ι αм нαяu мєkαgαмι And I guess I'm pleased to be serving you today. -----☜♥☞----- I am not what I consider a "Furry". I have played SL and tried bunches of animals, but none of them would ever feel like "This is it." I find the furry world awesome, and lets just say I don't have an 'animal of choice' for lack of a better term, what's that make me? O.o I'm kinda new to the whole 'fursona' thing, so what's it make me, if I don't have an animal? Like I said, I find the concept cool, I find furry characters awesome/hot/cute, etc, just a bit confused what I'd classify as o-o; -----☜♥☞----- 僕~わ~日~目鏡 そして、私はあなたに今日のサービスを提供できることを嬉しく思うよ。

If I refrain from being ecchi..
One thing I remember doing when I was younger was thinking about what animal I could best relate with. After some thinking I came to the conclusion of "Feline".. Which worked out good for me. But then (through some cheap strategizing) came up with the "decent" idea of having a 'copy ability' become available to my fursona. What it basically did was allow me to me to get to 'know' a fur, and chose to have their attribute(s) effect mine at will.
No big idea on where I was trying to go with this, maybe something like,'When you feel yourself leaning towards a particular species, try not to feel as though it's permanent'.. Or something. I'unno. >w<;
.. I refrain from being myself..

There are shapeshifters in the Furry fandom. And you don't need a Fursona to be a Furry. Being a Furry just means you're a fan of the whole idea, you're a part of the fandom. Whether it be in the art, the concept, the fursuiting, etc. The ONLY qualification for being a Furry is that you like it, in some way, shape, or form.
Now, for your Fursona... If you really want one, you don't have to choose right away. Look at some of your more admirable traits (ones you like yourself) and go from there. You can also have multiple Fursonas; I myself have two. Or, if you cannot absolutely decide and are prone to changing your Fursona often, go with being a shapeshifter (also, with this option, you can change as frequently as you want, but still have "favorite" species. So, you can change whenever, but you're more prone to be a canine or some such). Get as wild with it as you want. It's you; be who or what you want to be! :3

Êverything they said.
If you don't have a fursona, I'm quite sure that makes you human. But that's just what I think. :3

I think everyone seems to be misinterpreting what furry is. Being furry just means you're a member of the fandom. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to have a fursona. I know plenty of furries who don't.
Just because you don't have a fursona doesn't mean you're not a furry. It just means you don't have a fursona. Simple as that.

As others have already said, you don't need a fursona in order to be a furry. Being a furry is just bring a fan of anthro.
I used to change my animal a lot, I used to be a fox, then cat, next was a squirrel, then I became a wolf (and felt that it's been overused, no offense wolf lovers) then I went with dog as a German Shepherd Poodle mix finally a husky poodle.
I felt that I picked the right animal for me now that I have not change my animal in a long time. I like husky poodle. cool
edit; Oh and on a note, just because someone have a fursona doesn't make them furry. Here's an example I found from someone very silly:
Quote: I love fursonas. Who doesn't? They're cute animals that reflect on your inner self, and plus, you can brag about it online, create them in your own image.... I'm even making one myself. Maybe a cat, or a fox-type thing. But the only thing that irks me is the cult behind this awesome internet phenomena: furry fandom. They dress up in stupid outfits, enter conventions, and yiff. It's DISGUSTING. I mean, come on!!! Two anthromorphic animals in bed! EWWWWW!!!! *vomits* Making your own alter-ego is fun and stuff, but they're going way too far, and they're giving us fursona-fans a bad name. Furrie Fan: Hey, do you have a fursona? Normal Person: Yeah. It's fun to make them up and put them in stories. Furrie Fan: OMG yeah! It's awesome!!! Do you go to conventions? NP: Um... no.... FF: DIE THEN!!! THEY'RE AWESOME! NP: Um... okay...? *backs away slowly* FF: Hey where you going? I wanna show you this cool yiff site on the internet!! My mink is hot! NP: EWWWWW!!!! GET AWAY FROM ME YOU FREAK!

I'd still consider the "normal person" a Furry for simply liking Fursonas. XD
