Azar'bijan was still much the same as he had been as a youth; a bit of a bully who carried around a rather hefty ego. He'd mellowed a little when his kids had been young - else face the wrath of Ursa for teaching them bad manners - but now that they were grown and he had the den to himself again, he was reverting back to his foolhardy ways.
He was a good Guard, no one could deny that, but he still had the habit of teasing others and baiting them into fights for his own amusement. Sadly, his overconfidence was still there, meaning that he normally lost as many brawls as he won. If he lost, he brooded. For days. If he won...well you'd never hear the last of it.
Today was one of those days he was off duty, sharing a rota with his fully-fledged son Heti. The boy was good and much like his father, much to the disgruntlement of any who might not take fondly to teasing. Anyway, since he had some time off, Azar'bijan was stalking the dunes, looking for someone he could bait into a fight. After all, it was both fun and useful!

Chaka spent most of his time training, it was something he enjoyed doing- and there wasn't a whole lot else to do if there was nothing going on around the desert that required the attention of the soldiers. He wasn't the only one who trained a lot but he put pretty near no effort into being social. Sometimes he'd watch the other members of the pride, but that was about it- except his family, but that was largely due to the fact he worked so closely with his sister. Shisa was not around that afternoon and so he was off on his own. He didn't have anything in mind for himself so he didn't seem to be following any particular path- and he wasn't really paying all that much attention to anybody he happened to wander by, Azar included.

1st Move: Bide
Oh and there was his prey! Of the orange and black kind! Wasn't that the annoying lion who'd ruined his fun teasing that gold cub all that time ago? Yes, yes it was! What was his name? Cho? Char? Something like that. Ha, well Azar would show him! He was no longer a bumbling cub (or so he liked to think) and he was bigger now! Besides that, there was no one else around to gang up on him. Perfect!
With a huff, he announced his approach with a short roar and picked up speed, lifting his head and tail with pride. "You! Duel with me. Now."
Oh, this was going to be fun...

Move: Bide!
Pausing in his walk, Chaka turned to see who it was that was calling out to him. He recognized Azar immediately and grimaced. Not only was he seeming very intent and insistent on dueling, he wasn't someone Chaka would want to just brush off and ignore- though the vague idea of what it might be like to lose to him did cross his mind. He was only a guard but that didn't mean the outcome was set, Chaka knew better from experience.
So they were going to have to duel.
"Done picking fights with the helpless?" he asked, turning himself about to properly face his opponent.

2nd Move: Miss
"Don't know." Azar remarked with a smug grin. "I rather considered you to be helpless? Or was that hopeless...?" He laughed - amused at his own 'joke' - and, without another word, leapt into action, closing the gap between them.
With another roar, he slowed at the last moment, putting the weight onto his hind-legs so that he could lift his forepaws off of the ground. In another moment he was lashing out with one front paw, attempting to give the other a 'cuff' across the snout.
A predictable move indeed...

Chaka didn't laugh at the joke- and he managed to resist rolling his eyes at it. He couldn't afford the distraction, he hadn't actually fought Azar seriously or ever seen him fight, he couldn't make judgments based on previous experience. Fortunately, he could have spared the second as a roar gave away Azar's plan to attack and Chaka was ducked down and on his way out of Azar's path before he even reared up.
"Hopeless indeed," he said, putting a several feet between them and starting to circle around. He chose not to attack just yet.

3rd move: hit
"Pah!" Azar gathered his feet beneath him again and recovered from the failed attack looking a little miffed. If he had hit, the amusement would have kept him laughing for weeks! Oh well, there was still time to change all that. He wasn't exsactly losing and Chaka seemed a little hesitant to make a move.
What was he waiting for? Azar to reveal a weak spot? Ha! Not likely!
"Take this!" He launched himself at the circling lion, intent on tackling the other head on. Azar always was one to barrel in head first.

Move: Bide!
In what he realized was a bad move, he didn't seem ready to react when Azar came lunging at him- caught somewhere between watching his opponent and deciding what it was he ought to do. He reacted too late and soon he was bowled over, something that didn't happen with quite this amount of force very often- he seemed to spar most with Shisa and she was smaller than he was.
Thinking of his most recent duel with Shisa, he formulated a plan and chose to wait before acting, again. Part of him hoped his inaction would either infuriate Azar or make him overconfident- either could help Chaka.

4th move: Miss
Feeling rather accomplished, Azar could not help but grin smugly as he watched Chaka move away, increasing the gap between them again. But...why was he not attacking? Was he too scared to even try? Hmpf! He was glad that he was putting on a rather good show, but was this other trying to make a mockery of him?
He growled, tail lashing behind him.
"Why won't you attack? Afraid of missing and making a fool of yourself? It could happen, I don't deny it, but at least make me feel I've worked a little bit for my victory."
With that, he charged again, putting force into his next strike. However, in his haste to land a hit to follow up his statement, he lost his footing a little and the strike was badly aimed.

Move: Bide!
Watching Azar react to Chaka's avoidance was encouraging enough to keep the black and orange lion from doing anything immediately. He was getting annoyed, and Chaka could see it. Knowing what he did about Azar- or imagining he hadn't changed all that much since they were cubs if he was really here picking a random fight like this- he didn't particularly mind how it looked for him to be waiting.
"It could happen, but I learn from my mistakes," he said, tensing as Azar headed his way and moving quickly away when he saw him stumble, "Do you?"

5th move: hit
"No need." Azar quipped. "I don't make mistakes. As you can see, I'm the lion with the upper-hand here. What are you again, a soldier? What do they teach you in soldier school, exactly? Looks like I took the better career path."
He lunged again and this time his footing was true. A fore paw swung up to meet with his 'opponent'.

Move: BIDE. wtf.
When Azar declared that he didn't need to learn from his mistakes because he never made any- and then tried to mock Chaka's training- Chaka lost his focus and snorted a laugh at the red lion. He could have kept laughing but it cost him the chance to evade Azar's next attack and the a large paw to the face cut him off.
He ducked down, far too late to avoid the attack but a protective instinct- and then he backed up. It shut him up but it didn't ruin his mood or perspective.
"If you have the upper paw here, how is it I've done nothing and you haven't won?"

Azar growled, clearly infuriated now by Chaka's refusal to fight back. "Tough words for one who refuses to fight!" He snapped, in a bad mood now. "Well, thanks for wasting my time. Next time I want a challenge, I'll go find your sister, huh? She might at least be a better fighter than you!"
He stomped a paw against the ground and growled, shaking his mane and backing off, ensuring there was enough distance between them before turning his back. After all, he'd never live it down if Chaka attempted a last minute sneak attack - though how dishonourable would that be!!

Shaking his mane out once Azar showed he intendeed to walk off, Chaka had the opportunity to really enjoy a laugh at the other's behavior. He kept his chuckle quiet but it was unmistakable- especially since Azar wouldn't look away until there was a safe distance between them. He knew Azar had a point- but he had had a point, too. If he wasn't doing anything, Azar should have been able to gain the advantage.
"All right then, you have a good day," he called after him, shaking his head and watching him go. An interesting enough blip in the monotony of the afternoon, too bad it was over so fast.
Fin.
