Anezka sighed as she rubbed her back against the tree, a clump of mint clenched between her back teeth. She'd been chewing on it for some time but had managed to maintain a fairly clear head. Her mother had always been a fan, but younger lioness wasn't sure she enjoyed the fuzzy feeling the herb gave in large quantities. It was nice to take the edge of though, she could admit. Apprenticing to become a law speaker was much more difficult than she had first anticipated. There were the histories of course, those she enjoyed. Learning about great battles and the spoils of war enthralled her, and she could almost hear the voices of the last great heroes ringing in her mind. But the lineages, oh the lineages. Scores upon scores of Ulfric son of Godfrid. She could hardly contain her yawns while the elders recited them for hours on end. But it was one of the hurdles she would have to pass, somehow.

Nyuki had been skimming through an herb patch nearby. It had only been a small while since Brynja had brought the girls into the pride and claimed them as her own, threatening anyone who even questioned the girl's legitimacy to her. As such, Nyuki had not had many lessons aside from pridal customs, so when she stumbled upon the patch of mint that some of the older members liked to chew on to alter their moods she had no idea what she was getting herself into.

It had smelled wonderful, and tasted equally so, but the feeling she got after chewing on even a single leaf of the mint substance had her wanting to cry for her mother and mutter to herself what was happening. Stumbling about the little patch of mint, Nyuki managed to come into Anezka's line of sight, but had not seen the grown lioness herself.

With little cries from her eyes, Nyuki mumbled to herself, "I don't feel so good."

It took a moment for the lioness to notice the cub but when she did, her hackles went up. A feeling akin to fear went through her but she didn't panic. It was stranger, normally she reacted poorly to cubs, but this one seemed to really need help. She could smell the mint, and spit her own out as she got up to move toward her. "Little one, did you eat something you shouldn't have?" she called out as softly as she could manage, "Some of the things around here aren't for little cubs." She'd made that mistake herself as a cub, though her mother hadn't been nearly so kind while she'd been ill from it.

Nyuki jumped slightly when Anezka called out to her an approached. She wasn't used to all these new people, and they were very forward unlike her mother who had been so very timid. Trying to put on a brave face and failing miserably, Nyuki stifled a cry and blubbered a little as she tried to tell the lioness what happened, "There was these green plants and they smelled good so I ate one and now I don't feel good."

Nyuki looked up to Anezka shyly before looking away again. She had a feeling she was in trouble, and being trouble had always been a bad thing with her mother. If it was only Nkem who had seen her be bad, she was ok, but often times it was her father and he was less than nice. She only hoped this lioness would not tell Brynja.

"I don't feel good," She sniffed, trying to spit out the mint leaf she had been chewing on. It was far too chewed and disintegrated to be regurgitated by the young girl.

"Oh little one," she sighed, lifting a paw to touch the cub's back, "How about we go get you some water?" She gestured toward the stream that ran off from the cliffside. It wasn't the first choice, but it would do to clear her senses out. There were some herbs around that would calm her stomach, but she was no priestess. It'd likely do more harm than good if she plucked something. So instead, damage control. "That's mint, it's for grown ups," she added, "It makes your head swim sometimes."

Nyuki nodded to Anezka, though she was hesitant to follow after the older lioness. Brynja seemed very protective of the girls, and Nyuki wasn't sure herself if someone may try to take them. Internally she was coming to terms with her mother's abandonment, even if externally she continued to say that her mother was going to come back soon.

"Y-You won't tell Bry- I mean, uhm. You won't tell my Mom will you?" Nyuki asked, trying to hold back tears and the sick feeling in her stomach from the mint. Her head was starting to feel floaty and she did not like this feeling. She would never touch whatever the minty-leaf plant was again. It tasted good and made her feel so bad.

Dulcea
"Of course not," Anezka laughed, settling down beside the water as she nodded her head toward it, "Rinse your mouth out first then drink some, it'll make you feel better. I was young once too you know, we all do silly things. But make sure you tell her if you start feeling sick again later, so she doesn't worry." That was a reasonable agreement, she guessed. She didn't have any experience with parenting, though she knew she would soon if she continued to enter into a tryst with that reaver fellow, but it seemed there was no harm in letting the cub get away with her mistake. She seemed to have learned from it, after all.

Nyuki nodded slightly to the older lioness, but decided that was not a good idea as she suddenly felt like she was going places when she wasn't. She decided that Anezka was a smart lioness, and could indeed be trusted, especially considering that she just said she wouldn't tell Brynja about her little incident.

"What, uhm... What is that stuff I ate?" Nyuki asked, following Anezka's advice and slowly, but surely, getting to the water indicated and rinsing out her mouth.

The cold feeling ran over her tongue and only felt like ti activated the remaining mint-leaf in the back of her throat, which she promptly spat out because she was afraid she'd get even more sick. She did this process a couple more times, not satisfied until she was certain she could no longer taste the leaf and went to sip at the water slowly. Drinking anything made her stomach feel funny, so she decided to drink very slowly. Maybe than it wouldn't hurt so bad. After awhile she looked back up to Anezka quietly.

"How long did it take you to get big?" Nyuki aksed, cub-like curiosity sparkling in her eyes.

That was an odd question. Anezka pressed her ears down against her head, thinking about it for a moment. "I suppose I don't really know," she answered with a bit of a laugh, "I don't feel much bigger than I was when I was your size, it happens so gradually."

It was a clever question though, she had to admit, this little cub would have an interesting future ahead of her if that was the sort of thing she thought of. And she'd already figured out how bad mint was. "I mean, how long have you been little? It's hard to figure things like that."

Nyuki listened intently at the older lioness replied to her question.

Growing up happens gradually? Nyuki wasn't even sure what gradually meant, but if the lioness didn't feel much bigger than she was her size, it meant she didn't notice it happening. How can you not notice yourself getting bigger?

When Anezka posed her question, Nyuki gave her a furrowed brow and a contemplative look. She knew the answer to this question, because she had kept time of how many times the moon got full since she had been alive. Well, she had been, but than she ran out of paw digits to count on and it was a little hard to count her paw toes.

"I have seen more full moons than I have toes on my front paws," Nyuki said matter-of-factly. She knew this.

"You're a clever little one," Anezka conceded, softening as she let a smile come across her face, "Are you in such a hurry to get big? Life is so much simpler when you're little, you ought to enjoy it." If, like most, this one was to become a reaver she certainly wished her the most enjoyable cubhood one could have. She knew how difficult such a life was, it was one of the reasons she had chosen a different path. She was no coward, but she hoped to live well into wrinkles to be able to share her knowledge with generations.
