Hesitantly Bela stepped forward to face the enemy. It wasn't easy to do; the grunnies...they were...they were just so cute! She knew looks could be deceiving, but how nice it would be if they really were as cute as they looked.

The first grunny just sat there, looking at her. She couldn't take it. She knelt down and slowly extended her hand towards the grunny. "It's alright...I won't hurt you...if you don't hurt me..."

The little grunny's ears twitched, and then it's nose. Sniff, sniff. It began to make it's way towards Bela and things seemed hopeful. "Yes, that's it...it's alright..." Bela cooed at the grunny.

Suddenly, a ravenous look appeared in the grunny's eyes and it leaped towards Bela's outstretched hand.
"Eeeeeek!" she shrieked, and pulled her hand back just in time. The grunny took another leap at her and without another hesitation, Bela grabbed her staff and swung.

The staff struck the grunny straight in the face, knocking it backwards. For a second the grunny sat on the ground, its head spinning from the blow. Stars had begun to revolve around its head, but before Bela could marvel over the strange spinning stars, the grunny was back on its feet!

It glared at Bela, and she glared back. No longer would she be deceived by its false cuteness! She gripped her staff tightly and held it out. "Come and get it then!" she called to the grunny.

The grunny growled and made a strange hissing noise. It was calling its friends! Bela looked around in horror as more grunnies came to its aid.

"Alright, I'll take you all on!" she called. She was a bit frightened; those things looked vicious know that she knew how they truly were. She couldn't imagine being bitten by one.

Suddenly, there wasn't just one grunny, there were five. Bela gulped and prepared herself for her next swing. One of the grunnies took a leap, and Bela gave her staff a swing with all her might, hoping it would hit its mark.

The swing missed and the grunny sailed towards her. It hit her in the shoulder, almost knocking her backwards.

"Eeeeeeekk!!!" She screamed and flailed her arms about, trying to rid herself of the grunny. More were starting to come at her. She grabbed the grunny in her hands and yanked it off of her. It hadn't managed to sink its teeth into her, but its nasty little claws had left their mark. She threw it to the ground and stepped back, away from the grunnies. She knew that her one staff wouldn't do her much good against all of them. She'd have to come back tomorrow with another strategy...

"I'll be back..." she hissed at them, as reluctantly she turned to leave, keeping a close watch on the grunnies to make sure they didn't attack her while her back was turned...

Bela had come back again, this time with a new plan. She still didn't have any other weapons other than her staff, but she had a strategy. For one thing, it was a new day. The grunnies wouldn't know when to expect her and she felt that she had a chance to sneak up on them.

The second thing was that she thought she had figured out one weakness that the grunnies might have...

But first things first. It was time for a sneak attack. Slowly, and as quietly as she could, she crept towards the grunnies. It just so happened that they were enjoying an afternoon nap. Mwuahahaha...

She picked her target, raised her staff, and swung!

Bela expected there to be a definite "whack!" sound, however...

Another grunny had seen her sneak attack and had jumped in the way, grabbing the staff and knocking it out of her hands. Bela gulped; this didn't look good.

It was time for plan B. As the defending grunny had reared around for an attack, Bela seized her opportunity. She leaped at the grunny and grabbed it tight. If there was one thing grunnies hated...it was Love! She squeezed the grunny in the tightest, most obnoxiously loving hug she could muster.

Sure enough! The grunny was caught by surprise! The grunny shrieked with the pain of the Love. Not only that, but its eyes were popping from the force of Bela's hug.

Bela released the fainted grunny, noting that it was much cuter this way; harmless. Hugging grunnies wasn't so bad. And now, she had more grunnies to hug. They weren't defeated yet, but their end would come soon...

It was the third day and Bela was back and had toned her muscles for some hardcore hugging. The remaining grunnies were ready for her though, but she didn't let that stop her.

They gathered around, and she stared at them all. It seemed to be a stare down, but then with a roar Bela charged at them, hoping to grab up several of them and hug them.

The grunnies were too quick for Bela; they hopped away before she could grab a single one. Feeling a little silly, she turned around to face them again, thinking of how best she might catch them.

But now it was the grunnies turn to attack. One of them lunged at her, just as she had lunged at it.

"Ahhhhhh!!" Bela screamed, as she was so good at doing, and ducked, flinging her arms over her head. The grunny sailed over her head, but more of them were staring at her. "This doesn't look good..." Bela thought.

Another grunny lunged at her, and thought it was scary, Bela stood her ground. She grabbed the grunny in her arms as it jumped and started to squeeze it.

Before Bela could squeeze too tightly, the grunny jumped out of her arms. It seemed a little upset though, for it scampered away, leaving it's allies to defeat Bela instead.

Bela sighed. This wasn't going as planned. She knew her best weapon was hugging, she just didn't know the best way to get a hold of them. Catching them seemed to be working, but she would just have to be faster...

She decided to try again, this time remembering to squeeze as soon as she felt the grunny in her arms. The only problem was, they were all watching her now with wary eyes, none of them lunging at her.

She stood there for a moment, waiting. Were they afraid of her now? They knew she was going to hug them. Hmm...

She guessed she would just have to run at them again.

Arms wide, she ran at the grunnies, attempting to catch them.

It was to no avail again. Bela was starting to get frustrated. She let out an angry frustrated growl, letting her guard down.

One of the grunnies, despite it's fear of being hugged, had seen Bela's moment of frustration and took its chance. It jumped at Bela, latching on to her arm.

Bela spun in circles, flailing her arms, trying to dislodge the grunny. With one mighty swing of her arm she managed to fling the grunny off, but with the power of her spin she herself was flung to the ground. This gave her an idea.

Time to play dead. Bela let out one whimper of defeat and then lie motionless on the ground.

Curiously, the grunnies began to creep forward. And then, when they were just close enough...

"RAAWWWRRR!!" Bela screamed, and reached out and grabbed them!

The grunnies were stunned by Bela's death grip. She squeezed them her tightest yet. Frightened, eyes popping, and skin burning from the love of the hug, the grunnies ran off.

Bela had defeated them! They wouldn't show their face around here again, that was for sure!

Enemy: Lab Tech

With the defeat of the grunnies came a new, more menacing enemy - the Lab Tech. Surprisingly enough, it came with an angry grunny on its head. Funny...

Bela gulped and gripped her trusty staff; there was no way she was going to hug that Lab Tech. Though, something told her she might need a new weapon. That Lab Tech might try to make a test subject out of her...

She looked at the end of her staff, seeing the lantern that was hanging there. Perhaps the fire within could do some damage to this Lab Tech...

Opening the little door to the lantern, she crept toward the Lab Tech. The Lab Tech was approaching too, scalpel in hand.

When she got close enough, Bela swung her staff, hoping to hit the Lab Tech hard enough to smart, but also to catch him on fire...

Well, the hit didn't seem to affect the Lab Tech at all. He simple stood there and stared at Bela with that creepy, vacant, zombie like stare. The good thing - his sleeve had in fact caught fire.

Suddenly, the Lab Tech reached out its hand, and with a hungry groan, lunged at Bela. Bela ducked nearly just in time, and as she spun around avoiding the Lab Tech's grip, she flapped her arms in order to fan the flames that were creeping up his arm. If she could fan that fire bigger, she might have a chance!

Yes! The fanning had worked and now the Lab Tech was the one flapping about! He was on fire! Mwuahahahahaha! The grunny on his head had already hissed and ran away. Bela stood there and watched as the Lab Tech flapped around a bit, and then finally, it ran away after the grunny.

It wasn't defeated yet, but that would do for today. With her trusty staff and lantern, Bela headed home for the day.
