I know this is quite random curiosity, but I was just wondering... Why are you a furry?
PostPosted: Fri Jun 04, 2010 7:16 am
I was raised furry way back wen in the 80's when there was no Internets and it was all about behavior and mental characteristics that matched up to a certain animal. Back when it was mostly quite clinical.

I don't remember exactly, but I somehow got into werewolves in art and stories. At some point, I discovered some furries and the art and such they had. Pretty much just ballooned from there.

So it started out as curiosity and interest in art and fiction ins something related, but later evolved into a furry art/fiction hobby. Not surprisingly, porn followed suite not long after discovering furries. I was at the ..."right age" for it anyway. xp

when i was younger i had an enormous fixation on animals and animal behavior, i wanted to be some form of a zoologist through out most of my life. once i kinda came of age this stuff dropped from my mind i got into art and fiction writing and the internet. I started hanging out on Second life eventually running into a small furry community there and more or less as a joke i chose a goat as my fursona. Eventually i apparently found myself back to my old hobbies looking up the life and behavior of goats and sheep, and even invested alot of time and effort into studying literature that uses sheep and goats as motifs in their writing. fables and biblical metaphores and such. I kind of fell in love with sheep, switched to the Altai Argali as my species. and just have been writing poems, short stories, and creating art to honor my animal. I even have a tattoo of an altai argali ram on my back ^_^ its uber cool.

Why? Well, for the most part for the art. Drawing anthro art is something I've enjoyed since I was very little, before I even knew there was a name for it. I've always enjoyed cartoons and stories with animal characters, and still do for that matter.

Actually, come to think of it, I believe the AFG was the first furry-specific community I'd joined after finding out about the fandom. Man, that goes waaaay back. sweatdrop

Anyhoo, one thing led to another, and I went on to discover more of the fandom and the various activities and interests centered on it.

I love animals, and I think they are incredibly fun to draw. That's about it! smile When the community isn't being all "Hey, let's shove some bizarre-a** porn in your face," then I enjoy the community, too. In my experience, they tend to be very open and genuine, and I like to be around people who keep those qualities. They also tend to remember how to play, which is a skill a lot of adults forget.

I do have a deep connection to a certain animal, but that animal is not my fursona. My habits in that area lean loosely towards the shamanistic way of thinking, where I look up the characteristics of the creature as a kind of guiding role model (a coyote, in my case.) My personality doesn't match his well enough for him to be my fursona, though. I make a much better quietly eccentric housecat with a weird floating fish that follows her everywhere. :>

Well, I've just sorta always liked animals and anthro characters, I guess. (And my mom apparently always acted like a cat when she was little, so it seems furriness runs in my family a bit...) Always found them more interesting than humans, and also more attractive in various senses of the word.

Then I randomly happened across a furry porn site whilst searching for, well, porn. And thus I found out that the furry fandom existed. Spent most of my time just lurking, but have been trying to get more active the past couple years.

So yeah.

for me, being a furry is about a sense of family. every fur i have hung out with have become close friends and they become an extended family.

Ive met thousands of furries from around the world, and each one has become a huuuge part of my life. Furries hold a very close spot in my heart. I finally scraped up enough money to get the tattoo I designed. Its on the left side of my chest. and the symbol in the middle means fox.

Im new to this whole 'furry thing' so i don't really know how to answer.
Ive always loved animals, even though i was never really brought up to. Fairly recently i got into the arty side of it, began drawing animals, discovered the cosplaying side, and it just kind of went from there.
My brain switches off on nearly everything if animals arent involved.
