Aiding Attorney: Hugo Lane

[Hugo Lane]

Hugo yawned as he woke up in his office; he'd been sleeping there ever since he converted his house into an orphanage.

He grabbed his schedule and looked over his plan for the next seven days. Fund-raiser, charity auction, hospital visit, another fund-raiser... Hugo grinned and started for the door. He still needed to finish a few things before the fund raiser could sta--

"GOOOOOOOOOOOO!" shouted a female voice as the door flew open, knocking Hugo to the floor.

Hugo sat up and grinned. "I didn't expect you to be that excited about the fund-raiser, Mina!"

His assistant, and astral projector in training, extended a paper toward him. "No! I mean, yes, but that's not what I'm excited about! Look at this!"

He took the paper and started reading. Modmas, eh?...

Hugo grinned and looked at Mina, his spirits blazing. But, saving Modmas would have to wait until after the fund-raiser. He couldn't just cancel it and disappoint everyone.

After finishing up the fund raiser, Hugo and Mina set out to help save Modmas.

"Hey Go, what exactly are we doing with this?" Mina asked, rubbing her chin.

"Mina, you're the one who told me about Modmas. Didn't you read the article?" Hugo replied.

"Well, yeah, but I only read some of it. You need to remind me!"

Hugo read over the paper again. "Well, what I gather is that Mr. Gambino is jealous about people talking about Modmas instead of him. So, he and his minions are going to--"

"Minions? You mean we're going to fight‽"

As if heralded by Mina's statement, a green rabbit burst out of the bushes, running straight for Hugo and Mina!

Battle 1 Start!

Enemy: Grunny

AC - 10
HP - 40

 

[Hugo Lane]

Hugo reached into his pocket, pulling out a somewhat sharpened pencil.

He began to sweat. I didn't forget to bring everything, did I?

TAKE THIS!

Deciding to make the best of what he had, Hugo threw the pencil at the grunny. After flipping around in the air a few times, the eraser end whacked the grunny on the side.

HP: 40 - 7 = 33

The grunny jumped up and darted toward a tree.

"Get back here!" Hugo yelled, leaping forward.  

[Hugo Lane]

HOLD U--

Hugo, relatively inexperienced with leaping at trees, hit the tree face-first.

"Go, you almost had him!" Mina yelled encouragingly. Hugo smiled, but his expression dimmed a bit as he looked at the branches of the tree. What was that grunny going to do next?

HP at the end of the day: 33  

[Hugo Lane]

Hugo turned to Mina.

"Mina, can you ask Mona for help?" he asked.

"Good idea!" she replied. Kneeling down, Mina placed her hands together, and slumped over.

Hugo heard a rustling, and glanced up just in time to see the grunny launching itself at his head!  

[Hugo Lane]

HOLD UP!

Hugo grabbed for his briefcase and held it in front of him. The grunny, unable to change its trajectory, crashed right into it!

HP: 33 - 18 = 15

Yes! Hugo inwardly cheered. But, the grunny wasn't knocked out yet. Hugo turned to Mina to see if she had finished talking to Mona yet.  

[Hugo Lane]

"Watch out!"

He saw her standing with her knees bent. "Don't worry, I got it!" she said. grinning and giving Hugo a thumbs up.

He turned around and saw the grunny lying on the ground, a rock next to it. "When I woke up, I saw the grunny get up and leap at your head, so I grabbed a rock and threw it," she explained. "I guess it took him out!"

HP: 15 - 18 = <0

Hugo smiled. "Thanks, Mina. That was great!"

They continued on, wondering about what they would face next.

HP at the end of the day: 0

As they walked on, they heard some rustling from the bushes, and another grunny jumped out.

"You can take care of this one, too, Go!" Mina cheered.

Battle 2 Start!

Enemy: Grunny

AC - 10
HP - 40

 

[Hugo Lane]

TAKE THIS!

Hugo grabbed a post-it note block and threw it at the grunny. The block landed right on its head, briefly stunning it.

HP: 40 - 5 = 35

The grunny glared at Hugo. It backed up, preparing to charge!  

[Hugo Lane]

The grunny sped toward Hugo; he didn't have time to search for something to defend himself with. He grabbed the first thing he could. A... pamphlet‽

The grunny had almost reached him. Hugo rolled up the pamphlet and prepared to swing.

HOLD UP!

He swung the rolled-up pamphlet, managing to knock the grunny off of its path and hurt it a bit, only due to the rabbit's own speed.

HP: 35 - 7 = 28

I'm wearing it down, Hugo thought, but I need to get a decent hit in!

HP at the end of the day: 28  

[Hugo Lane]

Hugo turned to Mina. "Hey, Mina, what did Mona tell you?"

"She said that you can't just fight it, you need to turn its speed against itself!"

That would work! Hugo realized. He turned back to the grunny to find it lunging at him.

(Oh dear, I forgot to roll the dice sweatdrop )

Hugo tried to duck, but the grunny landed right on his head. It started biting at his face.

Hugo yanked the grunny off of his face. "Okay, time to really fight back."  

[Hugo Lane]

I OBJECT!

Hugo threw the grunny to the ground, causing it to squeak and scamper off into the bushes.

HP: 28 - 1 = 27

"...Now time to really fight back."

HP at the end of the day: 27  

[Hugo Lane]

Hugo watched the bushes carefully. The grunny could return from anywhere.
