No one is really quite sure what made this dark lioness become drawn to the Mnyama'nafsi, the Skinwalkers. All anyone knows is that she was one of the few picked up by Ghadhabu, the future queen of the pride, in the early days. To'ir, their king, was steadily gathering followers, and like many of the other lions, she was quite silent about her past. It wasn't like the past mattered - they would all be starting new lives soon, born again under the spirits whose pelts they wore.
She was not with the group for very long before she disappeared. Rumor had it that she'd grown pregnant, though none of the other lions seemed to know the father. If not a lion of the Skinwalkers, then who? It was unusual enough that she had fled in pregnancy, despite the willingness of much of the group to care for her. The Ambangalia, the nannies, felt rather denied of their duty, for who would help her in childbirth? As far as anyone knew, she was alone and lost - or worse, dead.
But then, many moons later, almost as suddenly as she had disappeared, she reappeared once more. It became clear to everyone that she had taken on Utafunua, to seek her spirit animal, for she returned bearing a new pelt, and had taken on a new name. They welcomed her, but were wary - something seemed utterly out of place. Where were her cubs? Was she even pregnant to begin with? Maybe there was nothing unusual at all... But that did not seem to be the case. Her pelt placed her in the Paka, the feline clan. It was dark, the exact color of her natural fur, and had small green markings that seemed too similar to her own to be a coincidence. It was crudely stitched together, as if made from more than a single animal - peculiar for a Paka, whose pelt was usually made from a big cat. Yet these seemed small.
Where were her cubs? Where had her pelt come from? What was her spirit animal? The dark lioness's lips were sealed.

There are only two simple rules: be nice to others, and be creative. This rp contest is designed to test how well you know the Skinwalker culture, and how creative you can get with personality. We're asking for dedication here, as this is to promote interest in the Skinwalker pride. So please do not enter if you intend to have her leave the pride at any point.
The only prompt is to explain what really happened while she was away. How did she get - and what even IS - her spirit animal? You may be as graphic as you like, but please leave a warning at the beginning of your post.
The form itself is quite simple:Birth name: Spirit name: Entry:

Birth name: Dingane (One Who Searches) Spirit name: Ayize (Let It Happen) Entry:Dingane knew it was a mistake when she let the smooth talking leopard share her den for a few nights; she was not unlovely, and there were male lions around that could have slaked her lust if that was what she really wanted. But she had been taken by male lions before, and they were rough, and they left her alone when they were done, to be by herself in her den with no one left to talk to. And the black-furred leopard swore he would never leave her alone. Ever. He would stay by her side, and share her den; they would share kills, and water, and their cubs would grow up strong and tough and be comfortable in the grass and in the trees. He was a cat of dreams, and his dreams infected Dingane, and she prayed she was dreaming again when one day she woke up and he was gone.
The loneliness over came her and she went with Ghadhabu to join the new pride, but quickly realized she was carrying a leopard's cubs. Cubs that would be targets in her new home - and, whatever she thought of her erstwhile mate, she would not let another litter of cubs be killed in front of her- not like the first, killed so she would be free again to mate. So she fled, without telling anyone, to track him down and give him the cubs, that they might be safe.
It took months for her to find him, and when she tracked him down it was another of his abandoned females that brought him to her, heavy with cubs and in poor health. He promised to take care of his offspring.
It would have been a large litter, but the trials of the journey had robbed the life from four of them. The last was a weakling, misformed, with the wrong shape to be a leopard and too small to be a lion. His father took him though, when her milk gave out, and she hoped he survived for at least a while in the world.
Dingane spent weeks recovering the strength to return to the pride; the cheetah that her leopard mate had been with helped her to restore her strength, taking pity on the lioness. She helped Dingane piece together her cubs pelts in something big enough to cover her body when Dingane cried for her cubs, and said she would never be parted again from them. And when the leopard passed again, with his son no where to be seen and no word for either of his females, it was the cheetah that brought back the small form, chest and stomach split from his father's claws, to complete Dingane's pelt.
Dingane will never speak of the three daughters and two sons she lost, nor the leopard that took them from her. She returns to the pride, as silent as ever, and watches the babes of the healthy mothers, and, when the sun is too hot for anyone to be about, Dingane curls herself in her pelt and whispers their names to herself, the names they never used, because she will never, never forget them.
There is no pain worse then losing a child.

Birth name: Anayejua (Swahili-Who Knows) Spirit name: Aiti Surua (Finnish-Mother of Sadness) Entry: (WARNING: May be a little disturbing...) She'd left because she knew what the reaction would be if the others found out. Her stomach had begun to show her to be pregnant, with cubs that she'd adored....or thought she had. Anayejua at the time, she had been....Anayejua.....a name that had plagued her as she'd let her pawsteps carry her outside the boundaries of the pride, to a farr off Den. A den wherein she curled to rest. Jua spent her time there, nurturing the small lives within her, in heat and cold...alone. All alone. Too much of this, she knew, was not good for any mortal form, but she didn't want anyone to know that even she didn't remember the father of her own babies.
When the time came for them to be born, Anayejua remembered the agony, the pain as they slowly came from her....five. Five cubs....Five cubs...that looked just like her. When she lay her eyes on them...she felt no motherly instinct....nothing protective. Only irritation. THese five mewling little creatures had caused her pain and madness, had been why she'd been alone for the full gestation period. She actually found herself rather....angry at them, as strange as it sounded. Even to her own tired, dehydrated mind....it was strange. But strange didn't matter.
As they continued to mewl, she let out a cry of pain and irritation, and within a moment, they were all silent...And Jua looked down at her cubs. Horror pierced the sane part of her mind as she picked one limp body up in her paws. One by one...she carefully began her most gruesome work yet.
Each cub was taken into her paws.....and then the sharp claws of their mother moved up their middles. Slicing pelt from flesh and sinew, she watched as the blood ran over her paws, the tiny forms cold. Watching the bodies carefully, she managed to separate the pelt with her claws, not liking how messy this was getting. She'd been hoping for it to be clean, but when it got to the head especially...it was proven not to be so. After all five pelts were cleaned and lay before her, all five flat, she finally felt something wet roll down her cheek.
Tears....Was she crying? Why was she crying? She missed them, she supposed, but this way, the cubs would be with her forever....noiselessly. It was this last thought that made her sigh in relief as she lay down on her stomach and started to sew. They were small threads she was finding around her, and the needle was something she carried about, and as she crafted, all five became a perfect pelt for her to wear. The carefully crafted thing was slung over her lithe shoulders, and she trotted out of the cave...into the full moon. Leaving the bodies behind her.
There was a pool of water not far from where she had committed her heinous act, and as she gazed into it, Anayejua found herself crying once more. She did not understand this heart-wrenching emotion that seemed to eat her every time she looked at herself,....wearing the pelts of her cubs. It felt as though her heart had been ripped from her chest. She knew she'd found her spirit name when she began to head back for the pride. She also knew that she would never be able to look at her own face again, so long as she wore the pelt upon her back.

