The night seemed to fall early that day, though the sun lingered just above the horizon line, giving the earth an eerie red-orange glow. Koin sat, musing over the tinted red land with amusement. It had been a long time since he accidentally stumbled across the lands with the wind’s guidance. It had been a long time since his young master had grown into a wonderful adult. His master had children – little young masters and mistresses that he could now watch over with all his abilities.

He didn’t want to see them grow into harsh, angry demons like his master had been. His young master was ruthless in his attacks when he captured the dog, but he couldn’t say he minded any longer. His master had left for such a long time when he was growing, but Nyota had apologized.

It was an odd day when he became a beloved pet instead of a mere slave. He couldn’t say he had any regrets now. He could now help look after his Master’s family, and that was all he could really do, and hope they remained as kind to his children (which he would hopefully and eventually have once again) as his master is to him, but be ruthless to their enemies. He could only hope they would flourish.

User Image Balia had always been up earlier than her siblings and father, while she was a creature of the night, something about the daylight enticed her, called to her, as if giving her a peak at a world that is prettier than her own. She generally dismissed these feelings, deciding she was being stir crazy and needed to wander around, often times to the border and beyond, though she would never tell her father this.

Leaving the den's entrance Balia noticed her father's slave, Koin, watching the sun as it set. He was a peculiar Na'artu, a happy one. She gathered it was because her father treated him so well, which was in itself an oddity, as Balia had witnessed other Na'artu treated so poorly that often times they wished simply to die. Her father was a great demon, but he did have a soft spot in him, and she was glad for this as it allowed her to feel from time to time, something she was sure other demons might not be able to accomplish.

"Koin," She said simply as a greeting, deciding to sit next to him for the time being. Her sister was not up yet, neither her Aunt, so she had no reason to keep up appearances or even watch over he shoulder for either. She could let her guard down, so to speak.

"...Are you well?"

The odd dog was startled out of his thoughts at the sounds of the voice next to him. He gave a small smile, recognizing the voice of one of his master's children. "Good Evening, Young Mistress," He greeting it turn, bowing his head lightly to show his respect.

Or out of habit. Either way, Koin gave a kind smile to the young female. Of course, he did adore each and every one of the children. Koin loved children.

"It's been a nice day, so I've been well," He answered with a small hum. "I trust that you're doing well yourself?" He asked, softly. He didn't like this life for children, but he smiled. It wasn't his place.

It had to be hard on the young ones though. He couldn't imagine it at all. He wanted his master's children to love - despite being demons, and despite the harshness of life. He would do everything in his power...

But this was now, and he focused on young Balia before him.

"No, not well," Balia answered, a small sigh escaping her lips. She had a lot on her mind recently, what with her promising herself to Angra, and attempting to worm her way in as the most important female in his life. She had managed to do these tasks well, but she hadn't been able to make herself the only one in his life so far.

The fact was that Angra liked to surround himself with women. Well, Balia wouldn't really call them women, she liked to refer to them as "whores", as well she should because that was all they really would. Booty calls, disgusting sacks of meat fulfilling the carnal pleasures for Angra that she herself was unable to at this point in time. It still crawled under her skin and made her shudder, as well as sick.

"Koin...Have you ever loved?" Balia asked, looking towards him, expecting his answer, electric yellow eyes so piercing it was like she was burning them into one's soul.

"What ails you, young one?" he tilted his head in concern. He focused every ounce of his attention on his Master's daughter. He wanted to reach out to her, as if she was his child, and not his Master's.

The question though had startled him a bit. "Love? Once. A long time ago," he be bitter about it though. It was his fault she fell out of love with him after all. his eyes glazed with the memories a little. The final straw was when two of their children suddenly disappeared. He cursed his traveling blood for that, but he couldn't let his blood rest until he came here.

"Is love supposed to be complicated?" She asked, continuing on with the conversational topic. She wasn't sure if the feelings she felt were love, or maybe entitlement, but she knew that sometimes Angra made her feel jealous and angry. Balia may have even said that his actions hurt her, though she didn't want to admit that one openly, especially so close to the den. Shababa needn't know about her feelings, after all.

"I was sure love was to be simple and pure. Is it because I'm a demon that I will never have that sort of love?" She asked, a genuine concern in her voice.

She had always wondered whether or not her father loved her mother, or if the fact that they mated was purely so that he could sire more children. She wasn't sure if she was content with a relationship like that. She wasn't sure she wanted that for herself. If she was going to give herself to someone in that way she wanted to be certain that they were going to stay with her, forever.
