Requiem in Mortis
So I came across an interesting fact I had never known before- .30-30 Winchester has the same diameter and casing length as .308 Winchester: 7.62x51mm.
Now, here's my question- if their dimensions are the same, is it possible for a .308 rifle to fire .30-30? Or is there some difference between the rounds that would prevent this?
.303 British and 7.62x54r are only off in their respective dimensions by, like, 2mm in length. However, looking at them, they're
drastically different. The same is true of .30-30 and .308, as seen
here. The neck is farther down, the case is thinner, and let's not forget the rim. Look how similarly different .303 (far left) is from x54r (second from left) in
this picture.
