It had been a couple of weeks now since he had managed to gain his entry in to the firekin and now that he was reunited with his sisters, and keeping a damn good eye on them, he felt enough at ease that he could do a little wandering around the fiery hot lands. He never went too far though his position as a guard meant that he was quite often on the borders, when he was not working he spent much of his time near the dens or with his sisters. The day had only just started as he wandered past the dens, the sand still cool under his paws and the sun not yet hot on his dark spine. He enjoyed a morning walk, the sand sifting through his toes as he marched along like a black and white bulldozer, slowly shifting the sand as he went with his large dinner plate like paws. Today was like any other day, he would go and do his duty in a couple of hours but until then he could just, wander around enjoying the cooler morning and the feeling of the sand between his toes.

Unlike the big male, Xiāofáng a slender female, did not sink into the sand but padded across the thin backed crust. A small female for a rogue, among the firekin she was petite, but that did not stop her doing her duty with all the fire and dedication of any pride-born lioness. Having gained entry some time ago, just as the water shortage reached critical proportions, the spirited ex-rogue had immediately taken on the role of water seeker, using her extensive knowledge of the desert surrounding the firekin's territory to guide others of the pride to well hidden water holes and springs. But the longer the drought went on, the more her memory was tested as she explored almost-forgotten cubhood haunts for the illusive liquid so necessary to life.
She had spent the hours of dawn out in the barren interior of the desert, skirting the territory where the Nergui were suspected to be, though she never strayed too far into the unknown lands. Still, her search had once again proved fruitless and she had returned to the pride no better off than she had been when she set out.
Huffing softly in frustration she lifted her head, intending to scan the area for landmarks but instead her bright green eyes landed on a large black and white male who seemed to be focused on making a kind of... pathway through the sand.

As he hadn't been born on the sands Xagan still couldn't quite walk on the sand without making a path way, his natural strength though made it fairly easy for him to surge through the build up at his paws. His sisters had told him to splay out his toes, to spread his weight out to walk easier on the sands. Easier wasn't his idea of fun he liked to bulldoze, he liked to take the hard way and show his strength. Besides it was something to do to build his muscle, shifting sand on his morning walk.
The dark maned male stopped mid step and turned his gaze on the small lioness. He didn't know her, so he turned to his old fail safe, cocky grin and words that weren't really complimentary. "Hey there shorty, you tired?" He chuckles laying his paw back down and waiting patiently for the blue eyed lioness to approach.

Well.. it seemed he had spotted her too, for he turned and looked directly at her, or so it seemed. Her suspicions were proved correct when he called out to her.
'Shorty'...? Well now...
Arching a brow she raked her green gaze up and down the male, lip curling upwards in a smirk. "I'm not the one making a highway across the desert..." She replied, though never the less she padded towards him, her own paw prints barely visible in the sand behind her as the hot desert breeze swept across the particles, almost erasing her trail. Arriving in front of him she had to tip her head back to meet his gaze, but her own expression was fearless, even slightly amused as she returned his cocky grin with her own amused smirk. "Having trouble getting through all this sand, big guy?" She quipped back at him, deliberately lowering her gaze and staring at his huge paws to make her point.

The big dark male chuckles a rough throaty growl of a chuckle and winks, a roguish grin forming on his maw. "I like to leave a trail, lets people know I have been through here." He chuckles "Unfortunately for you shorty, your trail has already gone, good job you're still in my line of site though, I think a wam breeze may bury you all together, least if I can see you I can dig you out." he winks, that roguish grin never leaving his maw.
He wasn't one to cow tow to females but despite his cocky nature he liked girls, and his sisters would kick his a** if he messed up being in the firekin for them. He hated to admit that, but they would. Still that didn't mean he couldn't lower his head, just a little, so she didn't have to crane her neck.
"You need a shield Smidge? Nothin' can blow me over." He gives a quiet chuckle, his deep blue eyes fixed firmly on hers.

