Of all the games being held in the Swamps now, this was the one that Vyoga-kwaa was most confident in. He wasn't the most aggressive of lions but he was big and strong.. when he wasn't too busy tripping over his paws. But he was trying hard not to think about that happening since he was sure it would once he gave it any thought. He was matched up with a lion he didn't know, which made him uneasy, but it was all in fun.. even with trying to make an impression on the queen. Now he was thinking too much, again.
Offering Penda a nervous smile, he nodded and the match began. He shuffled his feet a bit, getting a feel for just how slippery the mud was, and then he leapt at his opponent.

Mud wrestling. This was the event that Penda dreaded the absolute most. He could handle the race, and he could even tolerate hunting for frogs in the mud. But with this, getting dirty was absolutely unavoidable. Nothing he did would prevent him from soiling his ash-colored coat, and he was absolutely positive that by the end of the match he would be caked with mud - both fresh and dried.
The very thought was nearly enough to make him shudder, but he did his best to quickly shove it aside. After all, he had a Queen to impress! Although it was entirely likely that the lion across from him - he was pretty sure his name was Vyoga - had the exact same goal as him. He knew he wasn't the only one vying for the favor of La'u Khara'i. She was a beautiful lioness, with an even more brilliant personality. And he could understand how other lions would react to the lure of her rank, although it didn't much matter to him.
He shook his head lightly, clearly the stray thoughts from his head and steeling himself for the match. In fact, he'd been so caught up in his own thoughts that he'd missed the signal to start and was taken by surprise when he found the other lion leaping towards him. Although he tried to recover from the inattentive start, the damage was already done. In short time he found himself pinned over Vyoga, his face full of mud.
This time he did shudder.End of Round 1: Won - 0, Lost - 1, Tied - 0

By the time Vyoga realized Penda was not paying enough attention to start properly, it was too late. Still, he couldn't help but feel more confident when his first strike landed- until he felt his opponent shudder. He wasn't expecting anybody to be repulsed by the idea of being shoved in the mud, that's what this whole game was about- and it was where they lived. Mud was unavoidable.
Silently, he pushed himself off of Penda and stepped back, allowing him the opportunity to get up.. but he knew better than to just give his opponent the chance to strike. Despite the effort to give Penda some room to right himself, he moved back in to attempt to push him off his feet before he could get steady.

Penda hadn't quite realized that Vyoga had noticed his shudder, and he was grateful for the opportunity granted to him to get back to his paws. For a moment though, he remained crouched, getting a feel for his footing before fully getting back to his paws. It wouldn't do for him to be caught unaware again, and this time when the other lion came at him he was ready. He met the other male head on this time around, bracing himself against the ground and wrestling for all he was worth. He almost looked surprised when he managed to get a leg up on his opponent, pinning him in the mud after a brief struggle.
This time it was his turn to step back and wait for his opponent to recover, something he was quick to do.

While he was prepared for Penda to fight back, it still caught him by surprise to be met in the middle. A brief shoving match had him lose his footing and fall to the mud, pinned by his opponent. He struggled briefly but Penda was quick to back off, as he had done after he had him. It was a comforting sign that this really was more in fun. So far they were tied, then, having bested each other once each.
"Not a bad start," he remarked, pushing himself up to his feet and shaking some of the mud from his fur before he realized he really shouldn't waste time doing that. He looked up to Penda's eyes and moved in quickly- aiming to tackle him back into the mud.

Penda was eager to use the time it took Vyoga to get up to shake some mud out of his own fur, frowning slightly when a nice thick glob of it fell squarely on the top of his muzzle. This time he just barely managed to suppress his shudder, and by some small miracle he found himself ready when the other lion came at him again. Despite the mud and filth, he couldn't hide his slight grin. This was actually kind of fun - barring aforementioned mud and filth of course.
Once again, Penda grappled with his opponent, and this time he was the first to lose his footing. A single slip found him crashing back into the mud, pinned beneath Vyoga's bulk once again.

Vyoga was impressed, both with his opponent and himself, that they managed to keep coming to a shoving contest despite the mud. He just barely outlasted Penda this time, and it sent him half-tumbling when Penda fell- which really didn't help him pin his opponent down. It was an uncomfortable scramble to get back up to his feet to give Penda room to get up again, and he slid himself back a bit. He wasn't sure what to do now, the whole shoving-match thing was getting old.. but he wasn't much of a creative fighter.
Staying in close proximity, he lifted a paw, aiming to swipe Penda's feet out from beneath him when he got up-- and leaving himself one leg less stable.
