Azar was feeling relaxed for the first time in a long time. His name was cleared of murder. Vlam looked like he was going to pull through and he and Ursa were on speaking terms for the first time in a loooong time. It felt good not to have to be on edge all the time, wondering what was going to come and smack him in the face the moment he stepped out of his den.
So, he was making the most of it.
He was lying half-out of the entrance of his den, chin set out across his crossed fore-paws. He was practically fully grown now, his mane filling out nicely. Soon he'd be a fully-fledged guard and he'd take responsibility for his actions.
Responsibility? Well...that wasn't so great, but either way, he'd not be a kid any more and no one could look down at him. Life was certainly looking up...anyway.
And the only complication?
Well...the cubs that Ursa carried...and that was a pretty big complication in Azar's mind.
--
Uuo had insisted that if the pregnant female was going to birth away from the rest of the pride that she take at least two others along to stand watch. Yin-li had cubs to see to of her own, and between them Uuo was the much larger lioness and the better fighter. She had actual experience in battles and not just sparring (Even if it was far more intense sparring than what one might find in other prides.). As it was, however, Kenna, Ursa's aunt, had come along too. She was staying back with Ursa while Uuo went to get Azar. She rushed to his den with an urgency she rarely showed, but even now she was still calm. "Azar'bijan!" Because there was more than one Azar in the pride, blast it, and she wasn't about to go about mixing the two up, no time to waste honestly. By the time they got back to the spot it was possible that Ursa would be well into labor.

He was dozing by the time Uuo arrived, his eyes closed, his breathing deep and slow. He was going to enjoy this nap, the sun against his face and shoulders. There were no cubs about, squealing and making a noise. There was no loud-mouth Regent kids shouting at him and making him feel bad.
Peace and quiet.
"Azar'bijan!"
He startled so suddenly that he practically leapt up onto his paws, forelegs extended to brace himself against whoever it was who was going to attack him. What had he done now?! He was just sleeping, dammit!!!
Oh, wait, hang on a sec, it was...Uuo? Looking for him? With a short smile, he moved away from his den and out to meet her, roaring out to let her know that he had heard and he was waiting to hear what she wanted. Maybe this wasn't about him after all. Perhaps another disaster had befallen the pride.
There was never a quiet moment in the Firekin, was there?
--
Uuo was glad when he responded, it saved her the trouble of having to track his scent all over the god damned rock cliff that served as the pride's denning area. She followed the sound of his roar straight to his den, seeming as little as out of breath as possible for the distance of her run and the extra fur she delt with in the diminishing heat. "You! With me. Let's go, Ursa is asking for you. The cubs are coming."
She'd compliment him on his preparedness in sleep later.

He blinked, tilting his head curiously as she came storming towards him. There was no doubt about it. Something had happened. Something on the borders? Had someone attacked a Guard? Perhaps one had gone missing without a trace? It was nice, really, that she would think to come to him with such a trouble and not to someone else.
Not that he could blame her really, he was - after all - a pretty damn good guard. The best, even!!
So, yeah, if you could read Azar's mind right then, you'd realise why Uuo's news shocked him so.
"Me? What!? Now?!" He stuttered, eyes wide, suddenly looking panicked. "But...but..." He wanted to roar out his frustration. Why?! Why now when he finally had some peace and quiet!? Damn, damn, DAMN!!
"Uhh...okay, lead the way."
Ursa was asking for him? He supposed he ought to feel touched about that. It proved, at least, that their friendship was certainly on track.
--
"..." Uuo just stared and raised the semblance of an eyebrow that she, as a lion, had. Were she a telepath, would probably have also whacked him on the head for daydreaming. As it was she just turned back the way she'd come, leading him away from the dens and into the dunes. "This way. You'd best stay on Kenna's and Ursa's good side. I imagine she doesn't need much provocation right now to knock you off your paws, and it's only on Ursa's request that you're even getting near."

His head and ears drooped and, feeling like a scolded cub, trotted after her. Wait...hadn't he just been thinking about how amazing it was to be all grown up? He supposed that a teacher would always have the power to make one feel young...
Even still...at least he had a beautiful female to escort him to...to...his possible new life as a father.
Ugh.....
"Why does she want me there, Uuo? I mean...I'm not going to be any use to her."
