Fen'wei had walked the borders of the simo for what seemed like hours although by the time he got back to his beginning point, a stone he had place upwards in the sand, it hadn't moved that far along the shadow line yet.
He was trying to find a solution.
There were rumors of less water, of potential problems, but his mother was always trying to find different areas to gather prey so that at least the prey species wouldn't dwindle.
If this didn't get better soon, it could get worse very fast.
But how could he help?
Fen'wei was a large boy, bulky with muscle, had a striking white pelt like his father a creamy nose and eyes like his father, but pale creamy tiger stripes like those of his mother.
He figured himself a misfit, he had no striking red upon himself, but found solace in the sands trying to find trinkets and now, trying to find a solution.
He didn't like being alone though, he had a heart, but wondered if his exterior shyed others away from his presence.

Veru was making an escape. These crazy a** lions and their crazy ways and their experiments and their amazonian goddesses and... oh, wait he did like that part. Maybe he was partially crazy with fever. It was likely, because by the time he realized he was going anywhere he was somewhere and suddenly not entirely sure of where that was. Troubling.
This was about the point where An would usually come collect him and he'd go back to the med wards. But with the huria now departed for far off lands, escape was becoming a bit too casual. Perhaps they were simply empty threats. He'd grown attached to this pride and its strange, savage people. But trouble was brewing, and Veru saw the lines in the sand. As noble [and sadistic] as Ea might have been, a sick, non-contributing lion was going to be the first to go.
He'd always been pragmatic. It was unfortunate his dreams seemed unfocused, and unhelpful. He probably could have been a god if he'd found a giant cache of water somewhere, out in the sands.
The sick lion sat, panting nervously as he struggled to regain his bearings. North was... was that back to the pride, or away from the pride? And which way did he mean to go? Maybe he'd just go north and leave that to fate. At least there was a half chance of finding water.
But in the distance, the white male noticed another lion pacing about. Being a mostly amiable creature, running seemed out of the question. He staggered forward, announcing himself with a weak call. "You weren't sent to collect me, I hope?" He said with a rather wide smile.

Fen'wei's ears perked when he heard a voice and his eyes fell onto another fairly light colored male which took him off guard. He usually kept to himself, but what lions he did see, at a distance, were mostly red and black, those colors very dominant, now, here before him, was one like himself.
Very pale, light pelted.
But, Fen'wei grew jealous spying the red adornments on the strangers pelt.
Too bad there wasn't a way to permanently mark one's pelt, or that his stripes weren't red.
He wished he was like the sand lizards that could blend. That he could keep his creamy coat for when he liked, and changed to a fiery red at will.
"No," Fen'wei shook his head," Just looking to see if there are any other items I can find along the borders, although, I guess, you count as one of those huh? I'm Fen'wei."

Veru swallowed against the painful tightness in his throat. It was still raw, and the rationing of water hadn't made it easier. He supposed it was a feeling he was going to have to get used to. "An item? Here I thought I was a lion. Didn't know I'd been reduced to that!" he said with a smile. "What sort of items are you looking for? Seems like everyone is out looking for water!"
The white male cleared the gap between them, his pace notably slower than a proper lion should have been. Despite his cheery personality, his head set low on his shoulders. "Even me, I suppose. Here I am, all the way out in the middle of it! The medic will be furious. I'm something of an escaped experiment, you see," he said. Perhaps he was less of a lion then he thought! "But no luck here either."
He sat down on the sand, looking out at the desert rolling behind them. He still wasn't sure exactly which path it was towards the pride. North or... it all looked the same. No wonder no one could find water! "I'm Veru, nice to meet you," his neck craned. "Do you usually run about by yourself out here?"

"I didn't mean that you were an object, just that, oh, never mind," Fen'wei said sighing, dismissing the through from mind. He flicked his tail and kept his eyes on the ground, on the sand. He could feel the wind blowing gently at the back of his legs, now he just needed to see if anything would turn up in the sand.
"They are looking for water, yes, I'm looking for something to try and help," a container, maybe? He had found that strange round thing in the sand, but it was old and fell apart at his touch.
"Nice to meet you Veru, sorry I'm a bit...strange, I am usually out here alone," his ears fell back a little, "I don't do well, talking with others, normally. Crowds, they sometimes bother me."
He blinked and looked at Veru and snorted, "You don't look like a failed experiment to me."

