The day was warm and for once so was Uruloke. Well, not warm exactly, but he wasn't cold. The fact that he wasn't cold meant that he was far more limber in his movements, and far more willing to attempt any sort of movement at all. It was an excellent day to play with his siblings, who so frequently complained that all he did was sleep. Well, he'd show them.
Setting off with the determined stride of a cub who had nothing to fear and nowhere to be, and yet wished to reach his destination rapidly, Loke began to search for one of his littermates. It wasn't as if it was usually difficult to find one of them, what with there being thirteen in the litter, counting Uruloke himself. Really, they were all over the pride most of the time, getting into trouble and adventures or simply being underfoot. Loke wasn't often part of that, preferring to spend his sunlit hours sleeping and conserving warmth for the frigid nighttime.
Just the same, it was not difficult to find his siblings, and Loke wasn't picky about which one he played with. He just felt like playing! It was more chance than anything other factor that his gaze happened to fall first on his sister Kasai'Wakia.
"Kasi!" he called, bounding toward her with unusual energy. For him.

Kasi'wakia had left her family den earlier, and was out stalking and practicing her fighting. Well, as well as she could do on her own. This just meant she was practicing pouncing on a nearby tuff of dried grass. It did't move, or run, but she could get her aiming practice in and she didn't have to worry about it running off or dying or anything, except if she flopped on it and squished the plant, which she wasn't planning on doing.
She was getting ready to pounce again when she heard a familiar voice call out her name, or part of her name. She glanced up, spotting one of her brothers coming bouncing towards her. She blinked, surprised to see him so...awake. Usually, Uroloke wasn't that active.
"Uroloke!" She returned the call, then grinned, changing her aim. "Wanna play?" She asked eagerly. She didn't often get to spar with a live creature, and her siblings were prime play material. Afterall, they were the same size - mostly .

"Yes! Absolutely," Loke replied as he slowed to a walk. Bounding was not his usual gait for a very good reason. He knew it looked perfectly idiotic and not at all like a fierce Firekin cub was supposed to look.
His tail twitched and he kneaded the ground with anticipation as he thought of games they could play. He'd seen Kasi pouncing, and that was lots of fun, but he wanted to do something more structured and sneaky.
"I know! Let's pick a person to be prey and not tell them. Oh! Better! Everyone who has black fur on their tail is the enemy and we have to get them. If we can get away before they figure out who we are, it's a point."
He wasn't sure if they would be playing competitively against each other or working as a team, but either one would be fun. But maybe Kasi had other ideas, and he would wait to hear them before he got his heart set on his game. After all, he could play his game on his own, too, sometime.

Kasi beamed as her brother agreed to play and perked up at the game he suggested. Oh! That sounded brilliant, she decided, intrigued at the idea of pouncing on people and stalking. It was amazing practice, she thought to herself, before a grin twisted her face, and her eyes sparkled with playfulness.
"Sounds great, Loke!" Kasi announced, grinning still. "I bet I can get more points than you can though!"
Clearly, she intended to compete against him, not with him. She was a little too focused on herself to really think of teaming up with someone, at least for the moment. If she got into trouble, she'd probably turn around and demand that Loke help her.

Loke beamed back at Kasi, very pleased that his idea had gone over well with her. Some of his siblings said he wasn't very much fun, just because he liked to sleep a lot. He only slept a lot because he felt warmer when he was asleep. It wasn't like he was lazy or uninterested in playing. It's just that it's so cold to be awake most of the time. But this proved he was just as fun as they were.
"I bet you can't!" he replied, his very blue eyes moving to begin their search for a black-tailed victim. Disappointingly, there were none within his line of sight, but he knew for a fact there were lions in the pride who had this feature, so it was just a matter of looking harder.
But that would mean splitting up, which made another thought occur to him: "Hey, how will we know if we've got different people, or if we both got the same one? Are we allowed to both get the same person?"

Eager to start the competition, Kasi didn't bother bickering with her brother even though she knew she'd get the most targets! She paused at his question though, and she tilted her head.
"I s'pose we need to stay together then," she said, " and maybe alternative who gets who? So...I get the first one we find - and you get the second, but if either of us fails, then the other person gets a shot at that ones target? So...if you fail, I get a shot at the one you failed at, or maybe you just skip a turn or something." Of course, the example of someone 'failing' was not her, and she did not plan to fail at all, but it was wise to have some fallbacks in case one of them - not her - did fail at the game.
She shifted anxiously, not wanting to plan out things but she wanted to play! That was more fun then all this planning nonsense.

