Applying for a Breeding
- If you're ready for your SoA to have cubs/pups, post in a colorist's breeding thread. All the breeding threads can be found in the Customs/Breeding subforum. Make sure the colorist's breeding thread is Open before you do so, and please post using their specific form found on the front page of their thread or your breeding will be ignored. Also: Linking to your pet's uncerts is always a good idea - many marking details are lost in the certs!
About the 'pride' section: For cubs to be born into a pride, their mother must already have (or be eligible for) the pridal cert. This is extremely important if you are trying to breed in a pride with lineart. If you do not yet have the pride cert, but you already have the joining RP, you may post the joining RP as proof. Only then can the cubs be born into a pride or born on a pride's unique lineart. Please note that some prides require both mother AND father be part of the pride before you may breed. Some prides also require that you ask permission from the owners before applying for a breeding. Make sure you know all the rules of a pride before you apply for a breeding, they can be found in their subforum.
You must post a log (or links to threads in the guild) of at least five complete roleplays done by each parent who is breeding. If this is not a rogue breeding (a breeding that has an NPC father) then at least one of these roleplays must be between the two characters, so we at least know they've met ICly.
- - All regular breeding rps must be at LEAST 10 posts long (5 per character) and 1000 words minimum.
- All self-rps submitted for breeding must be 1000 words minimum, but can be in any style you choose (post, story, mix, etc)
- If you have an RP (regular OR self-rp) that is finished but under 1000 words/10 posts, you can combine it with others to meet this requirement. For example, if you have one rp that is 800 words, and another that is 500 words, you may post both rps to count as one single rp.
- All RPs started and completed before this thread was posted are to be judged at the discretion of the colorist.
There are no longer Breeding fees when breeding SoA!
Each time you breed your SoA, you need entirely new roleplays. You can't use any roleplay(s) from the breeding before.
As an incentive for roleplaying, anyone who sends in ten roleplays for each parent will be getting an extra cub in addition to the one(s) rolled.
Rolls will be done either in the Staff subforum or within the Colorists' breeding thread.
Special Terms
- Throwbacks: If you say yes, there's a possibility you'll get throwbacks to an actual SoA somewhere in the cub's heritage. This means that the colors and markings of your litter will not only look like the parents, but they could be taken from any blood relation you link with the form. Please post all images that you can/want of your SoA's ancestors. Saying yes does not guarantee a throwback and a colorist will never use throwbacks to an unlinked relative. At no time will an SoA look exactly like his/her ancestor; this is only possible through customs, and you must get permission from both the colorist and ancestor's owner to do this. An offspring may look very similar, but it must have enough differences to make it unique. Eligible throwbacks are: Parents, siblings by the same two parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts by the same grandparents, great grandparents, etc. Ineligible throwback includes: Any throwback that contributes genes from an unrelated SoA, including but not limited to: half-siblings, cousins, half-uncles/aunts, nephews/nieces, etc.
Randoms: If you say yes to randoms, the colorist has the option of throwing in markings/colors/traits that may not appear in the lineage. This is often used to saturate or desaturate existing colors within the lineage to help colorists with designs. Although some colorists prefer to make randoms similar to existing colors or markings, please remember that this option does give them the right to design something completely random. They could throw a lime green cub into an all natural litter if they so wished. Also, please note that in a rogue breeding (a breeding with a rogue/NPC father) you are automatically giving the colorist the right to use randoms - they get to choose what the father of the cubs will look like. You may not ask for a specific random, these are up to the colorists - not you.
Customs: Each litter now comes with two automatic custom slots; you still pay full price of a cub custom to do this. You may only get one custom every month this way (if you get one in January, you need to wait until February to custom another cub through a breeding slot). Custom slots obtained via normal means do not count against these slots, nor do pet trades. This option only remains open for 24 hours after you receive the litter - you must post in the colorist's thread to claim the custom slots before this time is up . In lieu of a custom, you may also pay 450mil to keep one of the cubs already in the litter if you've kept a max of four cubs from that SoA before, but this will count against the two custom slots. Many colorist prefer payment in pure gold and will not accept items - so make sure you know their individual rules beforehand. (For hybrid customs, please see the hybrid breeding section of this post.) Customs cubs cannot be completely random, and need to keep with the colors/designs of the family they are created for.
Getting the Cubs
- Both of the parents' owners will be pmed the litter when it arrives, so make sure your PMs are not friends only. When you get the information gathered, have one of the parents' owners post in the colorist's certing thread found in this subforum. Required information includes the cubs' names, owners, current and future ranks if they are in a pride, and any extra information required by some prides. After this you are free to say the cubs are born and may do a birthing rp if you so wish, though they are not required.
If you own an SoA, and you breed him/her, you may keep four cubs total over the span of their life. If you breed two of your own SoA together and keep a cub, this cub will count towards both SoA. However, you may custom cubs from your SoA as many times as you like provided you can obtain and pay for the slots.
