Chizoba stared at the tree. It was looking good and climbable today. Every other day he'd looked at it, it just seemed daunting. But today, it looked feasible, even inviting. He took a running head start and launched himself onto the tree trunk.
Sinking his claws in and pulling himself up was harder then it looked. That was for sure. By the time he reached the first branch he had to rest a bit. But wow it was amazing how a few feet made such a big difference in the view. He liked it. He could even see his brother, Chimvi'noga, over the grass from here.
"OI!" He yelled, "I bet you can't climb up here!" Yes, sibling rivalry was going strong.

Chimvi'noga had been lazing. He was young, he was allowed to laze, he thought to himslef. When he was older, he'd be busy and help the pride, and all that, but he was just a cub. He was allowed to be lazy! He hadn't noticed his brother, until he began to climb the tree - or attempt to.
Chimvi thought he should call out congratulations when his brother made it to the first branch, but he didn't. However, his brother sure spotted him. "I bet I can't either," Chimvi called back, sounding amused but he scrambled to his feet to try anyway. He couldn't let his brother beat him! Even if Chimvi didn't actually think he could make it all the way up, he was going to at least try.
Scuttering through the grass, he made it to the base of the tree and launched himself up to the trunk. His claws dug in and he...stayed there. Dangling off the trunk.
Oh no.
"I think my claws are stuck," Chimvi groaned, wiggling against the trunk. Let me go! He thought to the tree, hoping the bark would release his claws.

Chizoba couldn't help but giggle. "Pull yourself up and you'll be able to get your claws out better!" He called down. He hoped Chimvi was strong enough, he was an awfully lazy little cub. "But make sure you hook your claws further up the tree! And use your back legs too, silly!" Chizoba was full of advice, and he hoped Chimvi would make good use of it.
He crouched on his treelimb watching his brother with the occasional giggle. This was just too good. He waved his tail back and forth happily.

Chimvi pouted up at his brother, seemingly upset at his brother's laughter but he wasn't. It was really funny after all. He shoved his back paws under his belly, ending up looking rather foolish with his rump sticking out as he tried to unlatch his claws from the truck. With a loud noise, they unstuck from the bark and he went tumbling down the short distance back to the base of the tree.
He let out an 'omph' as he hit the ground, staring up at his brother in the tree. "Forgot to rehook them," he called out, stating the obvious, with a laugh. He launched himself back to his feet, and threw himself back at the tree, determined to get up to where his brother was.
He got further up the tree this time, and launched himself at the branch his brother was perched on, wiggling as he tried to find a good grip on it.

Chizoba waved his tail in excitement, he was getting up the tree this time, he was sure of it. Watching him fall with such a thunk was funny but he called out encouragingly, "Come on Chimvi! You can do it. I mean I got up here, so can you!"
When Chimvi made a giant leap for his branch he dug his claws into it with one paw and tried to help him up with the other. The impact of his brother sent the branch waving about but he was anchored in well with his claws. "Dig your claws in! Use your back feet!"

Chimvi cast his brother an annoyed look, as if to say 'I know what I'm doing' but he listened to his words and used his back feet to push himself, scrambling quite undignified until he finally tumbled onto the branch his brother perched upon, nearly launching himself straight over and back to the ground. He saved himself with a quick grab at the branch, digging his claws in and keeping himself upright and on the branch.
"Ha! I did it!" Chimvi announced brightly, positively beaming at his brother, though he didn't feel exactly stable up in the tree - it was quite disturbing actually and he unconsciously shifted his belly closer to the branch, out of paranoia of falling.

Chizoba grinned at him happily. "Yeah you did! Good job!" He used his tail to help him balance on the branch. "Think you could do it again?" He asked challengingly as he headed for the next branch up.

Chimvi's face fell dramatically, his eyes wide as he stared at his brother who was headed for the next branch up the tree. "But, I just got up here," he whined lightly, but watched how his brother transferred to the next branch and attempted to mimic him, but in a slower, and far more paranoid fashion.
Wonderful, he'd be immune to the disease but die from falling out a tree, he thought to himself pessimistically, as his claws latched into the next branch and he began to hoist himself up, scrambling in mid air for a moment.
"Are you sure you're not a leopard, brother?" Chimvi queried, just to make sure.

"Heh, you're the one with spots." Not that that really had any ramifications on whether or not one was a leopard, but it was the spirit of the thing. "Lions climb trees too!" He said as he watched his brother get up to the next branch. "As proven by us! Look how far we can see!" He settled on the branch and peered over the lands. What a view.

"We might be able to, but that doesn't mean we should," Chimvi pointed out, still clutching the branch with his claws, though he glanced out when his brother told him to look.
"Wow," he murmured, and longed to sit up and look, but there was no way he was falling out of this tree, so he stayed clutching the branch. "You can see almost everything from here!" Despite being constantly near death in the tree - not that it was new, since the entire pride was constantly 'near death' - the view was really pretty and Chimvi found himself enjoying it, if he forgot about the branch they were on.
Chimvi paused, realising something and he tightened his grip on the branch. "How do we get down?" He asked his brother, sounding faintly sick.

"You're a stick in the mud." Chizoba informed his hesitant brother bluntly. "I like climbing trees." He also enjoyed watching Chimvi forget that he was up a tree and just enjoy the view for a bit. He preened to himself for getting his brother up said tree. It was an achievement as far as he was concerned.
When he was asked how they got down he rewarded his brother with a dare devil grin and answered with a single word. "Jump."

Chivmi didn't deny his 'stick in the mud' label. He didn't like adventurous things. What was the point of being immune - or so he believed - and doing crazy things that would get him killed? It was a waste. Plus, he wasn't ready to die yet and lions were so not meant to climb trees.
This idea was reaffirmed when his brother told him how they were going to get down. His eyes went extremely wide and his jaw dropped slightly. "No way!" Chimvi denied hurriedly. "I'm not jumping from here!"
He hadn't even wanted to climb up in the first place, he thought, staring down to the ground with a sinking feeling in his stomach.
