Life was good. Pretending to be a demon was the best idea Rasi ever had, except...

... except that he wasn't so sure he was pretending anymore. Sometimes he could almost feel Jikininki inside him. Ever since he went through the volcano his dreams became more like nightmares, only these nightmares no longer frightened him. Sometimes he looked back on the things he'd done before the three demons captured him, an unusual activity for a lion who rarely reflected on anything, and wondered whether his actions were comparable with what a normal, right minded lion would have done under the same circumstances.

For the most part, he tried to put these troublesome questions behind him. There was nothing for him in the rogue lands. His brother would tare him to pieces if he tried to re-take his old pride and the life of a nomadic rogue was not for him. When Rasi wanted to eat he preferred to have someone else do the dirty work for him. In fact, at this very moment, he was looking for someone to do just that. He had a certain slave in mind, too.

Ilterendi was used to her position as lower than mud compared to the higher ranking members of the pride, but it didn't mean that she had to like it. The slave was used to being bossed around, yelled at and generally treated poorly, and when she had moments to herself, she thought often of the sister who had abandoned her and left her in this forsaken mess. She had dreamt, as a cub – but only once or twice and never again – of her sister returning to save her or at least returning to keep her company in this mash-up of a life, but that had never happened. She scowled. It had been a foolish, stupid dream.

The slave was now scowling worse then before as she trudged around, looking for odd jobs to keep her busy. She had no set duties and usually was everyone's slave, taking on jobs that they needed. It was easier then waiting for a specific person to call to her. However, a familiar colour caught her eye. Ah! She knew that male. She drew to a stop, a familiar warm budding in her chest. A former slave – and someone Ilterendi greatly admired – the male was a welcome sight, and although the warmth in her chest didn't show outward -she wouldn't dare show that sort of feeling outside of her own mind. Even inside her mind, she was nearly ashamed of the emotion, but still, she waited for him to approach her, making sure she was plainly visible and standing proudly.

Ah, there she was, his old friend Ilterendi! Rasi approached her with a smile. When they first met Ilterendi was but a cub and Rasi was still getting his baring in this strange new pride. He initially mistook her for a demon because of her coloring, but he quickly learned that she was not. Species mattered as much as color in the demon pride and hybrids made unfit vessels for demonic souls.

Rasi agreed with the pride's stance on hybrids. Truth be told, though Ilterendi would never know this, Rasi would have sooner killed a hybrid than look at one before he came to this pride. Though he pitied Ilterendi he would never hurt her. She helped him survive a difficult time in his life and for that she deserved his kindness.

"Ah Ilterendi, there you are! Just the girl I wanted to see." He raised his eyebrows as he looked her over, amazed by how much she'd grown.

Ilterendi was always surprised when people viewed her with a smile, but she was getting used to it was Rasi. He had always been kind to her, even if when he had first become part of her life, he had been not the most friendly creature around, but she had been able to help him. She had a high tolerance for difficult people, she had soon found out.

Hello Rasi,” she greeted him quietly, her voice soft and almost non-existent. If she had been a demon, or even just a not-slave, she would have smiled at him, showing her delight that he had approached her. Instead, she simply did not frown, which was – in a way – her own smile. “Did you need me for something?” She asked, knowing she would agree to anything he asked. For Rasi, she would do anything, even if it put her in lesser favour with other creatures in the pride. Rasi was what was important, not the others she reluctantly served.

"If you're not already busy," Rasi teased. Now that he was a demon he knew she had to do whatever he said. "I'm feeling hungry. Do you think you could catch me a hare or something? Make sure you don't kill it."

Due to their history, Rasi treated Ilterendi better than other slaves, but in the back of his mind he always worried that another demon might spot him being nice to her. Addressing her in a friendly tone of voice could be considered almost as bad as protecting her from abuse. He wasn't entirely sure, but he had a feeling it would be bad. That was why he only spoke to her this way when he was sure no one else was watching.

Ilterendi shifted in a gesture which may have been shy had she been any other female in the pride, but instead looked instead uncertain on her. “I have no other duties to attend to,” she said carefully, keeping her voice low. She was pleased that Rasi had sought her out, it made her feel – for the moment – very special. “I believe I can find a hare to satisfy your hunger.” She didn't even blink at the demand that she not kill it. It was something she had grown used to in the time she had lived within the pride, and barely knew anything different. Most tended to prefer...live prey, and Ilterendi was rarely asked to kill, unless it was for a cub and even then, they were more interested in playing then eating normally.

She hesitated, before lowering her gaze to the floor, offering him a rare but very fleeting smile. “If you give me a few moments, I should be able to find one quickly,” she volunteered. She knew the pride inside and out, she thought bitterly. She had done so many odd jobs around the pride, she felt as if she had traced every inch of the pride with her paws already, and yet was expected to do it over and over again at the bidding of others.

"I'd like to watch, if you wouldn't find that too distracting. I'll keep my distance." He could use the entertainment. Though he greatly enjoyed his work as a gaurd - interrogating, defending, capturing - the boarders had been slow for days. Rasi needed some excitement. He considered hunting below him, now that he was a full fledged demon, though his disdain probably stemmed from his ineptness, but he did enjoy it as a spectator's sport.

Ilterendi couldn't really pretend she was surprised by his question and nodded her head. "It would not distract me," she said calmly, knowing she wouldn't have said 'no' even if it did distract her. Not even to Rasi, would she speak her own opinion, for fear of who might overhear or fear of him turning against her now that he was a demon, not merely a slave like she.

The rustle nearby of living beast caught her attention, her ears perking and her head tilting towards it. "Excuse me," she said quietly, bowing her head to him politely as she slipped off towards where her future kill was lingering. She knew he would follow her, but it was still not polite to leave without saying something, especially to Rasi, who seemed to bring out the best in her - in the most submissive way. She still felt bitter that he was not longer a slave, and was no longer within her grasp, but at least he had not turned against her completely.

The hare was simply in the wrong spot at the right time, she thought as she kept her body low to the ground, slinking towards it with a practice ease. It may have been someone's familiar, she thought without care. If it was a familiar, then it should not have been out on it's own. She pounced when she was within grasp of it, snapping her jowls around it's leg, not it's throat as she would have had she been intending to kill. She jerked her head up, tugging it up with her as well. She kept a firm grip despite the struggles and moved back towards where Rasi was.
