The weather pressed cold and clammy through his fur as one of the frequent ocean storms lashed out in fury across the shoreline that was the pride's home. Lowering his head against the violent wind, Lucivar turned and headed up to the cliffs, their rock face made treacherous with rain, but the stormborn captain had no trouble traversing the dangerous cliff and was soon back on ground level, the soaked sand clinging to his paws as he fought his way down the rain-soaked beach to the small cave where Erlandr had taken shelter in what seemed like a lifetime ago, when both of them were young and foolish and Lucivar a fresh young reaver looking to prove himself in combat.
Now while still a young lion in his prime, Lucivar had been given his Captaincy and the burden and responsibility that came along with the title had steadied the wild young male, started to mature him in both thought and deed. Though he still possessed impulsive and rash desires rather too often, he was learning how to lead rather than live life purely for himself.
Finally reaching the cave Lucivar gratefully stepped inside and took a moment to shake the heaviness of rain water from his thick mane and coat. "Erlendr?" He called, stepping further inside as the wind howled in after him, sending a chill along his spine.

Erlender was at the very entrance of the cave, as if he were just about to step out of it , his mane wet and smelling like sea brine. His golden eyes looked up at his Captain and he made a shushing motion with his paw and beckoned him inside as far from the sleeping area as he could.
" Late sorry I am, Luc Capatin, but trouble ran I patrol on." He glanced back at the bundle of hides behind him, another smell of lion came, this one female and just as wet and briny as Erlendr.
" Fished her ocean from, and rest now she needs." He looked at the much bigger male, for compared to a true storm born Erlendr was much leaner of build, not as broad. The golden lion was whipcord over muscle, where his Captain was muscle over strength.
"Hurt she is, frail..meant not for harshness here. Thrall make her not Captain. Secret may I keep?"
Erlender asked very little of his Captain and friend, but this question came from his since of honor and concern for the female behind him, " Few days only need she here. Ocean nearly took her into depths."

Instantly quieting as his old friend appeared,he followed the bright yellow lion away from the sheets of rain that gusted into the entrance thankfully, and gave the smaller male an expectant but patient look. Over the course of their friendship Lucivar had become attuned to his friend's strange ways and knew there was never any rushing the oriental male.
As his friend spoke in that strange, mixed-up language of his, Lucivar mentally translated as they went, having grown used tot he mental acrobatics he had to perform in order to understand a damn word Erlendr spoke. Eventually he turned and glanced back at the bundle of furs where he assumed this female lay. "What you do with her is up to you, old friend. But rest assured your secret is safe with me." Pausing he tilted his head, then turned back to Erlendr. "Has she eaten? I am not sure we can get a healer down here... is she hurt badly?"

Erlender ran a paw through his mane, a look of disgust of how salty in felt crossing his face as he did so. He kept himself very clean, and in good mental and physical shape, for to his people the body was a temple to the gods, and not to do so was an affront to them. They must be feeling very affronted right now.
" Drown near she did, chill I fear her catch. Warm food, good do her would, yet scared seems she of us. Males believe I she is used to not."
The golden male seemed exasperated and truly worried about the small lump that laid under the hides behind him. " Healer we bring, secret no more shall be. Food I nee for her, and den of mine, herbs find you will, shelf left side, need this will I. Luc, bring them will? Me for?"
Erlender looked up at his best, if only true friend among the Reavers, a true need in his eyes for the Captain to say yes.

This time even Lucivar's extensive experience with his friend's unusual way of speaking was almost defeated by the strain in Erlendr's voice an the subsequent jumbling of his words even worse than usual. But after a moment he figured he had worked out what the yellow lion had said and stepped forwards, resting his large paw on his old friend's wet shoulder.
"I will see what I can find, or hunt... I think there is still some of the meal left from earlier, but if not I shouldn't have too much trouble catching something small for her. Now, you said these herbs where... in the left side of your den." Nodding to himself he settled his paw back on the wet sand and glanced back across the cave's shadows to the hide-covered lump. He admitted to being curious as to what she looked like, but she was Erlendr's discovery and it was up to his friend what happened to her. Still, he would have liked to know where she came from, what kind of pride sent lionesses out into the ocean in such a storm without the protection of a stronger lion.
Turning back to Erlendr he smiled reassuringly. "I will be back as soon as I can be. Stay here with her." he knew the reaver would feel happier if he could be close by and keep an eye on her, for a lion who was once an outsider, Erlendr had a very strong sense of responsibility.

Erlender gave his Caption a grateful smile, knowing his brother in his arms would take care of the things he asked for. Now, if he could only manage to get all the brime and ocean smell of him. If he didn't wash soon it would stick to his fur and crystallize and be impossible to get off later without half chewing off his fur.
Looking back at the pile of hides at the lump that seemed as if she was asleep, or at least to scared to move, he decided that he could risk stepping just outside the cave to the little water fall that ran down on side of it right by the entrance and at least get his mane clean, with help from the waterfall and the driving rain.
Erlender then returned to his vigil at the front of the cave, his eyes watching the cliffs for Luc's return.

