Well, I attempted to ask this of my family and friends on the infamous Facebook, but it turns out I don't have competent contacts.

User Image

Now, what that caption at the bottom says is, more then likely true. I, however have to goals in life, only one of which I can accomplish. One of them is to make a career drawing comics and graphic novels and the like. The other is making that picture's caption false. The pros, when I reenlist, I get a $50,000 bonus, and if I reenlist indefinitely, meaning I can't get out of the Army until my twenty years are up, I can get a $120,000 bonus, possibly tax free. The cons, family time will be hard and I will possibly not make it past 40 years old.

My question is this, dear fluffy fluffer faces! Should I attempt a job that they make video games and movies after, or should I attempt a job that entertains the masses?

Does any other Fluffy fluffer face out there have a problem similar to this in the way of careers and such?

Comics and the such is a longer process to get started and more difficult to become famous and bank as much as someone from the military. Most comic artists and writers aren't that well off to begin with, and some have been working for several years before becoming a name.
Military on the other hand is quick and dirty money. It's difficult physically and emotionally, but time won't be an issue.

My career plan is just emotionally draining. Psychology. xd HA. I need to see one. .___.

I'm just sayin'... Having no say so with what you believe is morally correct and what your beliefs are don't really matter to the military. *shrug* but what do I know, I'm just a civilian.

Well if you re-enlist I will miss you greatly my dear. However you shouldn't let that sway you. I bet your family said something along the lines of "whatever makes you happy" right? Well there's truth to that saying but it makes it annoying when you are happy with both of your options.

There are pros and cons to each choice you have in front of you. Ultimately it will have to be YOU who decides. No one can decide for you love. That's life for you, filled with decisions we make based on knowledge, experience, with some influence from others but ultimately it's us who make the choice. We can't say something like gambling until you're broke is your parent's fault because they gambled. Sure it's probably harder to not gamble given what you were raised around but it's not impossible.

Or what if parents did the best they could do, raise you to make wise decisions yet you go off and do your own thing. Viva la hard knocks life or perhaps you end up doing well. Like I've been saying it's YOU who makes the choices/decisions in life.

@DM- Well, I was always going to reenlist so I could work in a hospital and learn more before I attempted to become a Spec Forces medic. But you are right, the choice will ultimately be mine as to this career choice. I just wanted some feedback on what people thought of either idea.

@Mongoose- Oh no, you're quite right, civilian or not. It's just that when we enlist we raise our right hand and say we will do anything asked of us, within American or host nation law. That means we voluntarily give up our right to say no. It's really our own fault, if we have any gripes.

Whatever we say, the decision still lies within j00.

maybe you should start on one and get a feel for it, and then if it doesn't work out, you can do the other :0

Call me selfish, but I'd rather have you stick around longer than til you're 40.

Comics is a good way to do that.

But every decision has their pros and cons and like everyone else is saying, it is ultimately up to you.

@Kiston- I'm not jewish! =O

@Debi- Problem is, I enjoy both pretty much the same. lol Though I suppose I could do the try one and switch thing. I don't know, I've still got a year before I'm confident I'm physically ready for the selection process.

@Tibble- Yeah, living until I'm 40 definitely is a pro, but I'm also factoring in the quality of life against the length of it.

Okay so, which choice do you feel you'd have a greater quality of life?

Don't feel ashamed Shift'ika about feeling that the military path would give you a greater quality of life.

You know what they say, "Always go with your first choice." I know it's mostly a saying that's used for tests. I believe you to be very mature for at least weighing your options instead of jumping in head first.

Is there a con to re-enlisting but not indefinitely right away? Will you not get the 120000 bonus if you decide to only go for however long a non-indefinitely re-enlistment would last?
