Life in the swamps was rather peaceful. Food was pleantiful, water thought rather brakish was easy to find, and their borders were closed to the outside world, in short it was a peaceful paradise...and SO boring!!
Vesyana heaved a sigh as she flopped down on her stomach glaring after her mother's tail. Crossing her eyes, she stuck out her tounge grumbling faintly. Spirits! They never let her have any fun. Really, it wasn't like she was going really hurt anyone with her trap!
Flann loved his life in the swamps, he wasn't bored he was comfortable. As a cub who was born after the tragedies that plauged their home he had no knowledge of what had happened. He had a large family, many litter mates and quite a few half siblings that were quite a bt older then him, though at the time he wasn't aware that some of them weren't siblings at all not that that would bother him at all.
As he lay lazily upside own hon his back, just on the other side of his mother's tale he saw his sister stick out her tounge. He grumbled slightly and flipped over on his feet. Why was she sticking her tounge out at him? He hadn't done anything! "Hey!" he said a demanding tone in his voice.
"Oh shut up momma's boy," she grumbled flicking the tip of her tail with irrtation. Why were most of her siblings so disguestingly good? True she had heard tales of one older brother, the one that still hadn't come home, who was prone to tricks but the rest of them were as goodie good as their mother. Not that she didn't adore her mother, but frankly she wondered how she could even be related to such a good woman.
"Pft" was all Flann managed to get out. He wasn't a mother's boy, he wasn't even remotely a mother's boy, he loved his mother a great deal and wouldn't do anything to make her upset but at the same time he wasn't nearly as quiet and timid as some of his siblings tended to be. The cub was unlike his sister though quite content.
"I am just as daring as you Vesy" he replied to her, "I can prove it to you!" The cub wasn't sure what he was going to do to prove it but it was a challenge now. He growled a little and actually stood up on all fours. "Whats the challenge?" he asked.
"Actually having a life maybe?" She shot back at him with a sniff then sighed shaking her head. "Don't you ever get bored here? I mean all we are allowed to do is play around the den. Mom freaks when she can't see us. Dad spazzes if one of us even trips. When is the last time you can ever remeber even stubbing a toe without one of them going into full fledge panic?"
Flann sighed, he had to admit his sister was right, it was hard for him to say it though he didn't want to upset either of his parents. "I well I, I can't say that I have a good answer to that." he giggled a little. He had remembered tripping coming out of the den when he was just a tiny tiny cub and it was true both parent's were all over him in a heart beat. He just chalked it up to his parents loving him a lot.
"Well...." he began eyeing his mom lightly wondering if she was listening or paying more attention to some of the ther cubs, "MAYBE we can slip away?" he said slowly. He didn't know where he would go if him and Vesy got away but he was willing to find out.
Ves scoffs, " Yeah right. I tried that once remeber?" She sighed bitterly looking away. In their father's panic he had called out the whole pride and she had been scolded by evey adult, even perfect strangers
Flann couldn't help but giggle he did only vaguely remember that there was an insident with his sister and her getting in a great deal of trouble. He didn't understand why his sister was so angry, but perhaps that was what difference between the two of them. Ves didn't like being confined where as it was a mild irratation to Flann but he managed to find something else to entertain himself without putting the whole family and pride into a state of chaos.
"Come on Ves, we can find something to do. There is lots around our den we could play and have games." Flann was starting to get fustrated with his sister, she was just driven to be negative in his opinion, maybe that was why the sprits weren't as good ot her as they were to him.
"I don't want to play around the den! I want to go see the world! Its out there just waiting and here we are stuck like helpless newborns!" She growled, jumping to her feet to pace. "I want adventure! I want change. Gods I would just like for ONCE to see something different and new. "
Flann frowned, he was not pleased with his sister’s defeated attitude. “Well with that attitude you will never find something fun to do.” He told her. He had gotten good and scolding, he was proud to be the one who was the most mature in the litter. He was always trying his best to make mother happy, to make father smile, and to keep his siblings in line.
All Flann could think of to get away to get away from the den was, the chance of visiting momma’s friend Semira. Her den wasn’t really any different than the den that they lived in but it would be a chance to get outta her. He could ask momma she would probably agree if he asked real nice. “Well we could go visit Semira.” He hadn’t gotten use to Semira’s new name, nor was he sure of how to pronounce it, he sat waiting for Ves’ answer.

"yeah no." She sighed, "Flann this place is killing me. When we go out...I ain't never coming back. I am gonna go see the world, find my place in it." Her violet eyes, so like her mothers, lit up with the dreams of excitement and strange new places.
She sighed then, "I know you don't understand Flann, but this isn't the life for me." She hopped down from her perch to start sludging through the thick mud, "I don't know where it is, or where I will end up..but I know it isn't gonna be here." She didn't wait for her brother to answer, instead she headed off into the swamps.
