Hikaru had a hop in his step today as he walked into the tunnel. Most of the pride members would be fast asleep sadly or he would share his great achievement with them. Of course once the king found out what he did, the king would probably have some sort of parade in his honur. Oh how glorious! He dreamed about the brothers dressed in warm colors following behind, celebrating him like they should.
Today he beat the record of catching the most fireflies in one hunt. The old record was also held by him and it was a tough one to beat. He grinned proudly at his thought. The king hadn't heard about his last record breaking, but now with King Nahasi there was a chance that he would hear. He hadn't met the knew king yet, though he desperately wanted to. If he had a chance he would sit next to the king and discuss all the ideas he had and what he wanted to change about the pride. As head catcher he often thought about ways to make the pride better. The other catchers tend to ignore him when he would start talking about it, saying that he was nothing but a dreamer or that he was mad.
Of course he knew he wasn't mad. They were just jealous they hadn't thought of the ideas first. Once he spoke with the king, the king would realize how much of a genius he was. Perhaps he could persuade one of the council members to arrange a meeting between them! Genius! Now he would just have to find one and hope they were awake!

Ijara usually avoided the tunnels near the entrance to the Brotherhood's home. The wide tunnels ... unnerved him. But one of his old coworkers from the diggers asked him to check the integrity of the higher tunnels because of the recent cave in. He had decided to do the check during the hours when most were asleep as to not hinder a thorough assessment. If it also made it faster that would be beneficial as well.
The tunnels were intact and in very good condition. The diggers who created and the ones who maintained it were skilled to say the very least. He began to head back to the deeper tunnels, hoping that he could walk off how unsettled he was.

As he walked he spotted a leopard, but not any old leopard. In fact this leopard was younger. If he wasn't mistaken this leopard was Ijara on the council. He made his way to the leopard to investigate. "Hello Lord Ijara." He greeted with a smile. It was always fun to meet a council member. They were to dignified and noble. Some day he would make it to the council, being the council member for the catchers. It would be a great honor for him and he was looking forward to it. Though there was still so much time till that would happen.
"What keeps you up so late Lord Ijara?" He asked curiously. He would ask about a metting with the king later, when the time was right. First he wanted to know why the council leopard was up so late. Was it possible that the king already found out about his accomplishment and they were already planning parade in his honor? How magnificent!

He was startled a bit when he heard someone speak. He hadn't seen anyone in hours nor was he expecting to. Turning toward the voice he spotted the cheetah heading towards him. It took Ijara a few seconds to run through the members of the Brotherhood before he came up with a name and rank.
"Good evening... Hikaru, yes? From the catchers?" Admittedly he didn't know a lot of the pride members outside of the diggers yet. But the pride records helped him at least have some base knowledge of the members. When Hikaru asked about his activities, he politely inclined his head a bit. "I am here to check the integrity of the upper tunnels. I've been checking all the tunnels since the collapse in the newer branch."

Hikaru grinned. Ijara knew him by name and profession? Perhaps the council member Ijara was a fan of his? What a wondrous surprise! Hikaru thought to himself. He was always glad to have a fan. It was hard for him to come around and meet them. He would be sure to give Ijara some extra attention to make up for it.
"More tunnels collapsing. If I was a better digger I would be right on the job sir, but I am afraid my talents only extend as far as my net goes." He said honestly while showing off his net. "But if you need anything just tell me Lord Ijara. I can be of asstance with anything."
He smiled proudly. "If you would like I can walk you to your den and keep you safe in case any more tunnels collapse. I have quick reflexes and can surely protect you from any rocks that might fall." He jumped around from spot to spot to show his reflexes. He had a huge grin. He wouldn't admit it, but he loved having even the slightest bit of attention.

