The young adult was lying sprawled on her back in the dappled shade of a beautiful old tree which, despite being at an odd angle from the quake, was living on quite beautifully.
"Can you see it, Ngeu?!" The female, named Jahina, asked, casting her eyes sideways to where the vulture was trying - with some difficulty - to peer into her mouth.
"It's really starting to hurt now!"
"Well maybe if you stopped moving about, I'd be able to see!" Ngeu insisted, reaching out both wings to keep Jahina's jaws parted long enough for her to peer inside.
It took a moment for the vulture to spot the splint of bone stuck between the feline's teeth and she shook her head, tutting noisily.
"Ohhhh dear. Oh deary me!"
"Ish ee baaaah?" Jahina tried to ask, her words difficult to form since the vulture still had her jaws prised open.
"It's not good." The vulture replied, finally releasing Jahina's jaws and hopping back a few steps. "Plus, you have really bad breath." She waved a wing in front of her beak and then laughed her usual, cackling laugh.
"Don't worry, it'll come out sooner or later. You'll live."
"But I want it gone, now!" Jah insisted, pulling herself back up into a hunched sitting position. A paw immediately went up to press against the side of her jaw.
"Owwwww..."

The vulture clacked her beak in surprise at the appearance of the lioness and her bonded - a rather striking vulture indeed with her white, gold and dark-streaked feathers. Ngeu was always pleased to see one of her own kind and flapped her wings, bobbing her head in an amicable fashion.
"Hello!" She waved a wing in Jahina's direction, stepping aside as the brown and white lioness pulled herself miserably up onto her paws.
"No, no, not really. She's just being a cub, is all. A sore tooth. It'll pass."
"That's alright for you to say." Jahina grumbled. "You don't even have teeth!" She gave the vulture a nudge and then looked up to see the newcomers properly for the first time since they had appeared. Jahina wasn't usually so grumpy, but toothache didn't make her want to smile much.
And this lioness before her - pretty but...not exactly happy looking - was a new one indeed. She didn't have a familiar face at all. Perhaps she had joined after the quake, then? Come here by accident? Or maybe she'd been born here afterwards? Even still, would she not have recognised her patterning? She gave a little shrug, oblivious to the events that had led up to this one's birth.
"I'm Jahina and this is Ngeu. We've just recently found our way back to the lands with some others." She smiled. "Nice to meet you!" And, though it hurt to smile, it was awfully difficult not to in the face of a possible new friend. "Have you been here long, yourselves?"

"Ouch!" Waza sympathized as she hopped closer. "Teeth are funny things like that. I am glad to not have any. Could we try to pull it out?" Though she had never tried her hand at such dentistry it seemed like a good idea. Out with that bad, in with the good and all of that. If she needed to, she could always get her bonded to sit on the other lioness to keep her still. Surely that would work.
Cautiously, Naamini made her way closer to Jahina, trying to look nonchalant as she did so. It was hard to know if any of these newcomers would be affable, especially when faced with a lioness as sombre as this one. If the smile was anything to go by, however, this one was nice. She reminded Naamini of her brother in a way.
"I am Waza, and this is Naamini. She was born here," the vulture piped up, knowing that her bonded would be delayed in responding. "Just after the earthquake too, nasty business. But let's do something about this tooth."