The brown male did as he promised and after leaving the dark cave, made his way back up the cliffs to the pride's den area. Silently slipping into Erlendr's den, knowing exactly which one belonged to the yellow-coated reaver, he unearthed the leaf-wrapped herbs before slipping back out, herbs held in his mouth, and went round to the feasting stones. After some maneuvering he got the hind end of an ibex onto his back and, once again taking the herbs in his mouth, he took the long way down to the beach-front cave, unwilling to loose the meal and have to go chasing down the cliffs after it.
Returning to where his old friend waited, he slipped back into the cave, wetter now than he had been earlier, and let the haunch slide form his shoulder to land with a dull thud on the stone floor. Setting the package of herbs down he glanced over at the bundle of furs. "Take as long as you need with her, I'll let you know if there is something going on that you have to be present for."
Giving Erlendr a reassuring smile he bumped the other male with his shoulder.

Erlender began to undo the herbs wrapped in the leaves, " Time long I doubt be here she will. Afraid us is she." He gestured with his chin to the ibex leg, his expression showing that he expected his friend and captain to start cutting it up into smaller chucks.
" Hope only I to give her lungs strength, after ocean take her tried. If not, wet lung catch she can. Herbs here I hope help will."
He sighed and began to work the herbs into the meat that his friend began to pass to him, " Better be it if rest she would for few days here, but fear I will she not."
Erlender grinned at his friend, " And how keep my presence unnoticed will you? Lenart dye you will bright gold?"

He nodded and started to slice up the meat with his sharp claws, working with quick and effective strokes. He understood his friend's worry, for anyone who tangled with the might of the ocean had slim chance of making a full or easy recovery. They lost unsuspecting thrall and too-adventurous cubs to the water's might yearly. A stranger to their shores who did not know her power would be doubly in danger.
Suddenly snorting out a bark of laughter, he looked up at Erlendr with one brow raised, a grin on his maw. "Don't tempt me... that would be the funniest thing. Though I doubt Lennart would hold still long enough for me to dye him." Still chuckling he turned back to his task. "No... I had thought to drop a few comments about having sent you on an errand to one of the outposts.... that is far enough away to explain your absence for a few days. I can come bring kills here for you both.

Erlender laughed with him, shaking his head at the image, " Mention not bigger he then I is." He continued to rub the herbs into the meat, making sure that almost every inch of it had was covered.
" Knew I you would way find. Wonder where come she from." His amber eyes glanced over to the pile of furs, a slight frown on his face, " and why such fear has she of males. Think you hurt one has her?"
He looked back at his friend and captain who had more experience with such things, knowing more of the Reavers who had captured and brought home unwilling Thralls to their dens.

Smirking he nodded. "Indeed, it would fool no one, but it would be funny as hell." Finishing the last of the meat h piled it with the rest waiting to be basted by the reaver beside him and glanced over at the pile of furs thoughtfully.
As much as he adored his pride-brother and closest friend, constantly translating what he said so Lucivar himself could understand it gave him a headache. But he didn't want to change the other male, in word, thought or deed... So it was a moment's concentrated expression that wrinkled the Captain's brow before he sorted out Erlendr's mixed-up syntax in his head.
"I have no idea.. I guess if she ever speaks to you, you could ask her." He offered, looking back at his friend. "Its highly likely... many rogue males are violent and no to mention all the prides out there that are warrior-based.." Shrugging he shook out his fur. "I should be getting back before they realise we are both gone..." He knew that could get awkward when neither one of them could give the real reason they had vanished into a cave together... the implications of the other reason, no matter how false, didn't bare thinking about. "Let me know if you need anything ok? Ill bring some more food down in the morning."

Erlender nodded, " Ask her I will, if she chooses to speak. Now rest needs she still, and food now for."
The bright colored lion waited while his claw sworn brother worked out what he was saying. He was used to others needing time to understand him, a problem he did not have when he listened to them, but for some reason he could not wrap his own mind around how they put they words together so that he could do the same.
" Perhaps." He looked back over his shoulder at the female laying on the hides, at Luc's words he chuckled and shook his mane out, " Bad that would be, brunt of many jokes poor captain Luc would become."
His amber eyes glittered with the joke that his friend would be the bottom and therefore considered the 'female'.

Lucivar blinked, not needing any time to translate that particular comment. Giving his close friend a roll of blue eyes he snorted rather ungracefully. "Somehow I doubt it would be me the butt of many jokes to become, old friend." He huffed in reply, though couldn't help the grin as he shook his head in wry amusement.
"Anyway, I'm off. Let me know how she does, and I'll keep that excuse up for you." Arching a brow at Erlendr he shook his head again before slipping out of the cave and back into the chill downpour of the storm beyond.