He shifted his weight to his other side. He was still a bit uncomfortable because of the larger tunnels, but he did not want to be rude.
"I am sure you would do a commendable job as a digger if you chose to. As for the tunnels, none of the others seem to show any signs of instability, so I would not be worried about any other collapses at the time. It is isolated in the downed tunnel."
At Hikaru's offer to escort him, he gave a polite dip of his head. "Thank you for the offer, but I do not require an escort. Though if you would like company to the lower tunnels, I would not oppose." Having someone to talk to always shook the feeling off before when he used to guide people from the entrance. He glanced at the previously displayed net. "How did the collecting go tonight?"

"I would very much enjoy that Lord Ijara." He loved having someone to talk to. More importantly someone who didn't think he was mad. His grin widened when Ijara asked how the catching went. "Well my lord, it went quiet well if I do say so myself. The group, despite our differences, worked together for a common goal and exceeded in our task. I am very proud of my boys. They proved today that they could do anything."
His boys, he thought. Of course he would never tell them that he called his group of catchers 'his boys' they would not like that. No they wouldn't. If they found out they would probably yell at him. They were still under the impression that he was a common catcher when in fact he was head catcher.
"Today I even managed to beat the old high score of catching. Some have said it was the best catch they seen. I say other wise. There is always room for improvement." He said in a boosting way. "But some times great deeds should be rewarded I think. The catchers all did a great job today."

Ijara nodded as they headed down the tunnels. "I am glad to hear that it went well tonight. It appears that you all work very well together. I'll admit I've never worked with the catchers before, I was always down in the tunnels."
They were deeper into the labyrinth the Brotherhood called home now and he could feel the edge leaving his mind. He listen to Hikaru talk about the night's catch and how he had conquered the last catch count.
"Hmm, that is indeed quite the accomplishment. If I remember right the last count was fairly high. We could be able to use the influx to begin lighting the newer tunnels for general use. I will bring it up at the next council meeting."

"Oh it was very high indeed! And me and the other catchers plan on bringing in more. Just wait and see Lord Ijara." He said proudly. "Someday we'll be able to light the whole pride. It will be amazing! Lights every where." He was more excited about the fact that he would be mentioned in a council meeting. Him, Hikaru. How amazing! He squirmed with enthusiasm.
"Someday if you would like Lord Ijara I could take you out to the surface and teach how to catch. It is a very enjoyable experience. There is nothing that matches the moonlight shining down upon you and watching these little guys dancing in the air. It is a sight that is unmatched. I think someday all the brothers should come up and enjoy it. Maybe you could mention that at your next meeting?"
He hoped it would be mentioned. That would mean he would be mentioned twice in one meeting. It wouldn't be long until he was on the council. That would be his proudest achievement, though he was still rather young to be on the council. Ijara, he knew was special, mature for his age. Hikaru knew he wasn't quite at the same level as the council members. He didn't mind that. Plus if he was on the council he would miss the best years of his life, where he could be catching fireflies. Nothing would beat the feel of catching fireflies, even being king would seem boring compared to that.

"It will indeed be a very great day, I look forward to it Hikaru." And he truly was. The lights were minimum in some areas, especially in the newer or lesser used tunnel ways. But at Hikaru's offer to bring him catching, that feeling he thought he'd left behind a few junctions ago started to rear its ugly head.
"I... think I will have to politely decline the lessons. Although the thought of learning how to catch sounds like quite the experience, I have other duties that take up a fair amount of time." His tail gave a rebellious twitch of discomfort "Though the idea of sharing it with the Brotherhood sounds interesting. I will see how it is received."

Hikaru wasn't used to being so calm. His tail twitched with excitement. Talking to Ijara was fun and all, but he had other task to do and he knew he should be off. The life of a catcher was an adventurous one. He knew that some wouldn't be able to handle the danger and excitement. He didn't know how others handled their lives not having as much fun as he had. Especially never seing the outside world. He shook his head. "Good night Lord Ijara. May the Fireflies light you where ever you want to go." He nodded his head and turned around and went the other way. There was still some time he could catch one or two more flies before the sun came up.
