~Introduction~

Sabin

Wind Serpents - Wind serpents have features in common with both Kalona and Kirin - which is a rather counterintuitive combination. They are adept at flight, and have a sinuous movement in the air that speaks of a snake-like nature. Most of them are not evil, but prefer the taste of meat. They have long fang-like canines and can open their jaws quite wide. Some of them have a mild toxin in their fangs that can lock up the muscles of prey animals. It has only a very mild affect on creatures as large as soquili.

Zo has claimed a territory for herself in the mountains. Now she is looking for members to join her herd. She spread word far and wide of a new wind serpent herd being gathered. Meet at a certain small circular clearing in the mountains. The interview would be held there.

The herd resides in the forested mountains. Several large fields are included in their territory and a large river flows almost through the center. The river is of significant size and can pose a hazard to young foals. The trees while large are spaced well apart which allows for flying in the forest. The lower branches are usually large enough to make excellent perches.

They make their homes in caves situated in several cliff faces at the northern edge of their territory. Materials from the local area are used to build nests. Well above the range of any ground bound or gliding soquili, is no less than five entrances into a large warren of caves. The entrances are large enough for landing while a guard keeps watchful eyes on the immediate vicinity. All five entrances lead thus into a large cave. Daily activities, such as socializing and feeding, are done here.

Branching off from the main cavern are tunnels that end in a multitude of smaller caves. These are excellent for mated pairs who are expecting or have young. The Alpha’s and Protector’s quarters are directly at the back of the cavern. Along the right side of the main cavern is a trio of caves. One is twice the size of the other two. The two will be used as birthing chambers and the largest is for foal daycare.

Individual caves are scattered over the cliff face around the warren’s main entrances. Bachelors and bachelorettes may house in these individual caves. These caves do not attach to the warren.

~Herd Practices~

By tradition the Alpha and Protector must be wind serpents and female. They are the core of the herd and must remain pure.

Started by strong females, an Amazonian life style has developed. Females rule the roost here and are self-sufficient in almost every way. When it comes to foals fillies are much preferred to colts.

When a female is ready to mate, she will leave the herd and go out in search of a mate. It is her choice just to mate with him or bring him back to the herd. Females may have more than one male mate they champion.

All winged offspring are expected to remain with the herd. The mate may not 'hang around' then make off with a foal when it emerges from the basket. Any non-winged offspring of the herd are encouraged to leave when they reach adulthood. Colts born to the herd are allowed to stay.

The champion status simply allows a mate to stick around for future breedings/see offspring. Mates(championed) may join the herd after a probationary period of 6 months.

As the herd rises in strength territory boundaries will be fiercely protected. Trespassers may be attacked, taken hostage, or worse. If you can get a wind serpent to champion you, you will be allowed on the lands unmolested.

Championing a non-winged mate is severely frowned upon. May result in expulsion from the herd.

**If your soq cannot abide by any of these, then do not apply!
**When breeding, please check with the other owner that they can abide by these. Their foal will be expected to remain with the herd.
**I do realize a soq may not be suited to this herd even though born here. If that happens, once they reach adulthood they can choose to leave. (I do expect this to be a rare case.)

These soquili have been championed by a member of the wind serpent herd, thus earning them the acceptance to be there. These are Not actual herd members; merely soquili allowed to pass through the lands unmolested. These include mates for the first six months after joining and friends of the herd.

Hosting the proposed list of herd name choices here. Since I doubt we all want to be called W. Serpents forever. You can submit your own choice or second someone elses. A poll to choose the top pick will be held held when enough names have been gathered.

~Ehecatl (Nahuatl name meaning "wind serpent.") Herd (Wyntre)
~Chrysopelea (genus of flying-gliding snakes...) Herd (Wyntre)
~Ventus (latin for Wind) Herd (Wyntre)
~Aello (means whirlwind - one of Hippolyte's Amazons. From the Greek) Herd (Wyntre)

There will be at least one reward, maybe more depending upon members and number of names.
