I donated blood today

AND I STILL COULDN'T DO IT
(I don't know if anyone will remember that September last year I tried to donate blood and they told me my veins were too thin)
I got three-quarters through the donation and my blood clotted in the needle.
I got really cold too.
And my friend said I was acting weird and woozy so he made me let him drive.
(Which was a good idea in the end since I was really out of it, he said it was worrying)
I kept touching his neck with my hands since they were freezing.

Apparently I'm the clotting master while my friend has superveins.
We hung out today and made sure we drank tons of water so when they stuck in needle in him blood sprayed all over his shirt and the chair.


So how are you guys?
Do you donate blood?
Maybe you're afraid of needles.

My arm looks pretty nasty since they kept moving the needle around to see if they could keep the blood flowing.
I've got this lovely bruise.
Even though I've failed twice I'm just determined to donate now.
So in September we're going to go, you can donate every three months, and I'm going to start drinking water the day before.

Oh, wow, some bad luck.
I can't donate blood, cause I'm at high risk of diabetes. All the meds I'm taking make it a bad idea anyway. I would if I could, though.

Needles kinda bug me when it comes near the face area. But in the arm? No prob, so long as I don't look straight at it. Which is good, cause I have to get bloodwork a lot.

It sucks
I want to know my blood type and donating blood is such an easy thing to do so I want to do it.
But I apparently have terrible luck with it.

That sucks though

I think it's silly that some people just refuse to donate.

I wouldn't want a needle near my face but I was totally fine with them sticking it in my arm.
It wasn't pleasant but it was cool.
It hurt when they started moving it around inside my arm.

Bloodwork just sucks
The needles for blood are kind of fat and being stuck with one every three months isn't bad but having to get it done often would be obnoxious.
I'm sorry.

Nah, it's fine. It doesn't really bug me that much.
Because I've lost my insurance, though, it's been a while since I've last had bloodwork anyway. Without insurance, I'd have to pay about... 200 per session. crying

I do think its... unnerving to say the least... to have a needle so close to the face... *shudders* Reading Firestarter didn't help me either!!!

I donate but im afraid of needels. We have a blood drive at school every year.

Oh no, that sucks Black.
Medical stuff is so expensive without insurance.
I never read Firestarter but to have someone coming at my face with a needle doesn't sound like fun.
EVER.


We have a blood drive at my school every year too.
I meant to donate this year but I missed the sign-up date.
I heard a bunch of people passed out at it though.

Fear of needles seems to be a pretty common thing so I figure
"Hey, I'm pretty healthy and I'm not terrified of needles. I should donate!"
I can imagine having blood drawn would really suck if you were afraid of needles though.

I just figure that donating blood is a good thing to do since it's always needed and it doesn't cost anything.
Often you get free things in return.
Such as movie tickets or discounts to restaurants.
(Sometimes you even get to look like a heroin addict because your arm bruises up!)

I've donated 3 times I think. Only once did I get dizzy but overall I enjoy the experience.

I am also fascinated with watching my blood for some reason....

That's awesome, Moon!
I didn't get dizzy but I got mega-cold and I was acting kind of funny.

Blood looks really dark when you donate for some reason.
(Maybe because they take from a vein rather than an artery do it's not all oxygenated)

For some reason that reminded me, after I started the donation I looked at my friend who'd already finished and went,
"Hey, Danny. THIS WAS INSIDE ME."
And pointed at the blood.
He looked both amused and slightly grossed out.

You are brave! 3nodding I think people who donate blood are very brave, generous souls. . .mostly because I have bad a needle phobia. ninja I know that both of my sisters have had blood drawn: one was donating blood and the other needed it done for medical reasons.

I know that so many people are afraid of needles that I figure if I'm not and I'm healthy, I should donate.

wow thats sounds nasty. I want to donate blood in a years time but im kinda of put iof i think ill just open my veins bydrinking loads of water like you did. but nice of you to donate blood.

I actually donated again last Thursday. This time I donated double the amount.
