All right people, it's time to start getting down the nitty-gritty of Japanese. And that means verbs.

We are going to start out with a few verbs in formal present tense.

tabemasu - to eat

nomimasu - to drink

arukimasu - to walk

shinimasu - to die

mimasu - to watch/look

kikimasu - to listen/hear

hanashimasu - to speak

You may notice that allof these verbs end in "-masu".

Now, suppose we want to make this a negative verb? Change -masu to -masen.

Ex. Tabemasen - does not eat.

If we want to make it past tense, change -masu to -mashita

Ex. Tabemashita - ate

And if we want it negative past tense, it becomes -masen deshita

Ex. Tabemasen deshita - did not eat.

If you want to do something, it becomes -tai.

Ex. Tabetai - want to eat.

Does everyone understand? Verbs are a crucial part of any language. Fire off a question or comment if you need to!

Close. Japanese sentences always go - SUBJECT, OBJECT, VERB.

You are the subject (watashi)
Cheesecake is the delicious object (chiisukeeki)
`Want to eat` is the verb.

So your correct sentence would be:

Watashi wa chiisukeeki wo tabetai desu.

I just noticed, many are using it but i've never seen it before so thats why i'm asking. is it correct to add "desu" when saying 'rame wo tabetai" ?

I researched it and found that both way are correct, but when you use "desu" it is considered more polite.
