Kule gave a soft yawn. The morning come hours before, but he couldn't seem to shake the sleep from his bones. He pushed through a group of trees - ones that he had played in during his youth (he had been able to run clear through the gaps in the trees easily).
Now, though, he was grown and he had a beautiful mate and grown, though adopted, children. It was odd to think about really. It seemed like so long ago that he had returned to the pride, his mane still growing in.
However, this lion felt like quite the hermit - despite living within a pride, he rarely left his mate but to hunt. He knew those from his youth, but not many others. Today, he was determined to at least venture back to the main part of the pride and see what was happening.

Eshe held her head in her paw with a groan. For the life of her, she couldn't wake up and until she did, she was useless to everyone. So, she laid on her side next to a hollow log and wished the sun would disappear for a while.
Though she hadn't been in the pride long, she had already met so many others and felt ashamed every time someone thought she was ignoring them because she didn't respond to their greeting. It wasn't that she was rude, she just couldn't hear them. Thus, in the middle of the hustle and bustle, she was still able to cat nap without a problem.
Now, if she could just find that mate of hers, everything would be alright.

The male continued his path silently, enjoying the dancing lights on the ground from the sun. He always enjoyed this sight, but today they revealed something he hadn't seen in a while.
A new face.
Kule gave a small tilt of his head, wondering if he should bother the new female while she seemed to be resting. He could simply stop by and say hello... He supposed that was the best course of action - if she didn't want company, she would surely say so, right?
The brown and white male moved closer. "Hello," he called out, though not loudly, hoping to catch her attention.

Eshe stretched her foreleg out infront of her to straighten the feathers in her band. It really was a beautiful gift, even though it annoyed the life out of it. Same with the feather in her ear. Now if she could just get these feathers to lay straight...
Her ears flicked up. Was that...buzzing? Were the bugs bad in this area? She didn't want to lounge in a bug infested spot. Eshe swiped at the air around her head and happened to catch something white out of the corner of her eye. Thats when she realized the buzzing was probably words.
"Sorry, but could you...um...speak a little louder?"

"Louder?" he questioned allowed, in the same tone. He gave a small tilt of his head. Why did he need to speak louder? Only then did it occur to him that she might not be able to hear him.
He frowned a bit. "It this better?" He rose his voice - hoping it did not sound like he was yelling at her. That would potentially be bad. He moved closer to her, hoping distance would help and so that he wouldn't have to shout so loud.
He gave a small look of concern geared towards her hearing.

When she saw his lips move, Eshe started making 'up' motions with her paws. It occured her that by now, she should know how to read lips.
"Much better, thank you." Eshe smiled shyly and moved to sit up. It still sounded a little weird to her, but at least now she knew what he was saying. "Sorry." She placed her forepaws together. Even her own voice was louder than it should have been. "I can't hear very well; never have been. Anyway, it's nice to meet you...?"

A small note of bemusement crossed Kule's maw - it was like they were shouting at each other in friendly way. "I'm Kule, nice to meet you too, Miss!" He said brightly and loudly, so she could hear him. He gave a small nod of acceptance at her bad hearing - he suspected it, but he was not completely sure.

"Eshe!" She unintentionally raised her voice when she stretched, and never bothered to notice what she'd done. "My name's Eshe." The spotted lioness stood up to her full height. On the whole, she looked taller than the average female, but compared to her mate, she was a greyhound to his bulldog. "Would you mind walking with me? I'm thirsty and I'm not really sure where a...clear watering hole is."

"Of course not," Kule responded in a half-yell. He didn't want to keep shouting at her, but he had to so she could even hear him - it was odd. "I'll show you to one," he gave a nod to her, still speaking as loudly as he could without, hopefully, shouting.
He stepped away from her a bit, and turned. "Follow me!"

"Thanks." Eshe smiled in response and trotted after him. She didn't say much else, because she was sure that the more they talked, the more pride members would be drawn in. It was embarrassing enough around one lion, much less the whole pride.

He lead her through the swamp lands, going over a few patches of deeper water by navigating carefully over or around them until the came across a relatively clean patch of water. The bottom of the water was filled with silt but all of the water came from condensation and rain from passing storms. It refused to evaporate due to the thick canopy that hung over their heads.
"Here we are," he called.

The watering hole left much to be desired, but it was a welcomed relief, never the less. “Thank you.” Eshe smiled at her new found companion and by passed him to drink.
