Nestled in the far corner of the fourth floor, the Alchemy class can be found behind a large oak door revealing a dimly lit and brief tunnel passage way which leads into the rest of the wide circular room. Tremendous windows line the walls to give birth to the section dedicated to herbology, which also lined the walls with flowering beds filled with a myriad of plants blossoming in the sunlights dazzling rays. Broad desks occupied the center and faced the professor's desk which sat directly in between the windows and the children; two cauldrons reside upon the wooden desks, adjacent to their wooden chair counter parts. Traditionally, the hispanic alchemist could be found tending to the foliage, or otherwise seated behind his desk.

With his wand in hand, the hispanic alchemist busied his free time by pointing the end of his wand to each blossoming flower in turn located along the walls in their ornately designed flower beds, some were mundane, others were magical, but only few of which could be found in Herbology books. Juan had been noted on the brief reducing numbers of magical students occupying the halls, but hoped, that it would not effect his classroom as much as other professors had warned him. Still, the front door was left wide open, for the students to file in, if there were any, that is.

With a flick of his wand, the first verse of the Emerald Tablet appeared on the chalk board.

Quote:
Tis true without lying, certain most true.
That which is below is like that which is above that which is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing.
And as all things have been arose from one by the mediation of one: so all things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation.
The Sun is its father, the moon its mother,
The wind hath carried it in its belly, the earth its nurse.
The father of all perfection in the whole world is here.
Its force or power is entire if it be converted into earth.
It ascends from the earth to the heaven again it descends to the earth and receives the force of things superior and inferior.
By this means ye shall have the glory of the whole world thereby all obscurity shall fly from you.
Its force is above all force. For it vanquishes every subtle thing and penetrates every solid thing.
From this are and do come admirable adaptations whereof the means is here in this
Hence I am called Hermes Trismegist, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world.
That which I have said of the operation of the Sun is accomplished and ended.

When no one showed up to class, Juan left the room quietly and shut the door closed behind him.

Angel entered the classroom early this morning, he moved like smoke towards the arm chair behind his desk and plopped himself down upon its cushions before he rose his legs to stretch them across the desks wooden surface. If he knew getting into trouble would have landed him in a classroom without students, he would have tried his search much sooner. No one had bothered to appear in his class last week for the introductory, he wondered if it would change today. With a lethargic flick of his wand, words began to scribble themselves on the chalk board beside his desk.

Quote:
The Philosopher's Stone was a man-made, blood-red stone with magical properties. It could be used to create the Elixir of Life, which extended the drinker's lifespan, as well as transform any metal into pure gold. The stone was believed to mystically amplify the user's knowledge of alchemy so much that anything was attainable.

When Juan awoke that morning, it was with a determination to start this year better than the last. Although, he mused, it wouldn't take much to beat that. His first year in teaching had passed on uneventfully enough, but he had at least been able to take the time to tweak his lesson plans to better suit himself, and the tiny occupancy of students he seemed to generate.

"Welcome, students, I am Professor Juan Angel Amorocho, and I understand that my surname may be difficult for some of you to pronounce, so, don't hesitate to just call me professor, or Professor Angel." He introduced himself swiftly as he flicked back curtains from their positions shielding the class from the sun. "This year, we will be going over the Philosopher's Stone, what it is, and what it can do. Also, we're going to learn a quick potion that had proved its use countlessly over the course of alchemical history,

"Why, you might ask? Well, because it's simple, anything is possible with genius and a shred of luck. Also, I think it might be important to note that whomever can brew the best potion may keep a little vial for himself."
He quipped up with a bemused smirk upon his lips. "But before we get into that, I would like for you to, one by one, stand and introduce yourselves, and if you can tell me one fact about the Philosopher's Stone then I will reward you some house points, as well." He finished and then cast an inquisitive gaze amidst the students throughout.

When finally, each student had exclaimed their peace, he stood from his perched position above his desk to stride to the front of the classroom. ”Moving on, today we will be learning how to concoct the Baleful Brew, which is a powerful potion in the sense that it can alter the very fine fabrications of this universe… probability and chance.

