Shortycake's Battle for Valor!

Crowded around the pile of Modmas goodies, Gaians of all walks of life pull out their weapons. From the strange to the serious, they all have something up their sleeve.

Okay Shortycake is no different. She whips out a massive wooden staff, carefully carved with vines and feathers. You think you can see eyes peering from the dark, grainy wood.

And then she is gone. She dashes forward, hey eyebrows furrowed under her modern Santa hat and sweat collecting at the faux fur lining her clothes. This is a battle she will not lose. Not by any means. Modmas must be saved.

So she dashes into the plain, her eyes on the piles of grunnies spread upon the ground. They look helpless, but she knows better.

Just as she takes a swing, the creature shows its agility by leaping into the air. Its body twists and turns, undulating around the staff she weaves through the air. Not a single cry is made, even as the grunny lands upon its fellows and braces itself for another attack.

With a slight exhale, Cake bends at the knees, sweeping her staff under the grunny. He steps backward and bares his teeth, saliva dripping onto the back of the grunny beneath him.

Another miss. Cake clenches her jaw and tightens her grip on her staff. She can feel the wood grain and carvings leaving prints on her palms, but she ignores it and plants her feet into the moist earth.

This is going to be a long battle.

Shortycake closes her eyes, listening to the heart beat of the grunnies surrounding her. They are getting closer to the Monthly Collectible, the gold, and the Gaia Cash. Their squeals and random babbling fill the air. She can sense how eager they are to end this joyous occasion for all of the Gaians involved.

And with that, she lets out a yell and begins wildly swinging her staff to and fro. It sweeps across the grunnies. Their fur quivers in the wind created by her intense attacks. None of them meet their targets, but she is building strength, building adrenaline, and building anger.

Finally, Cake opens her eyes and stares at the grunny she has been fighting from the beginning. She lets out a loud "Hyah!"

Her staff makes a loud crack as it lands on the back of the grunny. The creature squeals in pain and leaps backward, but Cake smiles and is ready. She shifts her hands on her staff and begins moving forward to the grunny.

With another exhale, Shortycake slips her staff under the Grunny. She catches its leg and it flips onto its back, legs kicking violently in the air. Other grunnies are beginning to pay attention to cake. Their hackles are raising and the air is fill with the sound of growls and squeaks.

Cake crouches low to the ground and narrows her eyes at the struggling Grunny. She shoves her staff under its rolls of skin and fur, tossing it into the air with a single, swift movement. It flips in the air, its eyes widened in terror. Then, just as it is about to hit the ground, Cake cracks it back into the air with another upward movement of her intricately carved staff.

This creature isn't going to last much longer. She just knows it.

The Grunny didn't even have a chance to react as Shortycake pulled her staff over her head and then brought it down on the Grunny once more. Its fur was matted with mud and saliva from the other Grunnies. In the distance, Cake could hear more of the green creatures squealing as the Gaians beat them back. Her feet were clear of them and she was alone with this last, lonely Grunny. He limped backward, trying to escape. But Cake knew that he couldn't. He would never get that chance.

Finally, with a loud war cry, Cake jumped into the air and delivered the final blow to the Grunny in front of her. She jammed her staff into its back and with a loud squeal, it ran off into the tree line.

It would not be doing any more damage to Modmas. It was far too injured. Not to mention terribly afraid of approaching any Gaian again.

Cake wiped the sweat from her brow and gave a small smile.

Just as she relaxed the tension in her shoulders, however, she saw something moving in the distance. It looked huge and fast and utterly terrifying. She thought she saw hats flutter from the moving dust cloud.

Then she noticed the rippling, dirty white coats and clenched her teeth.

Round 2. FIGHT!

Squinting her eyes into the distance, Shortycake steps over the battered line of Grunnies covering the ground and leaps at the first labtech that she sees. She immediately strikes him across the face with her staff. A cracking noise resonates through the area and she sees a deep purple bruise well-up under the labtech's pale cheek.

With a grunt, Cake twirls her staff behind her and the slams it into the ribs of the labtech. She can feel the impact, but the labtech barely flinches. His eyes only glow around the edges and his skin seems to grow even paler.

The labtech steps backward slowly, awkwardly, then stumbles forward again. Its weaving confuses Cake and she can holds her staff close to her body in a defensive pose.
