It wasn't really all that hard to find Canicus, if one knew him. Or rather, knew of him, because it wasn't like he was a social lion to begin with. He spent most of his days at the sparring pits, as long as he didn't have other duties to perform. The sparring pits, however, had remained his favorite place even since young. Even while the drought was going on he tried to find some time and a willing partner, dueling always relieved some stress.
But since the last time he'd seen that dark little lioness, the only time he'd ever lost his temper like that, he hadn't been able to keep his stress completely gone. He also hadn't been able to sit and properly talk with his sister, which was frustrating. But today as he approached the pits he noticed almost every one of the lions was already paired up with another. He walked slowly so he could take in a few of the more interesting spars, his nose twitching. There was something familiar about the scent in the area... but what?
As he slowly sat to wait his turn he realized that scent. He looked around slowly, as though he wasn't actually seeking something or someone out. But she wasn't around at all... disturbed sand. His gaze followed it up the dune before his blue eyes landed on her dark form. Clearly attempting to avoid notice... he tore his gaze away and trained it back on the dunes. He couldn't help but feel a pang of hurt... well, she'd been the one that had said she wished she never knew him. So he shouldn't approach her, right?
He glanced once more toward the dune before rising and shaking off. Maybe today was not the best day for a duel.

Canicus took a rather generous step to the side as he heard the excuse me, in a voice that definitely belonged to the... yep. There she was, making her way past time. Arg, what the hell was with her? One minute hiding and the next minute... sitting in a ring by herself and looking a little... a little sad actually. Not like she looked depressed or anything... he just wondered if he looked equally as awkward when he sat in the pits waiting for a partner, not talking to anyone.
He glanced around before he cleared his throat, his paws shifting and moving his large frame directly for her. He couldn't help himself, as much stress as this female had caused him... well, he was drawn to her! "You... looking for a sparring partner?" He said slowly, unsure if she was going to tell him to get lost or not. Actually, even asking her felt a little awkward. "You seem to be an unfamiliar face. New here?" And now he felt like an even bigger idiot... was it okay to pretend like they were just meeting for the first time? Was he supposed to just avoid her like she wanted? "I'm Canicus, son of Chanda and Aibisho." This all felt... much too formal for his tastes, but what else was there to do about it?

Bodair... Bodair. It reminded him first of his grandfather, but just vaguely. It was a very nice name, and he was tempted to say it out loud. He had no reason to really, though. He was quite relieved she was playing along with his choice to start anew with the female. He did not circle her this time, but his stance was poised to strike at any moment. He was watching her for a bit, it'd been a long time since they'd last sparred, after all. Had she been practicing? Of course she had... it was mad for any firekin to be in the lands this long and not have trained at least every other day!
At her question he just smiled slowly, head tilting just slightly. "Of course..." He answered calmly. What other answer was there? A firekin who despised his homeland? Unheard of. At least, Canicus was sure they'd be thrown from the lands or asked to leave or... why would anyone live anywhere else? "Ready yourself!" He growled out, but it was not threatening. He was simply letting himself get into the duel.
He lunged forward, paw swiping out to knock her front legs out from under her, nipping her ear as he went. He wasn't going to hold back this time, he wanted to see her abilities!

Ah, she was enjoying this. Good. She seemed to be more enthusiastic about this duel than she had been in the past, and he decided he wouldn't try and anger her like he'd previously done. They had, after all, 'just met'. After she maneuvered herself away he stood ready, on the defensive side of things. When she moved toward him he realized she was surprisingly fast, and instead of pushing into him she did something unexpected! She'd moved under him! His fur stood on end as he jumped, causing him to become off guard.
She lunged and he felt his weight shift and gravity took over, and suddenly she was kneading at his chest again. He felt his blood warm slightly, something about the action felt awkward to Canicus, slightly embarrassing and certainly flirtatious. It wasn't a bad feeling exactly... He smirked at her statement and shifted, kicking out with his hind paws and sending her off of him.
He twisted over and lunged, paw swiping out to hit her in the face. He did not use his claws however, and did not agree with those lions who did use their claws in a sparring match. Unless that sort of thing was agreed upon from the beginning, anyhow. "Barely." He stated, backing up with a smirk as he shifted, moving around her.

He chuckled briefly at her reaction, even though he was slightly worried. He hadn't hit her that hard, had he? No matter, she was fine. Canicus barely ever left his opponents scarred or bleeding from a sparring match, he was sure that sort of match would be a rare one indeed.
He didn't respond to her words, he wanted her focused back on the duel and not on the conversation. Maybe they could speak after... if he managed not to get her pissed off. He lunged forward again, aiming his shoulder into her side, which would cause her to get knocked down. He was doing damn well in this duel, or so he thought. "How about we make this interesting.." He said slowly, unable to help himself. His grin was teasing and playful at the same time, as he implied turning the outcome of the duel into a bet. He hoped it was not a mistake to do so!

He yelped very slightly as he felt her paw whack across his backside, his eyes wide. That certainly was one way to win a duel, wasn't it? Not that she'd won yet, not that he'd let her! He spun about, paw lashing out but she was too quick and had dodged backwards. His brows raised at her insistence for him to hurry up.
"Ah, impatient I see." He quipped, though he'd noticed that before she was just as impatient for him to speak. As though he was supposed to read her mind or something... and when he might get annoyed at something like that some other time, he was sort of amused by it right now. "Definitely no second thoughts. Like you could win against me." He rolled his eyes and grinned, but she had won against him in the past.
"Wouldn't you care for a little bet? Terms are... if you win you can claim any one thing of me or from me. And if I win I can do the same with you." Always the same terms, right?

He smirked a little and bowed back to her when the terms were agreed upon, bracing himself for her attack. He had not expected her to trip over herself though, and he let out a yowl as her claws dug into his shoulder as she fell. He panted slightly, uncomfortable as the shoulder instantly felt like it was burning. But he was shocked at the look on her face, as though she was feeling guilty! He'd have to let her know it was okay... it wasn't too bad of a wound. He could feel blood, sure, but that would heal up quickly with only a small scar as a reminder.
"Oh, someone afraid of blood?" He teased lightly, unsure if he should or not but wanting to make the situation less serious. He lunged towards her left side, aiming for her paws but she instinctively dodged, something she was very good at.