“If concocted correctly, this potion can strike a man with lightening on a clear and sunny day, or, you can even win the lottery, and in a lot of senses it's a lot like Felix Felicis, but since it isn't entirely good luck it's not as highly sought after, or as expensive. The possibilities truly are endless, however, which is why, under no circumstances, is this potion to be taken lightly under wizarding law. This potion, along with many others, is to be only distributed and recognized under regulations of the Ministry of Magic... For obvious reasons, of course. Now, turn to page one hundred sixty-four in your text books and begin brewing, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.”

page 164

Baleful Brew- The very fabrication of chance and probability are altered with the use of this potion upon the drinker. Due to limited research, it is only known that things that shouldn’t happen should, and things that never happen do. In short, the drinker may win the lottery, or fail a test in a class they’ve never failed before, but there is never a guarantee and there are no direct side effects.. The possibilities are endless. But, thus far, there doesn't seem to be any lasting side effects aside from the obvious effects, and a slight case of itchy dry eyes.

3 grams of Dried Asphodel leaves
1 ounce crushed Wormwood
1 handful of Aconite Flowers
1 dash of Antimony
4 Doxy Eggs
2 Dragon Livers
5 Eel eye
5 1/3 grams of Dried Venomous Tentacula leaves
12 pints of Syrup of Hellebore
6 fl. Oz of Salamander Blood
11 grams of Scurvy Grass
2 grams of Lovage Flowers
1 milligram of Powdered Unicorn Horn

1. Pour Salamander Blood into your empty cauldron and set to boil. After precisely six minutes, drop each Dragon Liver in, one at a time, while slowly mixing in, then let sit and boil.
2. Mix and stir Dried Asphodel Leaves with the Dried Venomous Tentacula leaves in a mortar and crush until contents are near powder form, and then stir into cauldron (excersize extreme caution when doing so, and rubber gloves.)
3. The thick red and pungent potion should take on a thinner, smoother texture now.
4. Stir clockwise as need be, and only stir counterclockwise eighteen strokes, at a time, at the most.
5. Crack in the Doxy Eggs and sprinkle in one handful of Aconite Flowers.
6. The potion should then immediately morph into a deep and vibrant violet color, wafting fumes of pink hues.
7. Stir in one ounce of Crushed Wormwood, and only six pints of Syrup of Hellebore
8. Allow contents to boil for over a minute before stirring in five Eel Eyes.
9. Then, combine Scurvy Grass and Lovage Flowers in a separate basin; add the final six ounces of Syrup of Hellebore into the mixture and stir the ingredients until the solidity of the grass and flowers have melted into the compound. Then add to the cauldron while stirring counterclockwise.
10. Finally, add a dash of Antimony and the Powdered Unicorn Horn. The potion will then spark with an illuminated glow if done correctly.

Strolling into the classroom earlier than he normally has been, Juan Angel Amorocho cast a silent spell causing text to appear on the chalkboard at the front of the classroom as he glided inside to take a seat at his desk and wait for the class to be over. All year, he only had one student signed up for this period, and all year, that one student hadn't bothered to show up at all.

Another year, another empty classroom, or so he assumed, Angel had been nonchalantly perusing the paperwork cluttered at his desk, thumbing through parchments of rules and regulations and expectations until he had finally found the object of his search: his class roster list. This year, there were only three names scrawled across the parchment, but, it was better than the last year. Whatever the reason for his decline in students, he was sure he would have to amend them. Moving on, Angel stood to properly write out his name and the lesson he had prepared for the day. When the clock struck twelve, his wand had been brandished to swish the door ajar to allow the students to file in. ”Ah, hola y bienvenidos,” Angel began in Spanish for a fault, and continued in English. ”Welcome to Alchemy, I am professor, Juan Angel Amorocho, I understand it may be a bit difficult to pronounce, as it is, you may call me Professor Angel….

“Now, today we are going to begin the year by briefly learning about the Philosopher’s Stone and its properties. The Philosopher’s Stone can be used to create the Elixir of Life, to transform base metals into pure gold, and, power, but, only one stone created has ever been recorded into existence. created by the hands of Nicholas Flamel, and, Albus Dumbledore....

“Now, who can tell me the crucial events leading up to the destruction of the Philosopher’s Stone in the year nineteen-ninety two?”

Jessica Sassareth

Slytherin, Third Year

User Image Jessica quietly entered the Alchemy classroom, recognizing the professor's voice but not quite placing where she's heard it. The pale redhead gives her professor of olive complexion a polite bow, warmly greeting him, "Good afternoon, Professor Amorocho. Pleasure to meet you, Sir." Then, the pale redhead took a seat and raised her hand when Professor's Amorocho's question was offered.

