Today was proving more difficult than expected. Even Nikonkoni admitted that it had been a challenge, though one she was more than able to rise to. Prey had gone…somehow… a bit scarce. It didn’t happen often, and it wasn’t something to be troubled over. Someone had suggested rogues as the source of the problem, others a potential storm. Whatever the reason, the regular hunting groups hadn’t brought back quite enough food. Oh, sure, there would have been enough for the huntresses. But those Abholi had to eat first, for all that they seemed to lay about and do nothing. Perhaps she’d harass Kouga into patrolling or something, at least then one of them would be being moderately useful. So far her hunt for the best male had been woefully unfruitful. But just look at what she had to work with! Sure they had some potential, but she’d yet to see enough to help her choose!
The dark furred lioness growled softly under her breath, the sound muffled by the zebra she’d managed to track down. It had been alone, oddly enough, but prey was prey. With this addition to the day’s catch, surely there would then be enough for the hard working to get their fill as well. She’d not been assigned to hunt again, but she was still hungry. And willing to share with her pride sisters…and the Abholi if they could possibly eat anything more. Rules were rules after all.
But first she’d need to drag this back. Her mouth was watering at the scent and taste, but she didn’t dare eat. She was too strong, too good, to break the code after all. She wouldn’t steal from her own pride, not even when it was her skill that brought the beast down. Still, it was harder to move a kill back from near the borders alone than it had been to kill the thing! But she’d manage. She was, after all, the very best.

The scent had drawn a stranger close, a hungry one. Kongwe was hidden in his mortal form, though he was still larger than a typical male lion. Stalking through the dry grasses, he had made a beeline for the scent of blood and death in hopes of finding a meal. A free meal. In his time as a God, he'd taken it upon himself to steal from the large cats of the savannah much more frequently than he had bothered trying to catch something for himself. It was easier that way; he wasn't too proud to chase a lion from a carcass and take it for himself.
The large lion licked his lips as his gaze settled on Nikonkoni in the distance, dragging her kill along the ground with a bit of difficulty. Boldly he approached her, though alert and ready to jump back should the lioness launch herself at him as he drew near.
"Looks like you're having trouble, there..." Kongwe said from a few feet alongside her, "I'd be more than willing to lighten that load for you." Or, take it entirely, more like.

Hot orange eyes flickered to the stranger, her own nose too filled with the scent of her kill to have caught his as he approached. She bristled instantly, this near the borders she wasn't surprised to find a rogue about. But he surely had to have noticed the scent markers, there were five abholi around. Somewhere. Obviously not here, where they would have had to do their jobs. Honestly.
"I got it," Nikonkoni growled, giving the carcass a good yank and pretending to ignore the newcomer. He might be big, but she was tougher than she looked, and she looked tough. Plenty of muscle from all her practice and training and hunting and competing with that Si... "You're trespassing," she added, just in case he hadn't realized. Males were often stupid it seemed. And with that, she sank her fangs more deeply into the ripped throat of the beast and resumed the difficult task of dragging it off.
