My name is nick. I am not a Muslim. I am a Christian.
HOWEVER! I am an open minded Christian that understand that everyone has their own beliefs. I respect them. Especially seeing as my wife is a Wiccan.
But one thin I take a lot of grief for, is my deep respect and liking of the Muslim culture. While in Iraq, I received a copy of the Qu'ran from an imam after a long conversation regarding Islam. For I admire Islam, even more so than Christianity, as the Bible is static, full of contradictions. The Qu'ran is not. It was meant to be sung. It is full of art and beauty. I feel ashamed for the way my country has treated the Islamic countries, for most of my countrymen and fellow Christians do not understand the beauty in Islamic culture, nor in the individual cultures and histories of the various countries of Islam.
I wish to learn all I can, so that when someone talks bad about it, I can show them the true meaning of Islam.

Well, depending on the way you look at it, we both worship the same God. After all, correct me if I'm wrong, seeing as you would know more than I would, but Mohommed (there's a phrase that you say after the name. Can't remember it at the moment) said that Jews and Christians were Children of the Book. That Jesus Christ was not the Son of God, but a Prophet, like Mohommed, but to a lesser degree. I remember a story of Mohommed fleeing Mecca (Or Medina), exiled by paegans, receiving sanctuary in a Christian Church. Greek orthodox I believe. And Mohommed once offered a group of Jews the use of a mosque for their worship to God. I had a friend in Basic Training, one of the bravest men I've ever met, who was a Christian that converted to Islam. I witnessed his Shahaddah (sp?). I was moved. Even a Christian Baptism or jewish Bar Mitzvah (both of them not as important as Shahaddah) did not bring the same feelings. You know...I'm probably butchering the spelling of Mohommed and Shahadah. I apologize if I am.

I apologize if I am. You´re both wrong and right. Indeed the Christians and Jews are people of the Book, so you are right on that part. But that is only referring to the Book Allah has send down to them, not the corrupted books. this said. The Torah and Bible were only sent down to a group of people, while the Quran was sent down to the whole of human kind.
As for the worship of Allah, He has shown us how to worship him. So in that we follow Him. It isn´t likely to worship Him in a way, in which He doesn´t want to be worshipped. I hope you are following this. My experience with the world religions is that there is much more that catches the eye.
Furthermore, when Jews exactly follow Mozes, and Christians exactly follow Jesus, then there is no problem. Unfortunately, this is not possible because of the corruption of the two Books. Therefore Allah send down the Quran, a book which no one can corrupt because of the protection that Allah has put on it. Which is a blessing itself.
Also what I would like to mention, is that Jesus never said: "I am Jesus and I bring you Christianity".. So it is the people who made the religion actually, Allah simply made rules for a group of people, not the whole of human kind. While the prophet Muhammed, did say: "I am Muhammed, and I bring you Islam". ( Of course not the exact words, this is only a example.)
Now about the Shahada it is the most beautiful line that you can say during your life. Many people wish and ask Allah every day, to die in a position that they can say it. Because a Muslim his/hers last words need to be the Shahada, but it is not very easy to say it.. so you really has to be a Muslim, and there is no one who can tell you are... not even yourself. Only Allah. Verily He is the All-Knowing.
My question for you is, do you believe Muhammed is the prophet of God? If no.. can you explain me why.

My question for you is, do you believe Muhammed is the prophet of God? If no.. can you explain me why. Ah. I stand corrected. As I said, I'm learning, so bare with me please. XD It's hard to explain why I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It's what I've always grown up with, it's what I always believed in. It just feels right to me. Muhammed is A Prophet of God to me, but of Islam. A simple mortal man went among the people and said "I am but a man, but I have a message from God." And the people followed eventually. Jesus went among the people and said "I am the Son of God and I bring salvation." From a strictly non-religious view, Muhammed was hugely effective in the spread of Islam. Christianity took longer and was more bloody. My belief is that all three: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity, are both right and wrong. There are so many similarities and so many differences. Maybe we're all wrong...maybe we're all right. Who knows? It's all about faith. My faith tells me that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Yours tells you that Muhammed is the prophet of God. I do not try to offend, nor push my beliefs onto people. I personally dislike it, so I wouldn't do it. I simply want to learn. Maybe I'll see the light. maybe I won't.

Hmm, do you prefer a topic? like Ramadan the month of fasting, or the prayer ( salat ) or the Quran? build me the road and I will walk on it lol.

