Welcome to the pride event of the Tuait-Tekem!

The star Sopdet has risen in the night sky over the desert once more and the river Chione is starting to rise with it. This signifies that the summer season of Shemu is ending and the new year, called Wep-Renpet, is starting in the Tuait'Tekem lands. The next season is the season of Akhet, where the river rises and enriches the land (which will in turn bring lush vegatation and plenty of game to the lands in the season of Peret, before Shemu comes again).

However, before Akhet arrives, there are five days inbetween the old year and the new year. On these five days, it is said destinies manifest and that gods are born/renewed... and the pride parties! The past couple of years since the pride began to flourish there have only been private celebrations of this but this year their leader Muroki wants to reintroduce the traditional festival. This means feasting, stories, song and dancing for all. ICly the three season calendar is nothing new to the Tuait'Tekem but this is the first time we've used it OOCly (as SoA RP in many ways is timeless). If the event ends up a success we may use it again!

There'll be a second event thread created for the pride proper once this giveaway is over, including a new rank becoming available and a plot/IC events for members to sign up for.

For the lions in this thread, they have arrived in their original homeland at this time on a pilgrimage. Their group dates from around the time of the plague and the start of the trouble with the vultures - the former queen Aset-nusu sent The Elder out of the lands with some others to keep them safe.

They have lived a wandering life out in the rogue lands. Several of the older members, including the parents of most of the lions present have died. Several younger members have abandoned the way of the pride. These however are a group who have stuck together and stuck to the old ways.

They expected to come to the Tuait'Tekem to simply gaze upon the temple, which they believed to be empty of life, and instead found they have found the pride proper. Their arrival at this happy time is said to be a sign of good fortune by the Tuait'Tekem pride. But what do the new arrivals themselves think about finding the pride...?

.[ Rules ].

• Be nice to others! This event is supposed to be for fun. Being rude, discouraging others, stealing from other's entries and such like behaviour may cause entries to be disqualified.
  
• The pets being given away in this event are to be members of the Tuait'Tekem pride. They have to stay in the pride. We are allowed to rehome them if you decide to have them leave the pride in the future.
  
• In the upcoming event, we'd like the winners to each RP at least once in the next three months. This is not much to ask so please don't enter if you won't even RP them once.
  
• This is not so much a rule as a guideline. Egyptian based names are preferred (there's a language guide here to help construct names and also names here) for the lions given away but any African names will do. We'd prefer Egyptian/African names please.
  
• These characters are in many ways left blank - this is so you can have fun inventing personalities for them and some freedom with their histories! However, these are some facts we'd like you to keep. The Elder is infertile as she is too old to breed now. The Related pair are related. The entire group has lived and travelled together. They all considered The Princess to be, well, their princess.
  
• Customs to be sponsored can be submitted until the end of March, the Major Customs Month. Currently no more will be okayed until the 24th of March but they can still be submitted.
  
• The character contests will end on Sunday 20th Thursday 24th of March at 9pm GMT.
  
• You can enter for as many lions you want, with the exception of the storytellers where you can only enter for the male OR the female (not both).

Your grandmother was called Pesdjentiu and she was the cousin of the king Baakir'jua. Everyone knew that Baakir'jua lost his mind and was half gone with the plague and his queen Aset-nusu was sickening as well. All his siblings, other wives and all his heirs were either dead or dying when Pesdjentiu left with the group you and yours are descended from. That meant you were the last of royal Tuait'tekem blood. All your life you have been the Princess, the future Queen and the hope of royalty ruling the Tuait'tekem again one day.

Except now you've rejoined the pride proper and you've learnt that the sister of king Baakir'jua, Kwaheri, managed to save her son Muroki before she died. He was counted among the dead in your group's history - but he's King! His claim to the throne, as nephew of the previous king, is stronger than yours and he's established royalty. He has sixteen heirs, princes and princesses both.