Birth name: Nyarai ['Be Humble'] Spirit name: Tendai'Masozi ['Be Thankful For the Tears'] Entry:She'd known for only a short while now, that something was wrong. Her body just felt so.... different, very unlike the very alert lioness to let something so strange creep up on her. But it took her far longer to realize exactly what was wrong. Nyarai had no knowledge of where babies came from, no knowledg of anything to do with them. Naturally the shock of another female asking her how many she expected took her by complete surprise. The confusion was at the top of her list, how could she be with child? HOW had this happened? With a little bit of vague questioning she finally began to put the pieces together and that's when it finally hit her. The Father - a leopard, very much meaning hybrid children, she couldn't stay amongst her pride she had to leave; not for herself but for her future and more importantly - theirs. Nyarai smiled cautiously down at the small bump forming on her belly and gulped down a few deep lungfuls of air. Tonight, would be the night, she had no choice.
[TIME SKIP]
Nyarai gasped and wheezed with exasperation as she forced herself to continue moving. The pain was unbearable, all of her weight hanging by her belly, torturing her joints, forcing every footstep to feel like an eternity in hell. Every step shot needles through her feet, every whistle of the wind in her ears, forced her jump quickly making her regret the decision. This was possibly the worst decision she had ever made! Leaving her only chance at an enlightening first pregnancy? What had she been thinking? Rushing out into the unknown with cubs in her belly and no idea of how to care for them while in her belly or out? She couldn't do it anymore, she had to rest.. the pain.... it was just too much.
As she lay in the small makeshift den she'd created with available debris, Nyarai prayed to the god's that her punishment end, and that her reward finally be given. What she had yet to realize is that, that is exactly what was happening. The hours passed with little no signs of her cubs life force, but she didn't worry. They're probably just sleeping. That was a logical thought right? If we slept out here, then surely they slept in her belly?
More torturous hours pass before Nyarai's fears finally come to life. She delivered her first cub, a stillborn. It was confusing, and for a moment she simply giggled at the sleeping cub, nudging him lightly with her nose to awaken him from his slumber. But nothing happened. The lifeless body remained lifeless, and the Mother became distraught begging to gods she'd never known she believed in, performing compressions she never knew she knew. But nothing she did gave off even the slightest bit of a reaction. Moaning uncontrollably, the lioness placed her head ently over the non moving body and wept until her eyes were dehydrated from lack of anything to fuel them with. It was around the time her second stillborn lost itself to the cruel world, and Nyarai completely lost her mind.
She'd done everything she could for these cubs, and in the end she had never been fot enough to have them. Perhaps this was her punishment for abandoning her pride? Or even worse for having given in to that leapord in the first place? She would never know her answer, but in the flahs of an eye she knew one thing she could do. Something that would give her lovely children the immortal lives they deserved, as well as give their Mother back the support she needed now more than ever.
Nyarai looked down pathetically at the tiny corpses at her feet, and she silently begged for their forgiveness before burying them under debris. She left the den, full intent on returning but first she had to find the things she would need. A needle of sort, a bone would do, string.. she'd have to make due with what was available to her back at the den. with luck she found the perfect snapped bone near a somewhat rotten antelope kill nearby and she quickly darted back to her den, nowhere near prepared for the task she had to perform.
First would be her first-born, the one she had so stupidly mistaken for asleep. Wincing away from the terrible act, the lioness apologized once more before cracking the cubs chest open, and beginning the tedious process before her. She tore flesh from bones, ate the organs, and wept tears into the mottled pelt. All the while a thin, sharp edged bone gripped tightly within her jaws. Now onto her second born, a girl. The sight left her distraught and unable to continue for a good half hour or more. She'd DREAMT of this young girl, and now here she was dead before her eyes. She could do this, she just had to think of something else. Nyarai took deep breaths multiple times, trying to force herself to enter her dream, and be with the cubs she would never truly be with. It worked, for a while and she was able to successfully clean the pelt, escaping her dream just in time to begin the sewing job.
It didn't nearly as long as expected, and Nyarai was very thorough doing everything in her power to ensure that the cubs had the most memorable service she could offer them. A kiss at every stitch, and a nuzzle after every section.
There is no greater pain than the loss of a child. She'd heard this saying before, but she couldn't help but wonder if the lioness who'd mentioned it had ever had to do the things she had to her children. She doubted such a thing could ever have happened and refused to think anymore of it. Silently slipping her new skin over her body, covering herself in the lives she had lost sight of so easily. She would never do such a thing ever again. They would forever be together, forever and ever.
