Publicity: Semi-Public Weather: Overcast Location: On the fringes of the Pride
He had waited for his wounds to close, and the rains to stop, his fur clean and body whole, before approaching the remaining male of the pride. His companion lingered nearby, should Kamal think himself capable of causing trouble, though Gakere's quick mind told him it would not be a problem.
"Kamal," he greeted the older male with cool civility. This was the moment where Matifu would have struck, killing the other and cementing his place as leader of the pride.
Gakere, as it turned out, was not his father.
Instead, he sat, out of striking range, and spoke, tone matter-of-fact.
"My Father is dead, and his way is now over. Will you defend the past, or step aside?"

If anyone was expecting Kamal to play the hero, they clearly hadn't known the large male for more than five seconds. In fact, after news of Matifu's falling, the only thing that had kept Kamal from packing his bags was the simple fact that he was too brazen or stupid to think himself even on the radar of the new troop. Kamal was something unobtainable! As Gakere approached, he itched his side of some biting bugs that had swarmed during the rainfall.
It was a funny question. Kamal couldn't remember exactly what had been different about this way or that way. It all seemed the same to the large golden lion. Prides were a strange sort. It wasn't the first time he wondered whether or not it had been wise throwing his lot in with them. It wasn't a mistake Hakan would have made, that was for certain.
"I see nothing in need of defense," he said, pulling his foot out of his side. It still itched, but. "Prides have these ways and thataways. I do not trouble myself with differentiating them."

White teeth flashed, then, in what could pass for a smile, if Gakere was prone to those. Still, it wasn't an aggressive movement, and he inclined his head.
"Good. I have not known you to do me any harm," it was true, in fact, Kamal never seemed to care much beyond his meals and his occasional dalliances with the females of the pride. He had not been mean to the young male cub, unlike others. That didn't bother him. It meant that he was not a threat, and yet, was still there to provide both a familiar figure to the torn pride, and a variation of bloodlines.
"You are welcome to continue as you have been."

It was a wise idea, Kamal couldn't see why anyone would want to start up a reign without him. He brought a lot of things to the table. He could break that table with the amount of things he added to any fledgling regime. Just so long as they didn't expect unquestioning loyalty. Kamal was loyal in apathy. He neither conspired, nor did he prevent.
But then again, that might have been giving him too much credit. Forethought was not one of Kamal's many talents. For all he knew, he'd been apart of Gakere's plans all the while. "I will then," the golden lion said. "I'm no fan of prides but I do like it here."
He shook out his mane. "Things will be different now? Or more of the same?"

"More of the same," intoned the dark lion, dipping his head. "Though change is inevitable. We will no longer waste the muscles of our males, and they will be charged to either work for the pride, or leave us."
Of course, they still would not be allowed to mate. That would stay the same. Unproven males would be of no use in the breeding pool, and of course, it wouldn't even occur to most of the pride that the rule might change.
"The pride will meet in the next day, Kamal. I will see you, then."