Which means...you are no longer The Princess. You're not even a princess. Muroki welcomes you as nobility and (though the blood relationship is actually more distant) would call you his cousin. But what do you feel about this? How do you feel about becoming nobility rather than royalty? Are you happy to loose the pressure of being The Princess and ready to create a new life for yourself? Or are you unhappy or angry or wishing the group had never stepped paw back into the Tuait'tekem lands...? Do you have any schemes regarding the throne?

This pair call each other father and daughter but by blood, they're actually uncle and niece. The male adopted the female and is legally regarded as her father. Everyone in their group knows this as the groups been travelling together for longer than the female's been alive. She's only just lost her lock of youth and become an adult.

But how did their relationship end up like this? Was it a brother of his who fathered her or was his sister her mother? Where are her birth parents? And what is their relationship like? Is it a good one or a bad one? Do they call each other father and daughter out of affection or only because that's their legal relationship? Will they stick together now they're in the main pride or take this as a chance to split up?

.[ The Storytellers ].

These two have something in common. In their group, they've always been highly valued for carrying the heart of their culture with them, for they both know many stories of the Tuait'tekem, their histories, myths and fables (these can be stories their owners create or retooled Ancient Egyptian stories ie. The Wandering Goddess).

They're going to be the first two of a new rank within the pride, the Storyteller rank, which is midway between Scribe and Artisan. Their job? Telling those stories to all who want to hear them at festivals and in the normal evenings, and occasionally visiting the classrooms to teach them to the next generation.

Besides their love of stories and their new rank they are blank slates. Please note we will ask you to host ONE storytelling ORP before three months is up - this is the only RP requirement for them. If you can't RP once within three months, please don't enter.

You are an elderly lioness. You were a young adult when the plague first struck and the vultures started to prey on the weak as well as desecrate the dead. You heard about the first of the slaves being taken. You were with Pesdjentiu, grandmother of The Princess, when she fled the pride. You've seen the faithful stay with you while the unfaithful left the group. You've seen a generation grow to adulthood, new lives born and old ones ending...You have endured.

And now you're walking again the halls you played in during your own youth, can worship again at the shrines, can visit the classroom you learnt in as a cub - though your family den now belongs to a young family.

How does that make you feel? Are you caught up in your memories of the past? And what do you think of the remade Tuait'tekem? What do you think about the current pride - where rogues are allowed, where commoners and nobility mix, where there are many lions of unnatural colours (which used to be a rare trait like your own purple)? Or do you focus on how the religion and main customs are preserved and celebrated? Do you like this jumble of old customs and new? Are you happy the pride survives in some form but have reservations? What about the fact that gods, the netjeri, live amongst the pride now as they had almost entirely stopped doing when the plague struck? (These are just some things to consider in your answer!)

This month is major customs month in SoA. One of the pride owners Successful Edit has been saving and will help pay towards SOME custom lions, provided those customs are headed for the Tuait'tekem pride. The maximum gold we'll give you is 300k, which is almost enough for an adult lion and over half the price of a growing cub - this is so we can give out as much gold as possible.

If you want some of the pride gold to go towards a character, simply fill out the form below for that character. We'll reply to let you know if we'll sponsor that character - there'll be around five or six of them. You can post that character in the major customs thread and if you get them (which is up to the colourists), we'll send you the 300k towards them!

If the pride gold runs out before all the characters we're sponsoring are customed, we'll post an announcement in this thread/PM those who have not yet got their character via customs. We're sorry but the gold is not endless...luckily we have a spare lion here! Funny enough he's golden too. Those with who don't end up with sponsored lions will be entered in a raffle for the lion above. If ALL the sponsored characters are won, we'll give the lion away another way.

Characters you want sponsored can be members of this group who have been travelling with The Elder, The Princess et all if you'd like. They can be of rogue blood or Tuait'tekem blood. They should not be evil (ie. rapists, kidnappers, murderers, violent) but they can be grumpy and mean spirited.

You can also just custom a character and pay for them yourself, in which case they obviously don't have to be approved by us - but you could still have them be a part of the group if you'd like! Ditto for lions who already exist, be they a blank slate who could always have travelled with them or a rogue who joined the group under The Princess before they found the main pride. Just post in this thread so we know they exist.
