User ImageJabez liked the freedom of being a healthy leopard in a pride full of sick lions. He was healthier and stronger than most of his peers, and more importantly, he could leave whenever he wished. As an apprentice he was supposed to learn a skill, but he found that no one questioned his trips to the rogue lands. He was "hunting" if anyone asked, or possibly "scouting" like his mom. Some days he returned with a kill, sometimes not. The important part was the freedom.

Auntie bird might have something to say about it, but he had developed a skill not to listen when she nagged. Some trips lasted more than a day, and if he kept it up his mother might try to have a talk with him too. Might just be easier to not return one day. Jabez hadn't really planned to leave, but he hadn't disregarded the idea either. It was a possibility. He was a leopard, and he could if he wanted to. But today he was just going to enjoy his freedom. He was quite far from the pride borders, looking for some kind of trouble to get into.

And trouble he found.

The black lioness was on the hunt. Violet eyes pierced through a small patch of tall grass that she crouched within. If anything moved she was ready to pounce. Needless to say whether it was prey or not, she didn't much care. The day had not be a good one. Koka had very much woken up in a terrible mood and it had done nothing but gotten worse throughout the day. Dark brooding thoughts had encased her thoughts. May the Gods forgive anyone she run across whether it be prey or otherwise.

Licking her maw, Koka's muscles quivered as she waited quietly. The sound of a bird, a hare, but wait! Something bigger was moving through the grasses. Lowering herself closer to the ground, her muscles tensed and the moment the dark form of, whatever it was, came into view Koka was on the move. With a roar she pounced forward to knock the smaller creature to the ground.

The young leopard had never been in a real fight, and never really been attacked. If you asked him he had plenty of fighting experience, but compared to what went down in the roguelands it was all cub play. He wasn't completely oblivious to his surroundings, however, and when a large dark something attacked him he tried his best to get out of the way.

He was sort of successful in getting out of the way, and the two animals didn't collide head on. Jabez stumbled to the ground, but scrambled to his feet as quickly as he could, facing the creature that had attacked him. He had expected it to be a grumpy rhino at the least and was surprised to see a lioness. Wow, she must be really confused if she tried to hunt a leopard. His fluffed up fur started to settle somewhat, but it was obvious that he had been startled.

"Did you think I was a wilderbeest or something," he asked, trying to sound confident but probably coming across as a bit shaky. He didn't think she had attacked him on purpose, so a mistake was the only possible explanation he could see.

Hm...not a bad dodge.

Koka calmly looked over her shoulder at the small 'prey' she had attacked and now clearly saw him what he was. Ah, a Leopard. I am not surprised me managed to squirm out of the way. Koka had had dealings with leopards in the past. While not near as strong as a lion, a leopard could be quite a formidible foe. The agile cats certainly could dodge, and Koka wasn't going to deny them the power they did posses. She'd seem a leopard carry a carcass all by itself into the boughs of a tree.

This one though, might prove to be a bit of entertainment.

"Hardly." She flashed a toothy grin before pivoting her body to face the smaller creature. The tip of her tail flicked back an forth as she contemplated what to do. As ruthless as she was Koka did not feed upon the carcass of other felines. THAT was far for barbaric and she possessed a bit too much finesse for such an act. Now, toying, maiming, playing, or killing another cat. THOSE were certainly things she'd do.

"I was merely looking for something to eat and you happened to uh...come into view." Let him take that as he wanted. Koka licked her maw as she stared him down.

(OOC: Sorry posts are so short. I haven't RPed Koka in forever and need to get back into the flow of her character. XD )

Jabez wasn't sure how to read the lioness in front of him. He usually didn't bother worrying to much about how other's felt and why they acted like they did. In his pride, there hadn't been a need to think much about those things up to this point. But this lioness didn't act like the lions he was used to, and it made him feel uncertain. It wasn't a feeling he enjoyed at all, since he liked to think he was always on top of things. To hide his insecurity he did what he usually did and talked too much.

"Well," he said, "You should be more careful, you might end up giving someone the wrong impression and get yourself into a fight."

If he'd stopped to think and actually look at the dark lioness, he might have figured out that she was fit, strong and probably able to kick his a**. The situation was uncomfortable, but the leopard still had a false sense of security. He'd never lost a fight to a lion before, and he didn't really think anything bad could happen to him.

Koka chuckled darkly. "It's only considered a fight when both sides are...somewhat equal." Flexing her claws into the earth, the lioness began to slowly circle the young leopard. A game of cat and mouse would be fun, though...she couldn't decide if she really was in the mood to play or just beat something into the ground. It hadn't been the best of days for her. She was still hungry so she'd need to go hunting some more. She could wait until night and have the better advantage. AH, so many options!

Stopping after her fourth circle, Koka grinned. Malciousness seemed to ooze from her expression and she deliberately made a show of crouching down, preparing to pounce. Muscles were twitching, ready to explode forward. Whatever was going to transpire would, one way or another, make Koka feel better about the world...the now. A little sport, whether it was fair or not always put her in a good mood.

Now to see how the little leopard would react. Would it be a game of chase or would he do something to make this game a bit more interesting?

