In the days since Tazira and her thrall adopted Batarr, she had been well fed and happy. She even had a brother again - kind of, he was a hyena, so he was strange - but she still missed her mother and the many siblings that she got separated from.
One day, she hoped to be reunited with her family, but for now, she was happy to be cared for again. Batarr was on her way to visit Uncle Stinky, when she saw a familiar looking red patterned pelt.
"Aristo?"

Aristo had joined up with the pride and was learning as much as she could while keeping an eye out for her sister. She'd followed them to the pride lands, but she'd also had to join up and therefore had lost track of her a bit. So far she'd mostly stayed out from under paw (except for that encounter with old Grumpy).
Fortunately for her, she didn't have to search far and wide. Her sister, Batarr was the one to find her first. She whipped around to see who called her name and with a small yowl of happiness bounded over to tackle Batarr. "Bataarr! I found you!"

"I found you! Is mom with you? Are the others around, are they ok? I haven't seen anyone since the storm, and I couldn't find them and then Tazira took me in and she said we could go look for everyone once I got big and strong but I didn't know if I would ever see anyone ever again. Are you ok? Where are you staying? You should come meet Tazira and all, they're really nice!"
Batarr was thrilled to finally see a family member again - but she saw no sign of her mother or other sisters and brother around. Her heart, which had jumped up, began to sink again.
"Where is everyone else?"

Aristo blinked at the questions that spewed out of her sister's mouth, well, that's something she'd have to re-accustom herself to. Anything to do with her family, though, she would be pleased to deal with, even the formerly annoying traits.
"Batarr, I dunno where Mom 'n the others are. I got separated too. I'm only here 'cause I saw you and some lioness and followed you here. I had to join the pride and stuff before I could find you. I'm so glad to see you!" She rubbed her face against Batarr's affectionately.

Batarr nuzzled her sister back affectionately. Even if the rest of them weren't there . . . it was good to see Aristo. She thought Tazira would probably take care of Aristo until she was all grown up, too, if Aristo wanted. Then they could track down their mom and siblings together.
"Are you hungry? Tazira said she would bring back food today, and you can meet Miz. Miz is crazy, and Tazira has her thrall wife and Uncle Stinky, too. This way you can get fed and get strong even if you don't want to live in the same den as all of them."

"I never pass up free food." Aristo said. She wondered who all these people were that Batarr apparently knew. "Who's Tazira and Miz? Uncle Stinky?" She let out a giggle at the name. "Please tell me his name is actually Stinky." Aristo bounced a little. She was happy to be with Batarr and pleased at the idea of meeting others in the pride she'd decided to call home.

"They're all really nice. Well . . . well, mostly really nice. Tazira is the one who found me, and Mopani is like her mate, I guess. Kind of. I didn't know two girls could be mates but they act like they are. And the Miz is kind of my adopted brother, except he's a hyena. Mopani and Miz are both thralls. And Uncle Stinky is Tazira's brother and his real name is Taraxa but he doesn't have a thrall to keep his den clean so he's really gross all the time."
Batarr wasn't a big fan of Uncle Stinky, but he would probably be better if he just washed occasionally.

Huh, two girls. Really. That was something that she'd never seen before. Not that that was terribly shocking since she was only a juve lioness. "Two girls? Really? I' never knew that could happen either. Why did you adopt a hyena?"
Hyenas were dirty, annoying creatures that didn't care what they ate or who had it first. Irritating with their cackling and stealing. Especially the stealing. Why would one want one as a sibling?
"Uncle Stinky sounds like he needs someone to push him in some water."

"I guess he needed a mom to take care of him. I mean, he can't hunt or anything, so he needs to be fed, like us. He isn't really that bad. He doesn't smell nearly as awful as Uncle Stinky. Plus he chews up all the bones and everything else we can't eat, so there isn't much clean up in the den at all." That was nice.
"I think he needs a new thrall. Mopani used to be his thrall, but then Tazira took her. If he had another thrall, he could get everything cleaned up. And his fur and all. It's really gross. I wish he could get it combed."

"Well, I guess." She temporized on the hyena issue. Batarr probably needed someone to take care of to distract her from the loss of her own family. Maybe now that she had Aristo she could start pulling away from whatever silly hyena had weaseled its way into her affections.
"I bet Uncle Stinky wasn't too happy that Tazira stole his thrall." She giggled. That was probably a really amusing moment to have witnessed. "Maybe you could trick him into bathing somehow."

"If we got him to chase Miz down into the fjords we could probably get him into the ocean. The beaches are pretty narrow down there, and the waves go really high, sometimes. So it would wash the worst off of him, at least. And then he wouldn't smell as bad, I guess. Come on, I'll take you back to the den and introduce you to them all."
Batarr turned to face the den. "It's not far - come on, you need to meet everyone else. Then we can find mom."

Aristo followed her sibling to the cave that had been her home for a while. She couldn't deny there was a certain level of nervousness at the idea of meeting Batarr's new caretakers (she refused to call them family just yet). Well she knew the day had to come sooner or later. Better sooner and get it over with.