Veru smiled as the lion tried to apologize. It was always nice to meet someone who didn't know him yet. It was very hard for Veru to be serious about anything, even in a life or death situation. Such as it was. "I'm only teasing," he repented. His grin was still toothy. "And...possibly delusional, but that's the fever talking."
The white lion straightened his back, looking over the dunes and the path that this lion must have taken. The sand was breezing about, but he could still see the faint indentations of paw prints in the earth. "Something to help?" He mused. That actually wasn't a half bad idea. He'd seen some of the pride sift water into turtle shells and larger chunks of bone. "Like a jar? Or a shell? You know, they were digging up a lot of that earlier on in some of the dried up waterbeds."
He leaned back. He couldn't remember exactly what had happened once the pride had finished mucking about. That black lioness had taken most of the oddities. "I bet you that guard, Naseera, has a lot of the odd things that were dug up there. I haven't seen her about since then, actually..." He trailed off. Now, it wasn't that Veru pretended to know everyone in the pride. But he did happen to pay attention to attractive females.
He had a vice, shut up.
"We should pay her a visit," the half dead lion intoned. "She's not bad looking either. Figure out what she's doing with all that junk. Its pride property, isn't it?"
When the other lion started to try and apologize, Veru simply clapped him on the head and started down the dune. Apparently he remembered the directions. "I wouldn't worry about it, everyone is a bit strange. Trust me." He chimed. "I wouldn't be worried about crowds though. Nothing innately scary about them. Just take charge and lay down the law."

"Something like that, I tried building something to hold the water, of rocks, if it rained I would think it would pool nicely in it, but it isn't finished, I need more pieces." Fen'wei looked about the sand and didn't see anything popping through yet, no, today might not be a good day for scavenging.
"I found this other thing, I don't know what it was made of, looked brown, but was round like a turtle shell, but wasn't. It was perfect, but when I touched it, it crumbled. I thought I saw another one, but I didn't get to it in time before the wind buried it, this one looked green, almost black."
When Veru started talking about this female, Fen'wei gulped.
"Umm," he stuttered, "should we go and just bother her? I don't know, don't you think we should wait, maybe we should wait."
Truth be told, he was also scared of talking to girls.
When Veru touched his head Fen'wei stood there dazed for a minute and watched Veru start moving. He flicked his tail and smiled.
"You even know which way to go to get back?"

"Not particularly. I may still be delirious. You'll probably want to come along, lest I die out here. Then you'd have to apologize to all the sad firekin ladies for me..." he said, continuing his half-blind march across the dune. To be fair, he was going in partially the right direction. Partially because he frequently made erratic, zigzag like stumbles.
"Ive seen some strange things like that before," Veru admitted. "there were things like that in the mud. Then that Naseera horded them all away. I say it's fine enough reason to pay her a visit!"
Perhaps picking up on his hesitation, or perhaps simply just being of a one track mind: "You're not afraid of her, are you? She's pretty harmless. I think. I won't pretend to know her, but I've never met a lady that couldn't be charmed." Actually, he had. On several occasions. "maybe she doesn't know what she's sitting on. Coming back to the pride with those water containers could be a big boon! For both of us, even."
He cranes his head back towards him. "She might not want to give then up, however. Better think up a plan to get them off her."

Fen'wei gulped, "Well, I don't know her, so I don't know what to expect."
How could he know how she would react? He'd never met the female! Regardless Fen'wei walked with Veru, he would at least see where this female lived so in case he did need to return, he could.
"I don't really want to fight her for it," dueling, he had to admit, though he was large in stature, was not his strong point.
"I could trade her something for one, wait here."
With that Fen'wei turned and ran in one direction.
He was smart and knew that he couldn't keep his trinkets in one area, if they were found, everything would be gone, so he kept stashes of them. He went to the nearest one, grabbed a few small things and tried his best to wrap them in the tattered cloth they had been buried in. Grabbing the bundle in his mouth he ran back towards Veru.
Least now they had a plan.
Though he knew he would need help with his water system sooner or later.

"Fight her for it?" Veru blinked. Here he was expecting to charm it off her! What was wrong with these sun addled lions? "I love this pride. You all immediately jump to beating each other with rocks! A little smile goes a long way with the ladies. Even great big, amazonian ones!" He supposed it shouldn't have surprised him that they were ready to tear each other apart over the water crisis.
"Or...trade, yes," he continued. "She does seem to like stuff. Although I still think you can keep that and whatever she's got. No reason to part with what might be useful to...us-"
The white lion watched as Fen'wei ran off, digging up something from the ground. He blinked in surprise. Maybe this awkward fellow had more in common with Naseera then he thought! "Ah...yes, I guess that'll do. I have a feeling you'll like this girl. I get the feeling you are on the same wave-length. So to speak." He winced at the thought, and started to limp off into the direction he'd last seen the attractive guard stalking around.
Exactly what she'd been up to since the dig, he couldn't say. He knew she was a new member to the pride, newer even then him. Even though he wasn't technically a member. Could he start looking down on the newbies? He felt like he could. It felt good. Anyways, she was an odd sort. After she'd dug up what she'd been looking for, the guard had all but vanished into the rocky cliffs. Nothing even to say about the current water situation. "It is a bit suspicious..." he trailed off.
After a rather lengthy stroll, mostly due to Veru's stilted pace, they entered the ravine. It was clear someone was making their home here- there was already a strange assortment of objects littering the ground. Skull here, odd box there. Turtle shell. Not a bad one either. "Why don't you poke your head in and see if she's around?" The white lion suggested.

