Mel was… extremely bored.
Daddy was patrolling, Uggi was out hunting with Amani, the twins were playing a strange game together, Nadhir was having one of his days and Asali was with him. It seemed everyone was doing something but no one was doing anything with her. Mel’s big sister had left earlier so it seemed Mel really was on her own.
The cub rolled on her back and watched the clouds. They were thin and dispersed with no discernable shapes that Mel could spot. So much for that game. The young banu yawned despite not being tired or sleepy. But wait… she was missing someone. One, two, three… wait… Ruqayqa! Where was her sister?
“Ru? Rooooo?” the young banu ran from one place to the other looking for her missing sister. Hopefully, she wouldn’t be too busy to play with Mel.

Quiet days were both blessings and curses so far as the juvenile was concerned. They were a bit older now and given a bit more free reign about the den, which was all well and good, but it only could go so far to cure boredom.
While it hadn't been explicitly set, Ruqayqa had set up a perimeter around their den that she couldn't cross without being watched by Daddy or unless she was given permission, but everyone was busy. At least, it seemed so.
Aimlessly she meandered back and forth, watching various pride members go back and forth while they did their things. She paused, looking down at her paws. There was a medium sized pebble, relatively smooth and, in a somewhat abstract way, heart shaped. She blinked down at it before a smile slowly spread across her features.
What was that? The cub looked up an around. Someone was calling her. It didn't sound like Daddy or their mom. It sounded like..."Mel?" She called back. "I'm over here!" She could show her sister the pretty rock she had found!

“There you are!” the brown girl giggled when she realized her sister was alone. Finally, someone who didn’t look too busy to play. “I was looking all over for you.”
That was a bit of a stretch, of course, as there weren’t many places where her sister could’ve been – she wasn’t a bad girl that ran off on her own. The young girl hopped closer to her sister and gave a quick nuzzle on the nose. She did love Ruqaiqa’s little white heart.
“What are you doing?” she asked curiously, tilting her head to the side.

"Really? Well, then I'm glad you found me," Ru said with a smile. It would have been quite impressive if she had up and disappeared to someplace that her sister couldn't find her. After all, they couldn't exactly go too far from the den. It would mean that she had either been cubnapped or wandered off outside of her set perimeter which would have been bad.
She gave a soft giggle at the nuzzle to her nose and rubbed her cheek against her sister's.
"Oh, nothing much really. I found a heart rock!" The cub chimed proudly, taking a little side step so that the small vaguely heart-shaped pebble could be seen. "Isn't it neat? Do you think there are more of them around?" Ru looked down at the stone, angling her head one way and then another. Sure it wasn't perfectly heart shaped, but it was definitely there. Perhaps if they were lucky another one could be laying somewhere nearby and they both could have one to keep for always.

“Wow…” Mel reacted with appropriate enthusiasm, wide eyes full of awe. “It’s like your nose!”
She giggled, lifting one paw to touch her sister’s white marking gently. Then it occurred to her that her mother might like a pretty stone like this so maybe they could make a gift out of one like it. Asali did like her treasures.
“Let’s look for more! And then we can give one to mom as a gift!” It was great idea, right? They could have fun and cheer their mother at the same time! She was always so worried about Nadhir... "Where did you find it?"
The young girl looked at the ground and shifted a bit of dirt around with her paw, looking for something that might catch her attention.

Ru laughed brightly at the connection between her nose and the recently discovered stone. "It does!"
Her eyes sparkled as she echoed her sister's giggle when her nose was booped. She enjoyed spending time with her sister. Perhaps next time she found herself getting bored, Ru might seek out her sibling instead of meandering around bored and alone. Even walks were more exciting with at least one other someone.
"Hey, yeah! Oh, Mel, I bet she would love one!" The dusty brown cub looked to where the first rock lay between her sister and herself. "I found it right around here, so I bet if there are more around here somewhere."
She scooted the first stone that she had found off to the side so that it wouldn't get confused for a new heart stone. The youngster started digging around in the dirt as well, it wasn't like she really had to worry about it showing up on her coat all that much, scratching around for any rocks of interest. "If we don't find any here, isn't there a place close by that is pretty rocky and gravelly? Not far enough to get us in trouble though, I think. If we're lucky, there may be some hiding in all the normals stones."

Mel’s tail did a little dance when her sister agreed to search for another pretty pebble. She shook the brightly-colored long hairs away from her eyes and started digging close to Ru but the task was apparently not as easy as she’d anticipated. And she managed to send a lot of dirt into her sister digging spot without even noticing.
“I don’t see anything good.” She was clearly disappointed, holding in her paws a tiny dark rounded pebble. Interesting, perhaps, but not nearly as pretty as the heart-shaped rock. “We could go there! If we go now, we might be back before anyone notices it… Do you think we should tell anyone where we’re going? Mom… or maybe Bagrat?” She didn’t think their brother would accompany them but it would probably be enough that someone knew where the two young girls had ran off to before anyone worried. That's what a good banu did, right?

The youngster didn't mind her sister's accidental shower of dirt. She stifled a little giggle as she dug on. If they were lucky, there would be another heart stone out here in the open. Unfortunately, after a little while of fruitless digging, it looked as if it wasn't so.
Looking over to her sister, Ru gave a little pout before smiling to Mel at her enthusiasm over her suggestion. "Yeah! I bet we could!" She paused and gave a thoughtful hum. "Let's tell Bagrat. If we tell Mom, she might as why we're wanting to go over there and I wouldn't feel right lying to her. It'd ruin the surprise if we had to tell her! It's not like we're asking to leave and I think, I hope, that telling Bagrat will be enough. Yeah?" She finished with a little nod. If they told their brother, they'd still be good little banu, right? Their brother was a boy and banu weren't supposed to go off without telling their Pad or a male relation where they were going. Even if he didn't accompany them, he'd still know where they were going and Ru didn't think they'd be gone for too long.

Mel noticed rather suddenly that her sister seemed to be a little dirty. Honestly, that wasn’t very proper! She considered telling her sister just that but the dark brown girl feared that such honesty might dampen the mood a little when they seemed to be having so much fun. Still, she didn’t want to go back to the den with dirty paws and an even dirtier sister… what if someone saw them?
“You’re right, we can’t tell mom. Ok! Let’s tell Bagrat!” It made sense that they didn’t ask their mother – Mel wouldn’t like lying to her either. Nadhir was always a little sick so Bagrat could probably be considered the male responsible for the den when daddy wasn’t around. “Hum… after we clean up a bit.”
And with little to no warning, Mel lifted one paw to rub the dirt of her sister’s back. Her own paws would just have to wait!
