 Shoga was having a pretty boring day. All of his siblings were off playing or sleeping, and he himself felt like doing neither. So he was randomly exploring the surrounding area instead, and even that was turning out to be pretty boring.
The little hybrid found a rock from which it looked like he could have a decent overview, and thoughtfully paced around it, looking for the best way to get to the top. From there, he would hopefully be able to see enough to keep him entertained for a while, at least.

 Jabez was basically prancing around looking for trouble. He looked to the sky now and then, but Auntie Bird didn't seem to be on to him this time. He had a healthy respect for his feathered aunt, but she could be a bit much at times. He was a big boy now, and he wanted to have adventures on his own from time to time. His mother got to have her alone time when she worked, so he should to since he was one step closer to being grown up now. Hey, who was that? He trotted up to the younger boy and took a good look at him.
"You're one of Saskiel's kids," he said, getting the name of the guard wrong. Births in the pride were rare enough and news spread quickly, but Jabez didn't know everyone in the pride by name. Far from it. "You're a hybrid. Half leopard, right?"
The striped cub probably knew he was a hybrid already, but the thought that this little piece of information was quite redundant didn't cross his mind. It was a cool piece of information and he liked to share, to show that he knew about stuff. The fact that this cub resembled a leopard was a redeeming factor in Jabez eyes. In his world leopards were stronger than lions, so clearly the leopard part was something to be proud of.

Shoga had been so absorbed in his study of the large rock that he hadn't noticed the older, larger boy's approach. He started a bit at being spoken to, and turned, frowning, to the dark boy.
He observed the other while he talked, noting the difference in size and age between them, as well as the darker, more intimidating color of the other's coat. Well, Shoga wasn't going to be intimidated by anyone! Partly to hide his embarrassment at being startled before, he deepened his frown and turned his shoulder on the black boy.
"My mom's name is Saskiranel, actually. And yes, I'm a hybrid. What of it?"
It wasn't that Shoga had noticed any kind of malice in the dark boy's words or anything, he just wanted to seem every bit as tough as this guy seemed to think he was, so he simply short-cutted to "obnoxious."

Saskiel - Saskiranel... That was pretty much the same to his ears, but he could see why this kid wanted him to say it right. He was smaller than Jabez and might be more attached to his mother. The dark leopard felt much more grown up and he had never cried if Elera wasn't there (as far as he could remember).
"Yeah whatever," he said and shrugged, "But are you half leopard? Because leopards are usually stronger, and that's cool."
Jabez unconsciously tried to look as big and tough as possible. It wasn’t something he decided to do, it just happened when he played with others. He was sure he was stronger than many of his playmates but you had to act tough too, you know?