Yabez was confused. A tiny part of his rain was screaming at him, but he was surprisingly slow to pick up on the Very Bad Signs. When he realised that she was probably not joking around, and that this lioness might actually be trying to pick a fight. Oh s**t. He had not planned to fight anything bigger than a hare today, and while he didn't quite get how outmatched he was, he did understand that it would not be a 'fun' fight. She was a large lioness and older than him.

"Are you sure you want to do this," he said, in a voice that was way to high pitched to sound intimidating. "I don't like to fight with girls."

He cringed inwardly, wondering if he had just made everything worse.

If you feel like finishing this... Here's his healed up and scarred version. (As an adult, after this fight...)

Licking her Maw, Koka grinned maliciously. Oh what fun! "Oh, I am quite sure."

Tensed muscles coiled and sprung forward and the lioness was after the little runt of a feline within seconds. A blur of black and red, Koka growled as she bolted forward. The dry earth beneath her created wonderful traction as her claw dug into it, leaving marks in her wake. Koka's violet eyes never left her prey of choice. She wad determined to make sure that he entertained her for at least a little while. Oh yes, she wasn't going to let this one squirm away on her again!

Instead of charging head on, Koka angled herself to sweep past the young leopard, only to cut a sharp corner to come from behind. Claws out, she raked her paw forward to knock his back paws out from under him while her other paw moved forward to rake her paws on his left side.

Yabez swallowed, but it did nothing to help the dryness of his mouth. When the huge lioness charged, he almost tripped over his own paws in order to get out of her way. For a few (very rapid, very panicked) heartbeats he thought he'd managed to outwit her and dodge the attack. A painful moment later he understood that she'd streaked past him on purpose in order to attack from behind. He scrambled to his feet and desperately tried to run away, but his movements seemed so slow compared to those of the homicidal lioness.

The little leopard hadn't even realized he was bleeding yet.

Ha! He certainly was a wriggly little thing, that was for certain. Koka licked her maw as she stood there watching the little leopard try to scamper off. Chuckling to herself she loped after him at first, watching with glee as he continued to run away from her, the whole while his fur had begun to show the small taint of red from her claws.

Not quite ready to give up her games yet, Koka changed pace. Her paws moved quickly over the earth as she picked up speed. Wanting him to see her coming, she circled around the little feline until she was coming at him head on. Curious to see what he'd do, she didn't change direction or slow her pace. She didn't even raise her paw as she grew near him. Would he freeze in fear and let her trample him or dodge? If he dodged, kudos to him. He'd survive this little test. If he let himself get trampled...well...it was likely he'd live, she wasn't that heavy of a lion, but he'd certainly be baring scars from it if he managed to survive this encounter. After all, Koka's claws were sharp dagger and with each step she took at this speed they dug hard into the ground.

Even over the loud thumping of his heart and his ragged breath he could hear that the lioness was following. He willed his legs to move faster, but it still felt as if he was running too slowly, and he started to wonder why she hadn't caught him yet. A few heartbeats later he understood why. She was carelessly wasting energy by taking the long way around and then rushing at him. Playing with him.

The whites of Jabez eyes were showing, and he was breathing heavily from fear and from running as fast as he could. He threw himself to the side, trying to avoid a head on collision. He could feel her streaking past, and yowled as she stepped on his tail. Getting to his feet again was the hardest thing he'd ever done, but he was too scared to stay still. He needed to get away from her. Perhaps he was just making her little game all the more fun by running around like a panicked rodent, but the leopard wasn't sure she wouldn't try eating him or something if he tried to feign death.

Huh...he dodged most of the attack. Not bad for a runt. But...unfortunately for the little leopard, Koka was starting to grow bored.

The little leopard had done a wonderful job in keeping her entertained for a while. In fact, he kept her so entertained she had decided to let him live. Such a kind soul she was, this she knew. After all, what other lion would torment a cub so much only to let him live? No one of course. They'd have spilt his blood long ago and watched him bleed out to death, but not her, nope. She was a kind soul.

Of a demon.

Deciding that enough was enough, Koka figured it was only right that she leave the cub with some suitable souvenirs.

Koka turned quickly, barely giving the cub any time at all to react to her movements. She rushed him with a snarl and claws ready. She moved with the intent to injure him and was ready to change her direction should he attempt to dodge off again. As she drew near she put on a small burst of speed and swiped her paw towards his sides, looking to rend his flesh even more and add to the blood already soaking his pelt.

Jabez was sure he was going to die, but he wasn't about to go down without a fight. Technically speaking he was down already, but he twisted around and tried to defend himself as best as he could with both teeth and claws. The scent of blood was heavy in the air, and most - if not all of it - was his own. He wasn't sure if he was doing any damage at all, but he couldn't just lie there and take it so he kept clawing and kicking, trying to ignore the pain when his right paw was sliced open by her sharp claws.

He hissed, wondering if she was just planning to shred him to bits or if she'd move in for the kill soon. Those teeth looked awfully large from up close.

Koka grinned she she felt her claws dig in. Happy with her final charge the lioness slowed her pace and glanced back at the leopard. She noted where her strikes had hit. The last one must have been his paw. He'd be limping from that one for awhile.

Flicking the tip of her tail a few times she did debate just finishing the leopard cub off but decided against it. She had already made her decision on that part and wasn't going to change it now. Instead she looked away from him and slowly padded off finally done with her toy. If she ever wanted to play again she knew the general area to find him, and his scent.