Fen'wei walked with Veru, and he soon realized he had never been this way before. Ravine, since when was there a ravine here? Fen'wei gulped and as they came closer, he noticed all the other trinkets on the ground.
Although Veru might think the objects he grabbed were useful to them, he didn't think so, they were just shiny, so he kept them.
Maybe she liked shiny too?
With Veru's question, Fen'wei dropped the bundle in his mouth and settled it between his forepaws.
"Me, why me? You re the one who brought us here, you know her, you go see!" he whispered.

Veru sat, stretching out one of his paws as he did. He felt his muscles painfully stretch from the long walk over. "I'm also very tired. And ill!" he said. "Besides, it wouldn't look very well to have some vagabond like me knocking around! Who knows what side of this conflict she's on. From what Ea tells me, I could end up murdered at any time!"
He didn't seem too concerned about this, all things considered. Either that, or Veru liked to avoid a conflict up to and including his own demise.
"Best to err on the side of caution and send up the real firekin man," he intoned. This was debatable. Veru was usually up to something. "And, besides. I'm right here. I'll toss on the charm if she gets clawsy. But I doubt it. Trust me. I can sense a kindred spirit when I see it. One of my many talents!"
The white lion straightened his back. "Just say that she's crazy, but you happen to find that very interesting. Then ask for her stuff. If need be, throw baseless accusations. I'll back you up."
As if on cue, a dark shape started to stir from one of the rock ledges. Veru raised his head and squinted against the light. "Likes to climb, I see."
"Who is down there?" Came the sharp response. "Hey, this stuff is off limits!"

Real firekin man? Was this lion serious? Fen'wei was getting annoyed, angry even, and he didn't enjoy getting angry. True, he was firekin, but that didn't mean he had to fight or be the one to fight between the two of them!
"I'm not going to say that<" Fen'wei said in a harsh, whispered tone, "you are the one who is crazy Veru, you think females enjoy your brash sense of humor?" he asked.
This was hopeless.
Why or why did he do this?
Then he heard a voice, her voice.
Crap.
"I'm Fen'wei, and this is Veru, we came to ask you a question..."
That was why they came, right?

"They certainly seem to," the white male whispered as the lioness moved from her hiding spot on the rocks. A broad smile stretched across his face. He never understood why others seemed so... severe. It seemed like an awful waste of time. But by now the other male was floundering, and it seemed like Veru would have to do a little more then simply sit back and watch what happened.
Naseera was full visible now, up on the rock ledge. She had a rather sour expression on her face, her strange grey eyes focused directly upon the one speaking. "A question?" She balked. "I'm a little busy for questions, boys. Unless you've got some new stuff from the mudflats, you can move on. I'm doing some very intensive cataloging and I really can't be-"
Veru decided to take his own advice and start with baseless accusations. "Are you aware that you are stealing things that rightfully belong to the pride?"
The black cat sneered, the tips of her fangs peeking out from her lips in a strangely endearing snaggletooth. She seemed surprised, to say the least. "Rightfully...- these things weren't wanted by anyone! And who the hell are you? Aren't you that sick bird Ea's been dragging around?"
"Uh, that'd be Vlam. I can see how you'd make the mistake though! We're both such strong, strapping fellows~" Veru smiled. Honestly, Veru had no idea which of the two she had been talking about, but it was enough to get her on her back feet. Conversationally. "Anyway, my friend here. He's represents the regents in this matter. We're here to collect anything that could be of use to the pride in this crisis."
Naseera blinked in shock. "Wh-what? What are you even-"
Veru moved over to one of the alcoves, and started to push around the various objects collected here. "We'll just be rummaging through these-"
"You can't just- don't just touch those things they're very delicate!" Naseera jumped down from her ledge, and started to baby over the odd assortment of objects. "These- these aren't things to just be used! They're important, you-"
Veru pushed aside a couple of strange, doll like contraptions. "Surely we could pull off the heads of these and put water in them..."
"Hey, hey! Don't do that!" Naseera yelped.

Fen'wei went to open his mouth in response to her, his eyes focusing on her gray ones, but Veru was too fast, too stubborn, too mentally ill, Fen'wei decided. He watched in horror as Veru gave him some sort of honorary presence via the regents, which he did not have, and began going through her things. Fen'wei left his bundle on the ground, safely close by so that in a moment he could grab it again, and pushed his heavy weight against Veru's, eyes narrowed.
"Are you insane?" he said harshly. "You've no right, Veru, stop," Fen'wei whispered harshly, with a hint of a growl.
"Toys, those are toys, Veru, sheesh," he pushed at Veru's shoulder again with a heavy paw and sighed and looked to Naseera. "Please forgive him, and also my presence being with him for causing this frustration. I met Veru just recently, and he told me you might have an item I'm looking for, to try and help with the water situation."
Fen'wei looked to Veru, a silent warning to not touch anything and went to his bundle and grabbed it in his mouth. "But, Veru also said you collected vast amounts of items, so, I perhaps thought if you had what I need, we might trade? I collect items from the dunes."
He hoped Veru had not squashed all hopes.
