It had been a long time since Abeni had left the seclusion of her caves. Her fur, which had now changed from jet black to a dull dark gray, hung thick and wet with steam and sweat. The cooler open air made her shiver, eyes closing for a moment to steady herself against it. The steam and heat called to her, beckoned for her to return... And the wanted to. But she also needed food, and to stretch her legs. With how the joints trembled as she walked, that was painfully obvious to her.
You're getting old, she thought to herself. Much too old to go chasing anything large. She sighed softly, and knew that it would just waste more energy than she had. But something small... A hare, perhaps.
She trotted slowly down from the jagged outcrops, down where hot rock met dry grass, which eventually would turn into something that could sustain more life. Her head remained bowed as she walked, sniffed, and tracked, eyes half lidded. They were so used to the darkness, and she was grateful that the sun was setting, saving her from the sting of blinding light.

Her scars ached again. It was a near-constant thing now, when the sun first set, or the night was particularly humid or cold. But it didn't make Hakuna any less happy about it. Just...slowly, she grew used to the ache. That night, however, the ache was sharp and worse than usual. Perhaps there was a storm coming? She'd need to talk with Usare, warn him about that. The crimson lioness made her way towards the hot springs, intending to soak in one of them to get the ache to go away.
She hadn't expected to see the black form that made her way down from the hell gate. Well now! That was a sight she could put off a soak for! She could ignore pain and aches. She had an old friend to catch up with! "Abeni! Nice to see you out of your den!" There was good humor in her voice and a smirk on her muzzle as she changed course to meet the other.
