The dark-pelted lioness finished her usual ritual, her stack of three stones standing in front of her. Though this was a lesson rather than an actual hunt...better to be safe than sorry. She turned to the young male,
"Now, you have to stay silent, move fluidly. Focus more on blending with your surroundings rather than getting to the prey -- that will come naturally."
To demonstrate, Amanzi hunkered low, kneading the earth with her paws. A wind blew, rustling the long dried grass and she moved with it, silent. The point was to use the natural sounds and movement to your advantage, and in that way the prey would be less likely to be alarmed.
She slid back to Walimi's side, "Now you try."

Walimi couldn’t say he wasn’t excited- his heart wouldn’t let such lies enter his mind. It was pounding against his chest, threatening to reveal his eagerness at any moment. Alone with Amanzi! In all her glory. How could he not be excited about that? More than that, she had decided to go with him, without her usual hunting partner! What did it mean? Did she… did she think he was handsome?
Wasn’t like he was going to argue that, if it were the case.
It was hard to focus on the lesson. All he saw when she showed him technique was the way her body moved. The way her fur seemed to glow in the light of the day. What had she said? Something about blending?
“I understand,” he lied, nodding along to try and look like he was the world’s best learner. The hunting thing would be easy, right? He was a strong, growing male. Taking down prey would be no sweat.
Maybe he could impress her with his obvious talents.
Following her example, he slinked through the grass, trying not to look like he hadn’t been paying attention. Thankfully, he had been brought back to reality just in time to see her example, imitating her movements with a fairly good grasp on what he was trying to accomplish. “This isn’t so hard,” he offered lightly, all with the hopes of getting her praise, “what’s next?”