When she was recognized by her instructor, Jessica began, "When it is was learned that the Dark Lord Voldemort was somehow attempting to acquire the Philosopher's Stone to fully restore himself back to life, the Headmaster of the time, Professor Albus Dumbledore helped Nicholas Flamel to hide the Stone here at Hogwarts -- using several traps and careful enchantments to keep the Stone hidden. Voldemort had attached his essence to Professor Quirinus Quirrell. Quirrell attempted several times to acquire the Stone for his master, failing to accomplish his task. On one failed attempt, Quirrell had let loose a troll in the school to use as a distraction.

Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ronald Weasley found out the plot to steal the Stone, and set out to stop the thief -- not knowing who it was at the time. After Granger and Weasley helped Mr. Potter past the cerebus dog and two lethal traps, Potter confronted Quirrell and Voldemort with led to Quirrell's demise and thwarting the Dark Lord."

Slip out the back before they know you were there
and at the worst you'll see nobody cares,
you don't want to be around when it all goes down...

William Dante Nott the Third

Drained; it was the only way to explain the withering form of the heir of Nott as he skulked quietly within the classroom, seemingly sinking into himself, breaking beneath the weight of some unseen force and tension. A stern look always adorned his features, and it was rare if any would ever see the faint dimples that once used to protrude at either round cheek in the course of a smile. It was rare that he ever found the chance to smile. But, the more he skulked, the more aware he became of how much others seemed to notice the difference in his demeanor. He would have to find a way to fix that… A distraction, he supposed.

Gliding down onto the first available seat near the center of the room, he offered a simple acknowledging nod towards Jessica before delivering another one towards the professor of alchemy. He retrieved his belongings, a self-inking quill and parchment and began to hastily scribble down the objective of the lesson.

”Brilliantly done,” Professor Amorocho decreed with the snap of his fingers, striding along further from the chalkboard to stand in the center of the room with the billow of his loose black robes rippling above the contrast to his crisp blue button-up and tie. ”Ten points to Slytherin.”

”The Philosopher’s Stone was a very crucial ingredient in the hopes to create an Elixer of Life, which, can grant an extended lifespan for as long as the user drinks it, and, it can also be used to restore a witch or wizards soul that may have been broken apart with the means of a horcrux.

“When the stone was set to be hidden in Hogwarts, it had been hidden within an enchanted item, the Mirror of Erised. Albus Dumbledore was a famed alchemist who truly believed in the pursuit of enlightenment and the magical importance of the pure of heart. The mirror, truly a brilliant stroke of genius, would always reflect what was desired most, because of that, it could drive men to madness, simply because, they wanted to see it come fruition.

“The Philosopher’s Stone was hidden inside of this mirror, and even though the possessed Quirinus Quirrell desired the stone more than anything else, he would never have been able to acclaim it. Mister Harry Potter desired the stone, utmost, for one and one only reason: to protect the lives of those he most cared about. Although at the time, he had been led to believe it was the previous Potions Master Professor Snape, his heart had always known that he was destined to keep it safe.

“The heart is a very powerful matter, and heavily researched in the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic, for good reason… And no doubt, it took vigorous spellwork for Dumbledore to have been able to safely hidden the stone in such a precarious manner.

“Ah, I do believe that concludes the lesson for today, does anybody have any questions about what we’re you’re going to be learning in alchemy this year? I realize today’s first lesson wasn’t exactly an introductory course, and, I had decided it best to leave those questions for last—better time to absorb, if you will.”