"Sure that sounds good," Loke said distractedly.
He was more than ready just to get started already. In hindsight, he wished he hadn't asked so many questions about the rules. They could have just worked them out as they went along, and if they'd done that, they would already be playing and maybe he'd have scored a point or two by now. Too much thinking, not enough action.
"Let's do it!"
He made what he hoped would be a mighty leap and set off at a trot. One of the things living in the desert taught a lion quickly was how to move with a minimum expenditure of energy, and Loke more than most lions was reluctant to expend more energy on his activities than he had to. That was all energy which could go to keeping him warm, as far as he was concerned, and so very valuable for that purpose.
He assumed that Kasi would go in the same direction he'd headed in, or else there would be more confusion, but since he'd asked so many questions for clarification before, he felt obligated to be the first one to act, too, or else he might come across as all planning and no follow-through. He didn't want to be like that. Nope!

Kasi beamed as her brother asked no more questions and simply charged off - or trotted off, since it was still Loke - ahead. She was close at his heels, uncaring that he had picked the direction. It wasn't really that important, which direction they went in, it only mattered if they succeeded in their game - ...and if Kasi won, which she fully planned on doing. She scanned the area, trying to find someone who met their criteria and she was disappointed to find that there was no one around, despite her scanning. "There's no one here," she huffed, in annoyance, coming up to trot beside her brother. "Where are they all? They have to be around somewhere!"
Maybe they had gotten word of their idea and had hidden? Ooh, those devious people, she thought, determined that they couldn't be failing and that it had to be some plan against them.

Do you mind if we don't actually RP them playing the game as much as just say they've started and let it be assumed that they continue playing? I'm kind of awful at RPing cub games I've come to discover.
"I don't know," Loke grumbled, worrying that his game wouldn't be any fun because people were being stupid and not being around. He didn't want to be no fun.
Loke frowned and the white fur above his eyes seemed to be swallowed up by the black fur which covered most of his face and marked the bottom edge of his brow. He knew for a fact that there were lots of lions in the pride who met his qualification for prey. It was why he'd chosen that particular feature. It didn't seem possible that they had all vanished at once by accident. There had to be a conspiracy at work here.
Unaware that his thought process mirrored that of his sister, Loke theorized, "Maybe they heard we were coming for them and hid?"
It seemed sort of cowardly to him, but it also flattered his ego, so he was torn as to whether he wished to accept this explanation or search for another one. There were two he knew for a fact he did not want to accept. The first was that he had come up with a bad game. The second was that he and Kasi simply weren't very good at hunting.
In a way, the second was the better of the two, at least for him, because he knew they would get better at hunting as they got older. It was much harder to force yourself to become more creative and clever. Loke was convinced there was an innate limit to that, and it could only be pushed so much.

Kasi was pleased that her brother had come to a similar conclusion to her. Well, if they'd both arrived at that conclusion, then it just had to be right, right? Clearly there was something afoot here, something devious against them.
"The cowards," she grumbled, shifting and glancing around. How dare they hide from them? Couldn't they face them bravely? Ruining their game, she huffed.
Oh. Her eyes lit up, and she grinned. Or this would just make the game better. "First one to find one gets an extra point!" She announced, " and you get a point if you manage to attack them too!" It just added a new level of competition she decided, eagerly waiting for her brother's response. She could get twice as many points as him that way, by finding them first and tackling. It was perfect!
She waited for her brother's agreement, all ready to charge off to find their targets.

"I like it," Loke exclaimed.
The new level of competition appealed to him, because now it wasn't just skill at hunting, but also skill at seeking, and he thought he might be getting pretty good at that. So even if he didn't manage to pounce first, he could still see them first. And he'd've bet he could probably attack them first if he tried hard. He could move pretty fast when he wanted to.
"Let's go!"
He didn't wait for her to say anything else before bounding off in search of appropriate quarry. He wanted to at least be the first to spot their prey, and first to spot also meant he'd be more likely to have the first chance to attack them. So it was definitely in his best interest to take the lead here.
