababa's liking. She turned her nose up and them and walked away without so much as a hello. In her opinion boys and girls ought to be kept separate at all times so the boys could not offend them with their obvious stupidity. On the other hand Shababa had a great deal of respect for adult males, especially those of good breeding with plenty of battle scars to signify their honor. There was no one like that here.

Now Shababa had never seen a green lioness before, which meant Burilda caught her eye from far away. She wandered over to where Burilda was sun bathing. Approaching her from the front, she looked down into the green eyes of this rather unique cub. "Hey, what are you doing?"

Her words sounded almost like a demand. Shababa hated being left out of the know. Besides she felt she was entitled to whatever she wanted, including information.

O_o;; Were the gods listening to her thoughts? Hadn't she just wished for something to happen? She waited a moment before replying looking up at the other female cub. "What does it look like I'm doing?" She yawned having acquired her mothers knack of never knowing who was from what family or who held what position. "I'm laying in the sun." she added after a second of thought and rolled onto her stomach looking at the girl.

Burilda was closer to her juve stage now so she was a bit bigger compared to this girl in front of her and could easily look her in the eyes. "I like those marking on your back..." she told her offhandedly. She really did; she had a pretty blue coloring; kind of like her sister; but definitely not as pretty a design as her sister had.

She lifted herself up so that she was sitting up and looked a bit more like she wasn't just lazing around or something like that."My names Burilda; by the way." She figured it was best to learn the names of her peers now; after all; these were the lions she'd be spending her life with; might as well make friends now... even if she'd never done it yet... "What's your name?" She asked motioning her head at her.

Being a moron? Shababa thought with a smirk. What a lazy thing to do, lying in the sun when she could be playing and making friends. Shababa glanced at the stripes on her back and smiled proudly. "Thank you for noticing. They come from my grandmother's side of the family."

If Burilda couldn't figure it out on her own, she would wait until later. There was no point in revealing the identity of her grandparents right away. "My name is Shababa. I've never seen anyone with green markings before, and so pretty too. Is your family new in the pride?"

"My dad isn't; his mom was the first seer of the pride." Burilda explained; stretching out her body and yawning. Not that she thought it mattered really; she didn't see much of her grandmother anyways. But her father had always assured her that she was a very important lioness. "My mom's the new one though~ But she doesn't have green stripes; she has gold ones. So I geuss green is just a bit farther back in my family or something." She shrugged. She didn't really know of any family on her mothers side. Then again the green might have come from her real father... but he wasn't as important as Xiang was; so it didn't matter. Not really.

"So like..." She started off; not really knowing what to say; most of the lions she talked to were all adults; and they were always usually more concerned with getting her back to her den than making friends with her. "What are you doing right now?" She seemed pretty cool; maybe she'd ask her to come tracking with her.

((Just a little background XD Buri's 'dad' is Xiang one of the pale lions that isn't a slave; and her Mother is Yaretzi... IDK just thought I'd throw it out there XD))

If Shababa knew Bauri's father was the pale demon she would have curled her lip in disgust. The words set off a bomb of contradiction in her mind, despite the white stripes she carried. She did not consider her pale markings significant. Baur's father on the other hand looked as though he should be a slave. She respected his right to be a member of the pride, because of his numerous scars, but she didn't think he would ever be as much of a demon as her father. At best, Xiang was a lower form of demon.

Shababa shrugged indifferently. "I don't know. Just looking for fun I guess. Do you have any ideas? Other than lying in the sun, I mean."

"I was gonna go work on my tracking skills." Burilda was immensely proud of her skills as a tracker at such a young age. Sure they weren't finely honed, but considering how old she was; they were pretty good.

"Wanna come? I was gonna track this rabbit that I'd tagged. I'll let you kill it! You can even lick up its blood if you want? It's pretty cool! You get this rush when you catch it! and you feel like you're floating; it's super cool."

She moved a bit; walking a few steps before looking over her shoulder at Shababa. Wanting her to come along and trying to make the offer seem as appealing as possible.

Shababa's face lit up in a wicked grin. She absolutely relished killing little animals; the way their bulging eyes went bright with fear the moment her claws slashed their bellies made her shiver with joy. Before she killed them, she would often hold them under her paws, using the weight of her body to pin them down, so that she could feel them wriggling and listen to their tiny cries for mercy. It was so amusing.

"Of course I do!" she beamed, as if that should have been obvious. She trotted after Burilda with a spring in her step. "Tell me how you tagged it. Did you slash it on the side so that it bleeds when it moves?" She was eager to find out.

((Happy early birthday you crone <3 ))

Burilda laughed excitedly nodding her head; her tail twitching back and forth happy to have someone as excited about catching something as she was. "OH MAN! Of course that's how I tagged it!! 8D That's how my mom tags things when she's feeling lazy~ And that's how I've been taught to tag things I want to find later!" She announced proudly; swiping her paw in the air. "Those stupid bunnies never know what hit 'em!"

She giggled happily. She liked talking about hunting and and tracking. Not for the thrill of seeing something die; or watching how it acts as her claws press down on their neck; but for the sheer thrill of the hunt. Of running and jumping and pushing herself to be just as fast as the thing she's trying to get.

So what if Burilda wasn't the one to kill it? She'd be the one to find it at least.

Listening to Burilda, Shababa's fur stood on end. She imagined the hare, three long claw marks slashed across its hind-leg, plodding along halfheartedly, wincing as each new step sent a bolt of pain through its injured leg, leaving little pools of blood in its tired foot prints. Shababa licked her lips and smiled. In another pride, the gleam in her eyes would have been considered disturbing for a cub.

Eager to show off her own knowledge, Shababa unsheathed her claws and mimed striking a prey animal. "Did you know if you cut the tendons in its leg, it will hardly be able to walk at all? Tendons are the things that connect muscles to bone. If you cut one, the muscles won't work anymore and the animal will have to hop around on three legs. I tried it on a mouse once. It was really funny!"