Don't get me wrong, I respect your religion and If I made you feel that I am pushing Islam on you, I apologize. My only intention is to let you realise, that although all religions have their truth, there is only one with the Ultimate Truth. You believe Jesus is the son of God, but he himself never claimed it. The prophet Muhammed, was blessed with the task to be the messenger of Allah. Now all the other prophets were messengers... so why is Muhammed so special? Well.. because he has was given the Quran. And the Quran is the Miracle of Miracles.. there is no prophet.. who brought a bigger miracle than the Quran. It may sound strange because Jesus could heal people and Mozes opened the sea. But if you read the Quran, I can not explain in words how wonderful that Book is. And its full of Miracles, the way of speech.
You said: "Maybe we're all wrong...maybe we're all right. Who knows? It's all about faith." Well, Islam isn't just faith, we got prove. Allah gave of clear signs, very very clear signs, that make it impossible to not believe in Him. The Most High.
Back to your first post, what would you like to learn my friend? The proof could be said about Christianity, also. I mainly want to learn about Islam from a Muslim who is NOT an Imam. Someone that has a non-pastoral/scholaric view. An "Average Joe" as we call them. And because there is a small part of me that has doubts about Christianity. Very tiny part, but it's there nonetheless... ANd don't worry, I didn't see you as pushy. if you've ever had a run-in with Jehovah's Witness, you'd see pushy. XD Hahaha! Yea they can get a bit pushy sometimes. So you want to learn about Islam from a regular Muslim. Hmm, do you prefer a topic? like Ramadan the month of fasting, or the prayer ( salat ) or the Quran? build me the road and I will walk on it lol.Ramadan is like...the ONE thing I'm well versed about. Comes with every pre-deployment briefing. XD Hmm...How about... There is one thing I am not fond of. The way women are treated in Islamic countries. I'm from the Southern US. Texas. Women are treated with more respect than a man and almost as much as the elderly. Some of the things I see in non-Sharia Law places (Saudi Arabia for example) grates on my nerves.

Lord Redtail Rathan Jin Saga Lord Redtail Rathan Jin Saga Lord Redtail Rathan Jin Saga You´re both wrong and right.
Ah. I stand corrected. As I said, I'm learning, so bare with me please. The prophet Muhammed said: "The best among you is the one who is the best towards his wife"
Hadith - Muslim, #3466
I will only talk about the women in general and not a mother, because a mother has de highest status in Islam like the prophet said: "Paradise lies under de feet of your mother".
First I would like to point out, that If you want to learn about Islam, search your own information, down rely on anybody especially the news!
It is Islam who gave women many rights, when we read history we notice that only recently women got rights, while Islam already gave women rights during its time. In Islam women are treated with deep respect, there is a whole chapter on Women in the Quran, why?.. to sort out any mistakes on their position, so Allah secured their position.
Of course there are people who take their wives for granted, but they are the wrong doers because a true Muslim would never mistreat his wife because he knows the her position.
Now, does Islam takes rights from women? absolutely not, It was Islam who gave the women the right to vote, this 1400 years ago, while in America women couldn't vote until the 1950/60.
Many people think that women covering their body is oppression.. well its not, because It is not the husband that tells his wife to cover herself.. It is God. Now you and I know, women are very attractive you and I might have a different kind of attraction but like they say: Every pot has a cover. So for herself and for others it is better for a women to cover herself. So actually God gave women a uniform because of their attraction.
Now how often do you see men whistle at Muslim women (covered) .. or how often do you hear that a Muslim lady has been raped?
So the women cover their beauty, and show it only to their husbands. You could compare it with Gold or Diamonds, or your pin number. You hide those things, because of their value? So God commanded women to cover their value, .. their beauty.
I hope I answered your question, if not let me know!

Yet I have been told by an Imam that Paegans are the Infidels. So...what is an infidel? And does Allah truly command their death? Good question, Islam never encourages violence, Allah(swt) only commanded us to use violence as protection, meaning: If people would attack muslims because of their religion, muslims are allowed to use violence back, but! as soon as the enemy stops, muslims should stop as well.
Now regarding the infidels, the quran says: But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do. [31:15]
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.[5:8]
Now this next verse will answer your question in the perfect order, I think. : Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.[16:125]
So Allah doesn't tell us to use violence, no, instead we should share our knowledge with them, and invite them to Islam, the way of Allah(swt).
If they refuse to turn to Islam, so be it. Every person will be held responsible for his/her own actions.
It would be strange if a God would say: "Kill all the infidels oh you who believe!".. If that would be the situation.. it would be very weird that God would create this infidels.. so it wouldn't be rational. So Islam on this point is: "Live and let live" However, call to the way of Allah(swt).
Again Islam, isn't pro violence, it is pro knowledge. So you can image how wrong the so called "Muslim" terrorist are. And there are some verses in the Quran with contain violence, of course.. what do you imagine.. Islam was something totally different than the Idol worship in that time, the elite people who had the power, were angry because of this call of "One God" so they tried everything to finish Islam, so the Muslims that time had to fight back.
Also when we look into history, Allah(swt) commanded the Muslims to spread the message, you can imagine very few people were waiting on these Muslims, of course there were people who allowed them to live by their religion. But the ones who didn't fought against them, so Islam fought back, in order to spread the message of Islam.
Have I gave you a decent answer?

I actually keep teeling people that God does NOT say "Kill Christians/Americans." or "Blow yourselves up and I'll give you 72 virgins." Doesn't Islam actually mean "The Way of Peace" or something like that? And that actually gave me a good answer. As I said, I prefer a normal person over an Imam (Educated and faithful that he may be) because they won't BS me or try and convert me.