You may not sell any of the cubs/pups, nor do pet trades for them. You may give them away to friends or newbies or hold a free contest for them. If, for whatever reason, you only wanted X number of cubs for a plot, you may pretend that a cub died at birth - please inform the colorist of this so that they don't continue growing him/her. If those options don't appeal to you, you may always give the cubs/pups back to the shop (please inform the colorist of this) and we'll run a free event for them within the thread itself. Please remember that it will still be related to your SoA and you might have to interact with whoever wins.
Related information
- Gods and mortals can mix and have offspring. The children of such a pairing will always be mortal, but will have seer abilities. It is your choice how strong or weak these powers are.
Females must wait for their current litters to grow to adolescent before they can breed again. They're busy taking care of their babies, they can't have more!
You may not roleplay a female as pregnant until the couple has landed a breeding slot.
Males can breed at any time with multiple females if you so choose. But you still need five different RPs every time you breed!
If you have a female and you don't have any male to breed her to, you can say that she mated with a random rogue. In this case, you'll get a surprise with the color and patterns of the offspring (since the father is unknown). However, you can only have 1/2 of the total number of cubs/pups available to the mother's species. For example, a normal lion-lioness pairing can have up to six cubs maximum, but if that lioness bred with a rogue, she could only have up to three cubs maximum.
Adolescents can breed and have offspring, but since they've not reached maturity, they can only have 1/2 the maximum number of offspring for their species. If an adolescent female has also mated with a random rogue, she can only have 1/4 the maximum number of offspring for their species.
There are instances where you can pick between new lineart and old lineart. Please refer to our lineart guide, located here to see which lines these are and their differences. Each colorist will have a set of lines they will automatically default to use unless the parents of the couple specify. Check the specific breeder threads for this information!
You may also convert from old rogue to new rogue lines (and vice versa) on the last stage of the SoA's growth by notifying your colorist prior to them growing to adult but all SoA in breedings must grow on the same lineart until the adult stage.
Hybrid Breeding
- Hybrids are available! Leopard x lion, lion x cheetah, and cheetah x leopard crosses are all possible. These cubs have a 1/10 chance of being fertile; the rest will be sterile and may not produce any offspring.
Fertile hybrids have half-sized litters; cheetons have 1 - 2 cubs, leopons have 1 - 3 cubs, and leotahs have 1 - 2 cubs. In case of conflicting hybrid litter sizes, the roll will be determined by the mother's species.
The following show all possible combinations of hybrids and other species: 1. Cheeton x Cheetah, 2. Cheeton x Cheeton, 3. Cheeton x Leopard, 4. Cheeton x Lion, 5. Leopon x Cheetah, 6. Leopon x Cheeton, 7. Leopon x Leopard, 8. Leopon x Leopon, 9. Leopon x Leotah, 10. Leopon x Lion, 11. Leotah x Cheetah, 12. Leotah x Cheeton, 13. Leotah x Leopard, 14. Leotah x Leotah, 15. Leotah x Lion
Hybrid Customs: You can custom hybrids into litters (this is the ONLY time you may custom hybrids; you still cannot get them from regular custom slots). However, there is only one custom slot per hybrid litter. If you take a hybrid custom slot, you may not get a custom slot in any other litters for three months (it takes up your slot for the month you get the custom in, plus the next two months). Like all other hybrids in the litter, it runs an equal chance of being fertile/infertile (which means that it's most likely going to be infertile). (In litters where it is possible to custom a full-blooded regular species from a hybrid parent, there are two slots available if AND ONLY if both customs are full-blooded regular species.)
Edited breedings
- Only colorists that have an edits permit may do these - if you wish for your SoA to pass down their edits, you must wait for one of these colorists to open up a slot. Right now, the colorists able to do edited breedings are Safaia and Cajanic.
The list of SoA that can pass down edits is located here. If your SoA is not listed here, they will not be able to pass on their edits. There's three types of SoA that pass down edits; those that always pass them down (all their offspring will have some type of edits), those that only have a chance to pass them down (these have a 1 in 3 chance to pass down edits, determined by dice roll), and those that only pass down at the colorist's discretion (this means edits passing or not is entirely up to the colorist).
The chances of passing down edits will diminish down the lineage/generations. The children of SoA that pass down edits 100% of the time will have a 1 in 3 chance of passing edits, and the children of those SoA will not be able to pass down edits at all. Children of edited SoA who pass at the discretion of the colorist will not pass edits at all either.
There are different categories of edits; expression, item, hair, etc. Breeding an SoA with a ">8/" expression edit will produce children with expression edits, but not necessarily the same one the parent has. The same idea applies to the other categories.
You can now custom into an edited litter. However, customing into these litters comes with restrictions. The only ways to do this are by buying one of the offspring from the litter, or by asking the colorist to make you a random cub (you have no say in how it will look at all). If the parents have a chance to pass down edits, the custom will also have to be rolled to see if it will get edits. Your custom is not guaranteed edits unless it comes from a parent in the 100% edit passing category.
