Well, the thing is, I've been told to represent the God, you need a silver or grey candle. Then I'm told you need a black candle. So I decide to look at other altars, and they have black candles. So I'll stick with that. Is it a black candle, or can it be either?

The elements:

To the North, I have a green candle, Pestle and Mortar (made out of stone, so I presumed it fit with the Earth element), Stones, A small trinket of salt, and my "Worry Stone".

To the east, I have a yellow candle, Incense and an Incense burner. I have yet to buy a bell.

To the South I have a red candle, An Oil Burner, and a few oil bottles.

And finally to the west, I have a blue candle, a Chalice, A bowl with salt water and seashells in it, and a black rock from the beach with barnacles on it.

Is all this correct and specific?

I know, but I would like some accuracy.

But there is no "accuracy". There's no yardstick to measure it against.

Okay, then.

Why don't you just use whatever you feel fine with?

Why do you want some accuracy?

Good advice. I should've done that.

I don't think accuracy is the right word. I just wanted to make sure I was using the correct way of representation.

The problem is there are many different ways of keeping an altar, depending on your path. What might be the proper way for one group might be different from what is proper for another group.

I think what you said you have on your altar sounds lovely smile

Why would you be unsure about that way of representation?

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with it. I actually like the way how you represented water and earth. 4laugh

I think the color of the candle for your god would depend on who the god is what he does and what colors/images/symbols represent that to you. If silver does that great and if black does that good too. Just my thought though.

Because of mixed beliefs and traditions. But now I know what feels right for oneself is what matters.

Thank you ^^ I would put up photos, but I don't have a camera D:

I feel black works best for me. To me, silver ties with the moon. A feminine symbol.

Black and white are a balance. Like the God and Goddess. (I use white for the Goddess).

To clear all this confusion yadda yadda up, I now know what feels right for oneself is what matters. Because it's personal to them.

Also, I moved my altar to a larger space today. Sadly. it's a little cramped, away from any sunlight and it's a bit low down.

I have a couple little statutes to represent deities- I also have a ton of Novena Candles- which is nice when you can find specific Saints that represent specific Loa.

i never really thought there was a certain way of setting up an altar. if there was,my altar could never be called an altar. it is essentially just my stones,a glass bottle of saltwater, and a small pentagram pendant.

also,i have to wonder, when you say ''the god and goddess'' do you mean the god and goddess of the British isles?
