Weapon-mounted lights

Do any of you guys have a favorite? I'm considering buying a Streamlight, just because they're reliable, powerful, and much cheaper, but who do you think makes the best weaponlight?

Someday, I do hope to get a Viridian, though. Green lasers are the s**t. It's just not in the budget ATM. I'm really debating getting one at all.



Also, long gun mounted lights are welcome, too.

There's a line between practical and tacticool. If civilian statistics follow police statistics (which they may or may not, I won't pretend), then 60% of all firearms self-defense situations happen in the dark, and shooting in the dark without a light lowers hit ratios 30%.

ETA: Also, I've heard first-hand accounts that a strobing weaponlight in a dark corridor destroys, if you can believe it, depth and distance perception, equilibrium, and hearing. Just the light will ******** you up bad enough to put you out of the fight.

Depends on your carry style. I've seen both holsters that allow lights, and holsters for lights. Personally, I would not be adverse to trying a holster built for a mounted light.



'Course, it'd have to be winter. But I'd mount it on my home defense gun, personally. Handgun lights are extremely versatile in that they can be mounted effectively on any weapon, so whatever I chose to defend my home with, the light would fit it.

My ideal carry has my gun holstered in a waistband sleeve and the holsters are usually contoured to whatever specific gun one decides to carry.

Though I have to go with Recon, flashlight in weak hand, gun in the strong hand.

A police survey could not find a single LEO who'd been shot for revealing their position with a flashlight.

That said, a separate flashlight works perfectly well with a pistol, but what about shotgun/carbine?

yeah, that FBI bullshit is risky.

when a perp shoots for you he's gonna aim for the light. coincidentally most people are gonna shoot to the lower left when confronted in this manner and stress. this tactic = bad news for agent smith.

holding it at the right side of your right arm not only doubles as a support but it means when they shoot for you your're less likely to be hit due to the perp's stress factor during the confrontation I mentioned


light for a long gun? prolly a mount that will fit the same surefire g2 I carry by hand. I dont think I wanna buy a bunch of different lights for each purpose

well theres the limited choice in holsters if you do mount a light,

second part of it is that not all carry guns are going to even accept a flashlight.

third is that added bulk to the gun isnt desireable to some folks.

and just by personal preference I like to be able to carry a gun that doesnt have extra bulk, and can use all the holsters available for it, and even if I wanted to mount a light on my G26 I cant because it wont accept one.

but thats for carry. maybe during a SHTF era in the near future I may actually need to carry around a full size combat pistol with extras

This is extremely tacticool but a really neat project if you like building stuff with electronics. Get some sort of hat or helmet, mount a digital camera in front of your eyes. Above it make a flashlight of sorts using infrared LEDs. The light is invisible to the unaided eye but with the digital camera you can see it thus you have visibility without the worry of giving away your position with a flashlight.

Yes I did read your post about no LEO being killed blah blah blah. This is mostly just an excuse to go to Fry's and pick up a bunch of stuff.

speaking of tacticool bullshit. I once turned an airsoft AEG into an OICW.


I mounted a digital camera to my gun and used it's AV cable to connect it to a portable DVD player that I had mounted on my vest.

all I would have to do is flip the screen down, peek the rifle around the corner and look down at the screen to start capping noobs.


I would love to set up an AR with a good HD camera in this manner. perhaps sidemounted behind a small red dot? or maybe just use a laser sight so that I can hit s**t while using the camera.