Resisting the urge to roll her eyes at him she snorted. "Uh hu.. I just bet you do." She eyed the deep tracks he had left behind him for a moment. "You sure that isn't so you can find your way back?" She smirked in return, not at all phased by his teasing, nor apparently was she taken in by his roguish charm, though her bright green eyes did sparkle in amusement.
This time she did roll her eyes at his quip, eyeing his large body with a smirk. "Not for the wind, but you would make a great moving shade. After all there is enough of you." She grinned right back at him, meeting his intent gaze with her own fearlessly. Some might have said she was a little sharp tongued, but in her opinion if a male took himself too seriously, then she wouldn't want to hang around him anyway. She was who she was and she wasn't going to change or start making apologies for that, not now and likely not ever.

The dark male chuckles quietly "Well tiny toes if you can keep a secret it's partly so I can find my way home. some of these dunes they look the same." He smiles a very toothy silly grin, he could take a joke at his own expense, the truth was he just liked t shift the sand about it made him feel like he was in charge of the hot dry land that was his home.
"Well shorty if you need a moving tree I am sure I can oblige." He wriggles his eye brows in a very foolish manner, he was glad she didn't mind his little stabs. "You know, if you wish me to continue calling you shorty thats just fine by me, but if you have a name under those raised eye brows, about now would be a good time to tell me it."

Xiāofáng simply couldn't help but laugh at his words, the sound was warm and rich, a good laugh. "Well, mister.. I certainly have never been called quite so many things in so short a space of time. But my real name is Xiāofáng." Still grinning she studied him, curiosity and a spark of interest lighting her green eyes.
"And what about yourself big guy? Though I suppose I could call you 'Tree' if you really wish." She chuckled again and padded up closer, fitting herself at his side and indeed, she was almost covered by the larger male's shadow, though as the sun climbed higher she knew it wouldn't last. Smirking, amused at the encounter, she grinned up at him. "At the very least I can use that pathway your making, so thoughtful of you." Her grin was cheeky and her eyes playful.

Th big male raised a brow "I think I prefer Shorty." He winks playfully, looking down at the little lioness as she pulled in closer using his long dark shadow as a sun shade across her back.
"My name is Xagan, though you can call me the king of all woody trees, if thats what floats your boat my petite absorber of shadow." He lets a little quirk lift his lips, turning his head slightly so he could keep his gaze on her. "I'm sure your fur looks very dazzling in the sunlight, seems a shame to dull it beneath a tree-ey shade." He chuckles. "Feel free to follow my path lady it will lead you to my den." He wriggles his eye brows again, his roguish grin plastering across his maw.
"I'd certainly like to see you in the sunlight I'm sure your fur looks dazzling when the sun is at it's peak. He lifts a paw and flicks the sand from his dish plate like toes. "I'm just on my morning jaunt is you want to join me."

She snorted at his comment, lifting her chin in the air. "Well, you might prefer it but I could make you match it." She grinned wickedly at him, as they both knew she would never best him in a straight up fight, at least not if she played fair.
Dropping the cheek she smiled at him. "Xagan, well, it is very nice to make your acquaintance." Giggling at his quip she shook her head. Never before had she had such a bizarre conversation with a lion she had just met, or any lion for that matter. The firekin tended to be mostly stern and serious, at least those she had observed so far had seemed so.
"Im not sure you really look like a tree enough to be called king of them. You are kinda too white, unless you were a lightening-blasted tree, but that is a bit too much of a mouthful, so I will just stick to Xagan, if that's alright with you." Laughing once again at his strange pick-up line she smirked up at him. "Keep going, big boy.. flattery will get you everywhere. Or at least part way across the desert." Still giggling she started forwards, only stopping after a few paces to look back at him expectantly. "Well.. are you coming then?" Smiling she flicked her tail tip against the thick fur of his chest playfully.

The big male chuckled and flickered his long thick tail appreciatively. He was very much enjoying this conversation, she was as quick to respond to his flirts and jibes as he was to give them out. He had a feeling they were a match for one another and had very little doubt that if she chose too she would soon kick his butt across the sand, not that he would admit that.
Putting up a paw defensively the black maned lion looked mockingly frightened "I fear I'd get buried in the sand by you shorty, I'll try not to anger you." He drops his mock fearful look and smiles that roguish grin.
"I'm right behind you tidge." He chuckles nipping rather playfully at her tail he follows her lifting his paws so that he was no longer carving a path through the sand. He had a feeling he would be following her path for a while and leaving a trail just wouldn't be practical.