Phi had opened the door with a larger wave of strength and vigor than she had intended in her rush. Coming directly from her first class of Study of Ancient Runes, her trek to find yet another new class from her electives had done well to take her down mistaking corridors in confusion. Finally, however slightly late, the fiery Ravenclaw pinpointed the desired door that waited to reveal one of the most interesting classes she could hope to have available to her in Hogwarts.
The resulting mix of both excitement for the class, physical rush of her hopes to not be late, and the unexpected lightness of the door that was not characteristic of every other found in the enchanted school, had led the short redhead to pull on the door handle with unnecessary force. To both her surprise and the fortunately light sound of the hinges protesting, the emanating sound of the tug left the door crying out only in whisper. Glancing up once the second passed required for her recovery of the unexpected, Phi noticed she had in fact entered slightly late. Two students were already present, and by the teachers readiness to ask a question, she seemed the last one expected in the ranks. The redhead caught the Professors' eye momentarily with what she assumed what her sudden entrance, but was most likely the blindingness of her hair. She bowed deeply, with eyes clearly reflecting her guilt and promise of the event to never be repeated in her lateness.
Eyeing a possible seat, she was pleased to find one near the front of the class and facing the teacher well that was also within three steps of where she stood omnipotently in the doorway. Sitting quickly and retrieving her things likewise. The offered question and the response of a raised hand gave her initiative to finally glance at her two other classmates. Seeing Jessica, Phi felt no surprise as the girl seemed to be in almost all her classes plus electives. The red hair was brilliant, but seemed to lack a healthy gloss. It was more strawberry than the Hell's Fire that Phi's was and it made the girl feel again like there was some alien explanation for the incredible hair sprouting from her head. Perhaps it was like Allen Rhoodes - she could have tripped into a color changing spell that permanently gave her the blazing locks.
Glancing again, her molten eyes widened and her mask set itself instinctively as her sight grazed the golden one of Tay Nott. Instantly, Phi re-faced the front and blinked, processing the implication and opportunity the boy's presence meant. It seemed none of her friends had joined this course sans her; no one had spoken of it when they conversed with their electives. It was safe for the redhead to say she would be placed alone in this snake pit.
However no fear seemed to crawl over her and clench her insides as she expected. IN fact, in the place where she would normally feel the chill of the foreboding threat, she instead felt a hard warmth that she could only name with the word of resolve. Neither Ronyo nor Colton (not even Jane) were her to stand in front of her and act like shields as they always had. There was nothing before her to protect her except her outer flesh. Instead of feeling naked, vulnerable - she instead felt balanced. The redhead glanced again back towards the Nott boy who seemed even more beaten and paled than he had previously. She watched him with an even glance that lasted a second, understanding that things were finally fair. She had no out armor just as he never had. They could finally try their hand at this trail and judgment without much expected leverage.

The class ended soon with the Ravenclaw having kept her silence throughout. Mind in whirls of thoughts and decisions and imaginable visions of events as her hand and arm naturally wrote ever words and sentence recounted by the Alchemy Professor. At the sound of being dismissed, Phi blinked in mild surprise as she reentered the reality she had left completely soon after entering the class and glanced to the teacher seating himself once more at his desk. The redhead gathered her things neatly, placing the strap of her bag on her shoulder and carefully approaching the teacher with a meek smile.
"Professor Amorocho?" The girl's unused accent to her first langue seeping her tone as her tongue prepared to speak in the summer's dialect.
"Yo sólo pregunto si no tenía cuatro senderos en lugar de dos senderos? Cada uno de los núcleo de los profesores de la época crearon un desafiar - de ajedrez para representar a la Transfiguration, una masa de llaves encantados de representar Chamrs y Flying, Devil's Snare de Herbology, y un acertijo y una variedad de pociones para Potions."

It seemed to Jess that Phi was attempting to appologize to Prof. Amorocho for her tardiness. Respectfully, the young Slytherin held up her hand to wait for the alchemy professor to acknowledge her.

An easy-going smile of lethargic grace had rested upon the lips of the professor ever since he had begun his lecture, and it coursed through until the very end. A Hispanic roll bounced off of his tongue every so often, and his brazen copper skin shone under the sunlight’s rays reflecting through the high arched windows upon the back of the half circular room. He noticed notes being taken, and put away as well. He had expected as much, though he cocked a brow at the notice of a young vivid redhead approaching his desk. A familiarity surged forth in her voice, and a bright recognition grew in his dark chocolate eyes as the young Ravenclaw spoke in Spanish. A thoughtful look crossed his mind before he nodded enthusiastically, a brilliant gleam in his smile.

He concluded with a nod. ”Si eso es todo, usted puede ir si así lo desea, lo único que va a responder a las preguntas ahora.”

”Yes?” He inquired, and gestured to the redheaded Slytherin in the back. ”And please, what’s your name?”

Phi brimmed with a glinting smile as the professor returned both her inquiry and use of the Hispanic language with his own. Her hands had found and locked into each behind the small of her back as she bounced on the balls of her feet with slightly childish humour and happiness.
"Muchas gracias señor!" nodding as well as she glanced over her shoulder to see Jess' re-raised hand over head.
Turning back, the last question made Phi smile even brighter, "Phinelia von Ichval. It is a pleasure, Professor Angle." and with a bow and another curt nod, Phi began to exit the classroom with pleasant light in her eyes.

User Image Jess nodded not sure if he wanted her name, Jessica Sassareth, Professor Amorocho. I did have a question about the Philosopher Stone. I understand that it can be used to restore one back to life and to extend one's lifespan. Would it be able to cure ailments and toxins, or would they still be present in the subject?"
