The gunny and girl stared at one another, waiting for one to make their move. The crowd around stared silently. It was as though they were intransed by this act of savage nature like trolls in the ED forum.

"Move already n00b!" someone shouted. Startled, the girl jerked her head away from the gunny to see who had dared to call her a noob. The gunny took advantage of this and once more leapt at her. It's body was a small, furry bullet shot toward the holiday clad girl.

"Not again, gunny," she growled, turning to face the creature. Her arm shot forward, carried by the momentum of her spinning body. The two forces collided with a loud smack. The second gunny fell to the ground, close to where the first had fallen.

"Ow," the girl spoke softly, shaking her hand while the stingy feeling slowly faded. "Please, tell me that's the last one."

Apparently it wasn't. Before you could say "Coco kitty just stole Gwee's last marshmallow" another of the gunnies had appeared and sunk it's tiny needle like teeth into the girls leg.

"Why is it always the leg!" She cried out. At once she began a crazed skipping dance in hopes of knocking the creature off of her. The crowd snickered, joining in the strange jumping dance. "That's not helping!" She cried out to them.

The crowd continued to perform the new dance, even forming contests around it. They also began singing and overall enjoying the festivities of Modmas. It was as though the battle going on just to the side of them was no more than a strange performance, another part of the celebrations. And one that was apparently getting old.

The girl probably would have been slightly irked that her courage was going unnoticed, but there's a silly thing about fighting a gunny. It's bite will make you forget about most everything except getting the creature off of you. "Get . . . off!" she cried out.

The morning rays were slowly lighting up the earth as the sun crept higher up and up toward it's far off zenith. Dew glistened on the grass around the town. A few birds began chirping, joining the chorus of Modmas celebrants. It was very picturesque.

Well, except for the strange young girl in a slightly torn holiday dress, jumping around and shouting while a small green gunny cramped down on her leg. Not exactly the scene you want on a holiday card.

"Why ... won't ... you .... let .... GO!" she cried out in frustration. A soft chuckle came from the beast as it cramped down harder.

He may have eaten her, for all we know. However, that is not the case. For at that moment someone's stack of neutral polo and ocean summer shirts, originally meant to be pawned off on a newbie but instead left aside for the celebrations, would finally show to have some use. For the girl did not see the pile of clothes and promptly tripped on it.

Down she fell, arms waving as though she would suddenly fly. Too bad she couldn't. The girl ended up face planting into the ground.

"Ow. . . ." she moaned, standing up and trying to dust her dress off. The gunny laid on the ground crushed by the weight of the young gaian. "Well, not the most glorious of victories, but it works," she said to no one in particular. "And I can always alter the details a little when I tell the others," she muttered under her breath.

She began to walk toward the festivities (after checking the bushes to make sure that there was no more of those vile gunnies). But she couldn't shake the feeling that something was awry. After all, gunnies would not usually attack so close to the town. . . .

The girl barely got a few steps back toward town when a loud cry sounded from behind her. She dropped to her knees, head lowered and hands pressed to her ears as the cry drowned her senses. Then, it began a soft hum before finally fading.

"What in Gaia's green earth . . . ?" the girl muttered to herself, trying to stand back up. As though in answer, another sharp cry pierced the air. "Ahhh!" she cried out, clinching her eyes shut while trying to hold off the horrid high pitch scream.

Again it stopped. But the peace was short lived as the girl cried out. Tiny pricks of teeth against flesh formed on her legs. Two small gunnies cramped down on her while three more moved forward to attack.

She started flailing her arms, trying to knock the gunnies off of her. Attacking a bunch of monsters without a weapon now really seemed like a really bad idea. If only she had thought of that before hand. Perhaps then she wouldn't be in this situation.

"No . . . if I didn't fight . . . we'd all be . . . " She didn't want to finish that sentence. Didn't want to think of Modmas being -dare the narrator type it- ruined. The girl shuddered at the very thought. No. She had to stay strong. Had to fight them off. Somehow. . . .

She struggled to stand up, but the gunnies dug deeper into her leg. The other three gunnies leaped toward her. The girl reached her arms over her head to shield at least that area from their tiny needle teeth. Her eyes clinched shut, preparing for the attack.

After a short time of not feeling anything, though, she peeked one eye open. Then she suddenly jerked up, horrified at what she saw. The remaining gunnies were not attacking her, but instead going past her, right to the Modmas celebrants!

"Nooooo!" she cried out. She had to do something to stop this. And soon, before the gunnies attacked. There were too many newbies in that area. What could she do?

Wait, she did have something. She reached up, took the poinsettia from her hair, and quickly took a couple of leaves from the plant. That done, she put the flower back and quickly tried to force the leaves into the mouths of the gunnies attacking her. Hungry as they were, they opened their mouths and quickly ate the plant, and nearly the girl's fingers as well.

She grinned. They had let go of her and now she could concentrate on the remaining gunnies. The two that had attacked her suddenly started to pale, spitting and coughing. Greedy pets. While poinsettias were not poisonous*, their leaves could cause a rather nasty stomachache. It would seem that in this case, it was bad enough that the gunnies no longer wished to attack as they slowly started to slink back where they came from.

Now, she just needed to stop the other three gunnies. And whatever else that would appear.

* Narrator's note: It's true. Poinsettias are not really poisonous like previously believed. Their leaves may cause stomachaches, vomiting, or diarrhea but it's rarely severe. See, we can be educational as well as fun. biggrin

"Stop!" She cried out, racing toward the gunnies. A few of the other Gaia's immediately stopped in their tracks as though frozen on the spot. "No, not you! The gunnies!" she corrected with a hint of annoyance.

"Ohhhhhhhhh." they said in a chorus before going off to listen to the 12 days of Christmas competition.

The gunnies, on the other hand, were not so obedient. They continued forward without even a glance back at the girl. Well, two of them did. One turned around, stuck it's tongue out, and then moved forward.

He was, of course, the first to get attacked by the girl. She raced forward and tackled the tiny creature. To the ground they fell. But she was prepared this time for the descent. The girl curled up, then bounced back on her feet.

"This will teach you to give me a raspberry," she yelled. Her arm shot forth, forcing the gunny into the air. He spun like a furry green football and another gunny was to be it's quarterback.

Too bad the other gunny didn't know this though. The flying gunny hit the one of the left, collapsing in a pile of green fur out cold. That left just one gunny and one adrenaline fueled girl.
